浙江绍兴一中学年高二上期中考试英语试卷解析版

浙江绍兴一中2016-2017学年高二上期中考试英语试卷(解析版)一、阅读理解1、阅读理解According to body language expert Robert Phipps, the way people sleep at night actually determines a lot about the type of personality they have. Phipps has identified four sleeping positions that affect personality.Phipps found that worriers, those who stress the most, tend to sleep in the fetal (胎儿的) position. He found that this is the most common bedtime position, with nearly 58 percent of people sleeping on their side with knees up and head down. The more we curl up (蜷曲), the more comfort we are seeking, according to Phipps. The second most common position is the log. Sleeping with a straight body, with arms at each side, as if they are standing guard at Buckingham Palace, indicates stubbornness, and these people (the 28 percent who sleep this way) often wake up stiffer than when they went to sleep.“The longer you sleep like this, the more rigid your thinking is and you can become inflexible, which means you make things harder for yourself,” according to Phipps.Yearner (向往) sleepers are next on the list. About 25 percent of people sleep in this style—on their side with arms stretched out in front, looking as if they are either chasing a dream or perhaps being chased themselves. Yearners are typically their own worst critics, always expecting the best results, explained Phipps. These people often wake up refreshed and eager to face the challenges of the day ahead.Perhaps the most peculiar (奇怪的) of sleep styles is the freefaller position. This sleep style makes up 17 percent of the population. They sleep face down with arms stretched out. These people, according to Phipps, feel like they have little control over their life. Not only is this the strangest of sleep styles, but also the least comfortable, and people may wake up feeling tired and have no energy.Inconclusion, Phipps has only one more thing to add: “A good night's sleep set you up for the following day and our sleeping positions can determine how we feel when we wake.”根据短文内容,选择最佳答案,并将选定答案的字母标号填在题前括号内。

AAs the pace of life continues to increase, we are fast losing the art of relaxation. Once you are in the habit of rushing through lift, being on the go from morning till night, it is hard to slow down. But relaxation is essential for a healthy mind and body.Stress is a natural part of everyday life and there is no way to avoid it. In fact, it is not the bad thing it is often supposed to be. A certain amount of stress is vital to provide motivation and give purpose to life. It is only when the stress gets out of control that it can lead to poor performance and ill health. The amount of stress a person can withstand depends very much on the individual. Some people are not afraid of stress, and such characters are obviously prime material for managerial responsibilities. Others lose heart at the first sign of unusual difficulties. When exposed to stress, in whatever form, we react both chemically and physically. In fact we make choice between "fight" or "flight" and in more primitive days the choice made the difference between life or death. The crises we meet today are unlikely to be so extreme, but however little the stress, it involves the same response. It is when such a reaction lasts long, through continued exposure to stress, that health becomes endangered. Such serious conditions as high blood pressure and heart disease have established links with stress. Since we cannot remove stress from our lives (it would be unwise to do so even if we could), we need to find ways to deal with it.21. People are finding less and less time for relaxing themselves because_____.A. they regard working as their greatest enjoymentB. they believe that work is superior to relaxationC. they are travelling fast all the timeD. they are becoming busier with their work than ever before22. Which of the following statements is true according to the passage?A. We can find quite a few ways to avoid stressB. Stress is always harmful to people’s healthC. It is easy to change the habit of keeping oneself busy with work.D. Different people can withstand different amounts of stress23. In the last sentence of the passage, "do so " refers to ______.A. expose ourselves to stressB. find ways to deal with stressC. remove stress from our livesD. established links between diseases and stress24. According to the author, the right attitude toward stress is _______.A. to avoid itB. to try to cope with itC. to regard it as a vital motivationD.to find some relaxationBNEW YORK: New York on Thursday, 13 Sept, became the first city in the United States to enforce a limited ban on super-sized soda drinks blamed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg for fueling a national obesity crisis. The Board of Health's formal approval of the ban---proposed by Bloomberg and praised by health campaigners, but hotly opposed by soft drinks manufacturers—was not considered a surprise. The city health commissioner, Thomas Farley, called the vote "historic".However, Liz Berman, president of Continental Food and Beverage and head of the New Yorkers for Beverage Choices lobby group, described the "discriminatory ban" as a "fix"."It's sad that the board wants to limit our choices. We are smart enough to make our own decisions about what to eat and drink." she said in a statement. However, there is nothing to stop people from buying as much soda as they like by refilling smaller containers. Also, the ban does not extend to drinks sold in supermarkets or any dairy or fruit drinks, many of which also contain huge quantities of sugar.Diet and alcoholic drinks are also exempted. The measure, which could face legal challenges from the soft drinks industry, takes effect in six months.According to official statistics, some 6,000 people in New York die each year from obesity-linked problems. One in eight adult New Yorkers has diabetes, which can be worsened bysugar consumption.Boosting the mayor, the newly-built basketball stadium for the Brooklyn Nets announced it will immediately adopt the rules, well ahead of the March 12 deadline. The measure generated a stormy debate, including 38,000 comments written to the Board of Health. Polls showed a majority of people opposed the ban.25. Why does New York enforce the limited ban on super-sized soda drinks?A. Because it is believed that soda drinks are of harm to health.B. Because it is believed that soda drinks cause the nation overweight.C. Because too many people don't like drinking soda drinks.D. Because super-sized soda drinks block the sugar consumption.26. What can we infer from the passage about Liz Berman?A. She is in charge of the production of soda drinks all over the country.B. She is very angry that the city government limits what to eat and drink.C. She takes the limited ban on super-sized soda drinks as an unfair one.D. She is smart enough to know what she eats or drinks.27. The underlined word "exempted" means ________ in the 7th paragraph.A. relievedB. unfairC. upsetD. limited28. When will the limited ban be carried out according to the passage?A. This September.B. This November.C. The coming January.D. The coming March.CAustralia is the largest island in the world. We had a wonderful time. Perth is famous for its beautiful wild flowers. In spring every year Perth has the wild flowers' exhibition. After visiting Perth, we spent a day in the countryside. We sat downand had a rest near a path at the foot of a hill. It was quiet and we enjoyed ourselves.Suddenly we heard bells ringing at the top of the hill. What we saw made us pick up all our things and run back to the car as quickly as we could. If you go to the countryside in Australia, you will see a large number of white sheep.DI came to study in the United States a year ago. Yet I did not know the real American society until I was hurt in a car accident because after the accident I had to see a doctor and go to court. After the accident, my roommate called a doctor for me. I was very grateful and decided to repay him one day. But the next day, he asked me to pay him $200 for what he had done. I was amazed. He had good reason to charge me, he said. And if I wanted to collect money from the person who was responsib le for my accident, I’d have to have a good lawyer. And only a good doctor can help me get a good lawyer. Now that he had helped me find a good doctor, it was only fair that I should pay him. But every day I went to see the doctor, I had to wait about 50 minutes. He would see two or three patients at the same time, and often stop treating one so as to see another. Yet he charged me $115 each time. The final examination report consisted of ten lines, and it cost me $215. My lawyer was all smiles the first time we met. But after that he avoided seeing me at all. He knew very well the other party was responsible for the accident, yet he hardly did anything. He simply waited to collect his money. He was so irresponsible that I decided torefuse his help. And he made me pay him $770.Now I had to act as my own lawyer. Due to my inexperience, I told the insurance company the date I was leaving America. Knowing that, they played for time and I left without getting a cent.My experiences taught me two things about America: firstly, in a country like America money is everything. 绍兴县2016-2017学年高二英语上学期期中试卷(含解析)

2016-2017学年高二上期中考试英语试卷(解析版)一、阅读理解1、阅读理解According to body language expert Robert Phipps, the way people sleep at night actually determines a lot about the type of personality they have。

Phipps has identified four sleeping positions that affect personality。

Phipps found that worriers, those who stress the most, tend to sleep in the fetal (胎儿的) position. He found that this is the most common bedtime position, with nearly 58 percent of people sleeping on their side with knees up and head down。

The more we curl up (蜷曲), the more comfort we are seeking, according to Phipps。

The second most common position is the log。

Sleeping with a straight body, with arms at each side, as if they are standing guard at Buckingham Palace, indicates stubbornness, and these people (the 28 percent who sleep this way) often wake up stiffer than when they went to sleep。

About 25 percent of people sleepin this style—on their side with arms stretched out in front, looking as if theyare either chasing a dream or perhaps being chased themselves. Yearners are typicallytheir own worst critics, always expecting the best results, explained Phipps. Thesepeople often wake up refreshed and eager to face the challenges of the day ahead.Perhaps the most peculiar (奇怪的) of sleep styles is the freefaller position. This sleep style makes up 17 percent of the population. They sleep face down witharms stretched out. These people, according to Phipps, feel like they have littlecontrol over their life. Not only is this the strangest of sleep styles, but alsothe least comfortable, and people may wake up feeling tired and have no energy.Inconclusion, Phipps has only one more thing to add: “A good night's sleepset you up for the following day and our sleeping positions can determine how wefeel when we wake.”根据短文内容,选择最佳答案,并将选定答案的字母标号填在题前括号内。

I used to take long walks along the water. The food in town was wonderful and the people were very friendly. The area was very quiet and peaceful, and fairly deserted. The last evening of our vacation, however, we all heard strange footsteps following closely behind us as we were walking up to our room in the holiday centre. We turned around and noticed a fairly young man moving very rapidly across the beach and getting closer to us. He was tall and wore a baseball cap. We couldn't see his face and he was approaching us very rapidly. The man's actions made my dad very nervous. Dad warned us that we'd better try to make it to our hotel room as quickly as possible. I didn't like my dad's voice; I could hear fear in it. It was late and we were all alone. We didn't have any cell phones on us. I never saw Dad as worried as he was then and I knew that something was terribly wrong. The sense of fear started to overwhelm Mom and me. We had had such a good time in town. Now, the night was rapidly turning into a dangerous situation. We could hear the man's footsteps getting closer. Dad's face was almost pale. The so-called intruder (侵入者) had moved nearer and nearer when all of a sudden, the nearby vending (自动贩卖) machine started going crazy and spitting out cans of soda! The noise actually scared the intruder and he ran out of sight. My parents were shaking, but we all turned around to see who had put money into the vending machine downstairs, and actually saved us, but no one was around at all. Not a soul. It's one vacation I will never forget.根据短文内容,选择最佳答案,并将选定答案的字母标号填在题前括号内。

It can reveal (揭示) laws of nature, cure diseases, make bombs, and help bridges to stand up. Indeed science is so good at what it does that there's always a temptation (诱惑) to drag it into problems where it may not be helpful. David Brooks, author of The Social Animal, The Hidden Sources of Love, Character, and Achievement, appears to be the latest in a long line of writers who have failed to resist the temptation.Brooks gained fame for several books. His latest book The Social Animal, however, is more ambitious and serious than his earlier books. It is an attempt todeal with a set of weighty topics. The book focuses on big questions: What has science revealed about human nature? What are the sources of character? And why are somepeople happy and successful while others aren't?To answer these questions, Brooks surveys a wide range of subjects. Becauseof this, you might expect the book to cover a variety of facts. But Brooks has structured his book in an unusual, and perhaps unfortunate way. Instead of introducing scientific theories, he tells a story, within which he tries to makehis points, perhaps in order to keep the reader's attention. So as Harold and Erica, the hero and heroine in his story, live through childhood, we hear about the scienceof child development and as they begin to date we hear about the theory of sexual attraction. Brooks carries this through to the death of one of his characters. On the whole, Brooks's story is acceptable if uninspired. As one would expect, his writing is mostly clear and, to be fair, some chapters stand out above the rest.I enjoyed, for instance, the chapter in which Harold discovers how to think on hisown. While Harold and Erica are certainly not strong characters, the more serious problems with The Social Animal lie elsewhere. These problems partly involveBrooks's attempt to translate his tale into science.根据短文内容,选择最佳答案,并将选定答案的字母标号填在题前括号内。
