【2013届广东省六校第二次联考】
LEEDS, England—A Leeds University psychology professor is teaching a course to help dozens of Britons forgive their enemies.
"The hate we hold within us is a cancer, " Professor Ken Hart said, adding that holding in anger can lead to problems such as high blood pressure and heart disease.
More than 70 people have become members in Hart's first 20-week workshop in London—a course he says is the first of its kind in the world.
These are people who are sick and tired of living with a memory. They realize their bitterness is a poison they think they can pour out, but they end up drinking it themselves, said Canadian- born Hart.
The students meet in groups of eight to ten for a two-hour workshop with an adviser every fortnight.
The course, ending in July, is expected to get rid of the cancer of hate in these people. "People have lots of negative attitudes towards forgiveness," he said, "People confuse forgiveness with forgetting. Forgiveness means changing from a negative attitude to a positive one."
Hart and his team have created instructions to provide the training needed.
"The main idea is to give you guidelines on how to look at various kinds of angers and how they affect you, and how to change your attitudes towards the person you are angry with," said Norman Claringbull, a senior expert on the forgiveness project.
Hart said he believes forgiveness is a skill that can be taught, as these people "want to get free of the past".

At railway stations all across Britain next week, groups of students will gather with their backpacks to wait for the trains that will carry them home for Christmas. This is as large a movement of human beings as before, but with more contradictory traffic flows, so that trains filled with the young pass each other travelling in every direction.
At first, I went home every weekend with my washing, but then those visits became less regular. How did I let my parents know I was coming? They had no phone. Perhaps I wrote to them ("Expect me with dirty shirts this Friday afternoon"), but more likely I didn't let them know, and just turned up or didn't turn up, not understanding that my parents' dashed hopes of seeing me were a greater casualty of my carelessness than a spoiled tea.
And in all this I suspect I was typical, at least of young men. As for our fathers and mothers, none of them talked of "empty-nest syndrome", even though its implication that the principal human duty is to protect and feed the young would have suited their generation better than ours. Then, the feelings of loss went without a name. Today, it's a condition with remedies, which will make parents feel more enjoyable in their life. The Mayo Clinic, for example, suggests you try to maintain regular contact with your children through "visits, phone calls, emails, texts or video chats". If you feel depressed, lean on loved ones or your mental health provider. Above all, stay positive: "Thinking about the extra time and energy you might have to devote to your marriage or personal interests after your last child leaves home might help you adapt to this major life change."
What can’t be denied, however, is that children often leave home. In modern societies, this is what they do. Christmas is the very time they can be depended on to return. For the non-religious, that may be this season’s true comfort and significance.

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A new study suggests that middle-class teenagers are less intelligent than a generation ago due to the dumbing down (简化)of youth culture and school tests.
IQ tests show that scores for the average 14-year-old have dropped by more than two points between 1984 and 2012. For those in the upper half of the intelligence scale--a group typically dominated(支配) by the children of middle-class families--average IQ scores were six points down on 28 years ago. Their leisure time is increasingly taken up with playing computer games and watching TV instead of reading and holding conversations.
Education experts said a growing tendency in schools to "teach to the test" was affecting youngsters' ability to think laterally.
For the study, Professor James Flynn, of the University of Otago in New Zealand, analysed UK children's scores in IQ tests over time. He found a regular pattern that IQs increased among children aged between 5 and 10 over the 28-year-period, at the rate of up to half a point a year. He believes these gains are linked to changes to the home environment children experienced when they were young, with parents increasingly providing stimulating activities.
But Professor Flynn also found that teenagers' scores had dipped slightly over the past generation. It is the first time IQ scores have fallen for any age group during the past century, his research suggests. "While we have enriched the cognitive(认知的)environment of children before their teenage years, the cognitive environment of the teenagers has not been enriched."
"Other studies have shown how pervasive teenage youth culture is, and what we see is that the parents' influence on children’s IQ will slowly diminish with age." "What we know is that youth
culture is more visually orientated around computer games than they are in terms of reading and holding conversations."
He said previous studies have tended to show IQ increasing as teenagers move into adulthood, entering university or starting work. Previous studies have claimed that using text messages and email can temporarily reduce IQ by causing concentration to drop, while smoking marijuana(大麻) has also been linked with a decline in IQ.
66.We can infer from the passage that _______________
A. IQ tests scores for the average 14-year-old have dropped by more than two points in the past decade.

67.Which of the following can cause a decline in IQ?

D. smoking marijuana
68.According to Professor Flynn’s study one’s IQ scores can be increased at most _______ points .

D. 7
