This year marks the 100th anniversary of Leo Tolstoy's death. He is considered by
many to be one of the greatest novelists of all time. Much of the west is marking the anniversary with new translations of the author's works, including War and Peace. Movies are being released, including a black-and-white documentary and a feature film. In short, everyone is celebrating. Everyone, that is, except for people in Tolstoy's home country, Russia.
The English newspaper the Guardian reports that the Russian government has scheduled nothing for November, the official anniversary of Tolstoy's death. The quiet is amazing, considering the importance of this man's contribution to global culture.
“Across the whole world there is a huge Tolstoy boom,” Andrei Deryabin, co-producer of a new film about the author's final days titled The Last Station, told the Guardian. "He's esteemed(尊敬)everywhere apart from here (in Russia).”
Experts explain the government's silence in various ways. Some refer to Tolstoy's disagreement with state-backed religion. Tolstoy's Christian views often fell out with those of the Roman Catholic church.
His great-great grandson, Vladimir Ilyich Tolstoy, thinks Russia's cool attitude has more to do with history and the author's positive worldview, After all, the last century was a difficult one for the country's people. The darker writings of Fyodor Dostoevsky,he says, better fit the national character. Tolstoy hopes that as Russians grow more optimistic they will rediscover one of their own national treasures.
“Tolstoy gives positive answers to the questions mankind is asking," he told the Guardian. "In this sense he gives more hope.
I hope the 21st century is Tolstoyan."
51. The general idea of the first paragraph is that______.
A. Tolstoy is a greatest novelist of all the time
B. Tolstoy is now more an idol than a national character
C. Tolstoy has been forgotten by Russian people
D. Tolstoy is being remembered in most western countries
52. We can infer from the article that______ .
A. experts hold the view that Russian people think little of Tolstoy
B. western people believe Tolstoy provides good solutions to Today's issues
C. it is tough for us to remain positive in hard economic times
D. Tolstoy's worldview didn't suit the Russians in the last century
53. The underlined phrase “fell out with" in the 4th paragraph is probably closest in meaning to“______ ”
A. be in conflict with
B. be similar to
C. be in harmony with
D. stand out
54. According to Vladimir Ilyich Tolstoy, the Russian government didn't arrange activities to celebrate the anniversary______ .
A. because of Tolstoy's disagreement of state-backed religion
B. because of Tolstoy's values and historical factors
C. because Fyodor Dostoevsky gives more hope to Russia
D. because Russians have become more optimistic

Bright red post boxes, the Queen and queuing—what do they all have in common? They are all part and parcel(重要部分)of British life. Or so I thought.
However, the ability to queue for long periods of time, once believed to be a traditional characteristic of the British, is no longer tolerated by people in the UK, according to a survey done for British bank Barclays.
Once upon a time, queuing was seen as normal. During the Second World War, everyone had to queue up to receive their daily supply of foods. In fact,if you didn't stand up and wait in line with all the others, it was seen as uncivilized.
The famous English double-decker buses, with only one entrance, might also help explain why queuing was seen as a part of life. Almost always, there is a queue to
get on.
But perhaps the British are tired of being pushed past by the Spanish, the Italians or the French as they queue up to get a table at a restaurant. The people of these other European countries have more than one entrance to their buses, which could explain their more relaxed attitude to the queue.
Two minutes is now the longest time most British people are prepared to stand and wait. But could it be that the Internet, which allows us to carry out tasks quickly, is the main reason why British people are no longer prepared to queue?
“Used to buying without delay, customers are even abandoning purchases rather than wait their turn," says Stuart Neal of Barclaycard. “Shoppers are also less likely to queue for long if the item they are buying is of low value."
Perhaps I will have to replace "queuing" with "impatience" in my list of things
I associate with the British.
55. What can we learn about the tradition of queuing in Britain from the article?
A. It was once considered a symbol of a civilized behavior among the British.
B. It is what makes Britain different from other European countries.
C. It was a product of the slow pace of life in old times.
D. It is a long time tradition as old as the Queen.
56. According to the article, the British gradually stopped queuing partly because______.
A. they prefer shopping online to going to the shops
B. they follow the example of foreigners in Britain
C. the use of the Internet has changed their way of life
D. British buses now have more than one entrance
57. According to the article, the British are less likely to queue for long when they wait to______
A. get a table in a restaurant
B. buy apples in a greengrocer's
C. get on double-decker buses
D. pay for low cost shopping
58. What is the author's main aim in this article?
A. To list some things that she associates with the British.
B. To introduce the change in queuing in Britain.
C. To express her approval of changes in the British way of life.
D. To complain about the British losing patience.

Two Chinese farmers who became an overnight sensation(轰动)when their heart-rending version of a famous pop song appeared on the Internet took to the stage in front of thousands of fans in Shanghai last Saturday.
Wang Xu, 44,and Liu Gang, 29, sang “In the Spring" alongside the song's star composer Wang Feng, in front of about 80,000 people at the Shanghai Stadium.
The audience buzzed with excitement and let out deafening cheers, the moment as they were introduced on the stage and then when Liu started the first sentence of their parts of the song.
The two migrant workers became stars after singing the tearjerker(催⼈泪下的)song during an evening drinking session in a 6-square-meter rented room in a late August evening. A friend recorded the performance on a cell phone and posted it on the Internet.
“If someday I am dead, please bury me in the spring," they sing. Wang's penetrating chorus, delivered with his eyes closed, has moved thousands to tears.
Wang and Liu consider the song a true portrait of lower-class groups like themselves. "With no credit card, no girlfriend, or a home with hot water, but only a guitar, I am singing happily, on streets, under bridges or in wild country, though nobody pays attention to the music," they sing.
To support his wife and two sons, Wang came to Beijing in 2000 from the countryside and has worked as a boiler man, and street peddler, before becoming a medical warehouse keeper, with a monthly pay of around 1,500 yuan. Little is left after he pays 600 yuan for rent and buys food.
Liu came to Beijing in 2002. “I wanted to try my luck in the big city,,,he said. He had worked as a guard, roadside peddler, and porter, but never had a stable job. Street performing was his main income, even after he married and became a father three years ago.
Wang and Liu are still uncertain where their fame will lead. Wang has started learning to use a computer. They even have a microblog(微博)account to communicate with fans.

It was a hot summer day. My dad and I were getting ready to go out for a ride on the boat with my friend Katie and the dog when the phone call came, the call that made that bright, beautiful day a cold, dark, gloomy one.
I had just put on my suit, shorts, and tank top, and packed my bag with sunscreen and everything else I would need for the day. I ran into my parents' room to find Dad. When I saw him on the phone, he was crying. I'd never seen my dad cry before. My heart sank. What possibly could have happened?
"Max, I'm so sorry," I heard him say. That's when it hit me. I knew that Suzie had died. Max has been my dad's best friend for years. Suzie, his daughter, had a rare disease that mainly affected her body. Her brain was OK. She knew what was going on; she knew that she had problems and was different from other kids. Once she told her dad that she wished she could die and be born in a different body. Yet although she couldn't live a normal life ,she was still happy.
When Suzie and I were little, we spent quite a bit of time together. As we grew up, we grew apart. She lived in New York, and I lived in the Midwest. When Suzie was ten she had to live in a hospital in Virginia. About eight months before she died, Max gave us her number at the hospital and we talked at least twice a week until the end. Suzie was always so excited to talk to us and wanted to know every detail about my life. She wanted to know everything I did and everything I ate. In a way, she lived through me.
After we found out about her death, we made our plans to go to New York for the funeral. When she was alive, I sent her a Beanie Baby and she sent one back to me.
I had bought her another one but never had the chance to send it to her, so I took it to put in her casket(棺、材).
Her funeral was very different from any flmeral I'd ever been to. After they lowered her casket, each one of us put a shovelful of dirt over her. I remember crying so hard, I felt weak. My cheeks burned from the tears. My whole body was shaking as I picked up the shovel, but I'm glad I did it.
When Suzie and I first started calling one another, I thought it would be more of a burden
on me, but I was completely wrong. I learned so much from her. She gave me more than I could ever give to her. I will never forget her or the talks we had. I now know that I must never take anything for granted especially my health and the gift of life.
63. The author's family cancelled their ride because______ .
A. the author's friend Katie couldn't join them for the ride
B. the weather was too terrible for a ride
C. they couldn't find their dog
D. Max's daughter passed away
64. What does the underlined part “In a wav, she lived through me.”mean?
A. Suzie was too weak to live her own life.
B. Suzie was financially dependent of me.
C. Suzie got to know what life outside hospital was like by sharing my experience.
D. Suzie managed to pull through her illness with the sympathy from the author.
65. Which of the following is TRUE according to the text?
A. Suzie was the only person helping the author with difficulties.
B. The author feared that she might also get the same disease as Suzie.
C. The author benefited a lot from talking on the phone with Suzie.
D. The author didn't understand Suzie was her true friend until Suzie's death.
66. What is the most important lesson the author learned from Suzie's death?
A. Never let go of a friend even if you are apart.
B. Be thankful for what we have in our life.
C. Talking with a friend can cure your illness.
D. We can learn more from our friends than they do from us.
E
I used to like them—honest. We'd have lunch, talk on the phone or exchange e-mails, and they all seemed normal enough. Then came Facebook, and I was introduced to a sad fact: Many of my friends have dark side that they had kept from me. Sure, there were times these dark sides would surface—after too many drinks, say—but apologies and denials(否认)would follow, and all seemed heal thy... or at least acceptable.
Today my friends trumpet the more unpleasant aspects of their personalities via Facebook status updates. They're thrown in my face like TV commercials—unavoidable and endless advertisements for the worst aspects of their personalities.
Take Andy. You won't find a smarter CEO anywhere, but in tough economic times, he's a CEO without a company to run. So he plays Mafia Wars on Facebook. He's doing well-level 731,whatever that means. And thanks to Facebook and his status updates, I know he's playing about 18 hours a day. Andy, you've run four companies-and this is how you spend your downtime? What happened to golf? What happened to getting another job?
And then there's Liz. She is positive the H l N l vaccine will kill us all and that we should avoid it.
Chris likes to post at least 20 times a day on every site he can find, so I get to read his thoughts twice, once on Facebook and once on Twitter.
In real life, I don't see these sides of people. Face-to-face, my friends edit themselves, showing me their best. They're nice, smart people. Whereas face-to-Facebook, my friends are like a blind date gone horribly wrong, one in which you sit there listening while the person on the other side of the table talks on and on, pretty much forgetting you exist and not always making the best impression.
I'm left with a problem. Who is my real friend? Is it the Liz I have lunch with... or the anti-vaccine madman on Facebook? Is it the Fred I can grab a sandwich with... or the Fred who weeps if he's at a party and the wine isn't up to his standards?
I know too much about them. And what do they think of me? The guy who lurks(潜伏)online, afraid to reveal(揭露)the simplest fact about himself while judging others and making fun of their comments? I probably don't seem like much of a prize either.
67. What made the author change his opinions of his friends?
A. Their secrets on Facebook being exposed.
B. The changes to his friends.
C. The comments they made online.
D. The “dark sides" his friends show online.
68. From Andy's status updates, we can see that he seems to be______.
A. as active and ambitious online as he is in real life
B. ready to join the army and fight in wars
C. desperate and escaping from reality
D. exactly what the author expects of him
69. The author compared his friends to a blind date gone terribly wrong to show______,
A. his disappointment at seeing his friends' real selves
B. his curiosity about other aspects of his friends' lives
C. his expectation that they would improve
D. his pleasure in discovering the “dark sides" to his friends' characters
70. We can tell from the article that the author______.
A. is against showing one's true self online
B. is confused about what kind of people his friends really are
C. knows too many secrets about his friends to stay friendly with them
D. hates people who constantly update their status online

第⼆节书⾯表达(25分)(A possible version)
Different people may bid for different things. As for me, I want dream, friendship and an admission notice to a famous university most.
Dreams would be on the top of my list. Only by pursuing our dreams can we enjoy a meaningful and fulfilled life. Money can buy a comfortable life, but without dreams, even a millionaire would find his life boring.
A person without friends can never be happy. Our life is full of joys and sorrows, which we need people to share with. Faced with difficulties, we need friends to give us comfort and help. Just as a saying goes, “A friend in need is a friend indeed”. Friendship can help us through ups and downs of life, so friendship would be in my list as well.
