Is Online Shopping Better Than Traditional Ways?

Every human being knows how to buy things through traditional ways. By walking from shop to shop, comparing, touching, everyone can have a decision for what to buy. However, now, a new way of buying things-----online shopping------ becomes increasingly popular. Just by scanning pictures which describe the items on the computer screen, one can decide what to buy. And it seems that online shopping has surpassed the traditional ways of buying things. Students, middle-aged people, even some old people, begin to be hooked on online shopping. But personally speaking, I think it is never better than traditional ways of buying things.

Seeing is believing. Before we truly see the real item in front of us, we can never assure that what we buy is worth its value. Some merchants just beautify their pictures in order to attract buyers’ attention and lure them. But it always turns out a big difference between the real item and the picture on the computer screen. Both the quality and appearance can not be guaranteed. One of my best friends bought a pair of so-called leather shoes, but only after several days’ wearing, it wore out, which only means a loss of money.

Security is above everything while online shopping is a way to leak out one’s important information. Both consumers and merchants are at high risk. For one thing, hackers might break into a merchant’s website and steal names, addresses and credit card numbers. For another, consumers are faced with the danger of phishing, where they are fooled into thinking they are

dealing with a reputable retailer, when they have actually been manipulated into feeding private information to a system operated by a malicious party①. It is not uncommon to hear that someone’s credit card information is stolen by others and the money in his credit card is totally used out while no one is able to find out who did it.

Of course, one may argue that online shopping is more convenient. Without walking, going outside, just sitting in front of the computer, one can buy what they want. But have you taken into consideration the time you spend hiding behind? Fake things will result in dissatisfaction, which will cause one to return back the good to the merchants. To get it prepared for mailing and to send it back will cost a lot of time. Under this condition. what one gets is nothing but a waste of time. What’s more, with more and more people shopping online but a less developed transporting service, one may wait for over a week when his good finally arrives, which will make what seems convenient actually inconvenient.

No one would like to get fakes goods and suffer a loss of money. No one would like to be put in a situation without security. No one would like to make a choice of inconvenience. So, never will online shopping prevail over traditional ways of buying things and it is wiser for everyone to choose the latter.
