When someone walks into a room wearing bright colours, everyone seems to take notice. Beautiful bright colours can easily draw our attention. Fresh roses can cheer us up when we’re feeling blue. Dressing up in colourful clothing can bring us into a more positive(积极的) mood.
What shall I wear today? What colour should I choose?
Dressing yourself for the day is quite important whether you know it or not. Our moods often show what our bodies end up wearing. When you look in the mirror after dress, train yourself to notice how you feel when you see yourself. Notice your mood. If you are not feeling yourself, could the colour of what you are wearing irritate (使不适) your nervous system? Did you never notice that before? We all know that dark colours
can tell lies. They can make you look and feel older than you really are. That is why baby clothes never come in dark colours. To the mind, dark colours seem easier to hold power, but to the heart and feeling level, they don’t help your heart to open. Bring happy colours and happiness to go hand in hand. Bright happy colours open your heart, calming your nervous system.
Some advice:
If you work around people who wear black, try to find a happy colour to look at to replace (取代) the picture of dark colours in your mind.
At night, wear soft clothes in light colours to help your nervous system calm down and smooth it out, preparing yourself for sleep.
Don’t dress children in dark colours because their nervous systems are just beginning to feel.

Country music is one of the most popular kinds of music in the United States today because it is about simple but strong feelings and events—love, sadness, good times, and bad times. It tells real-life. Stories and sounds the way people really talk. As life becomes more complicated (复杂的), it is good to hear music about common people.
Country music, sometimes called country-western, comes from two kinds of music. One is the traditional music of the people in the Appalachian Mountains in the eastern United States. The other is traditional cowboy music from the west. The singers usually play the guitars, and in the 1920s they started using electric (电子的) guitars.
At first, city people said country music was low class. It was popular mostly in the South. But during World War II, thousands of Southerners went to the Northeast and Midwest to work in factories. They took music
with them. Soldiers from the rest of the country went to army camps (军营) in the South. They learned country music. Slowly it became popular all over the country.
Today country music is also popular everywhere in the United States and Canada—in small towns and in New York City, among black and white, and among educated and uneducated people. About 1,200 radio stations broadcast (播出) country music twenty-four hours a day. English stars sing it in British English, and people in other countries sing it in their own languages. The music that started with cowboys and poor Southerners is now popular all over the world.

The webs that spiders(蜘蛛) build to catch insects seem weak. However, the strength of spider thread is greater than steel. Webs can even stand up to very strong storms.
In each spider web, some threads are sticky(粘的), but some are not. When a spider is moving on the web, it will not step on the sticky threads. After a time the silk will lose its stickiness and become unable to catch insects. Then, spiders usually eat their own web.
Now a team of scientists has worked out why the spider web is so
strong. It is not just the strength of the thread, but the clever design of the web. The key to a web’s success is its ability to keep its shape and strength even after some of the threads break, say scientists at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The scientists found the thread itself has the ability to become softer or harder. So it can hold different types of heavy things.
In tests, scientists used three other strong materials(材料) made into the same webs. The spider thread was six times stronger than any other material. More surprisingly, when the scientists took away up to 10 percent of the threads from different places, the web didn’t become any weaker. In fact, it became up to 10 percent stronger.
The spider web’s clever design gives scientists many new ideas. The findings could help design safer buildings and even a new type of strong material. “It’s a really good chance,” said Markus Buehler, a professor at MIT. “It may give us some new ideas for engineering.”
62.According to the passage, the spider web is strong because_______ .
a. the spider’s thread is sticky
b. the thread has a lot of strength
c. the web has a clever design
d. the web can keep the strength forever

Devra Davis, an epidemiologist(皮肤病专家) who has worked for the University of Pittsburgh, has published a book about mobile phone radiation(辐射)"Disconnect." Davis studies how often brain cancer(脑癌)happens during different age groups. She finds a big increase (增长) in brain cancer in the 20-to-29 age group and a drop for the older people.
Children are more easily hurt by radiation than grown-ups, Ms. Davis and other scientists point out. But no studies have yet been finished on cell phone radiation and children, she says.
Henry Lai, a research professor, began lab radiation studies in 1980 and found that mice exposed to(暴露在) radiofrequency(电波频率)radiation had destroyed DNA in their brains.
Ms. Davis recommends using wired earphones(有线耳机)or the phone's speaker. Children should send text messages rather than call, she said, and pregnant women should keep phones away from their bodies.

Many scientists find that colours can change people’s feelings. It’s very interesting. Now, this knowledge is used in many places. For example, school walls are usually painted green because green makes students feel relaxed. It is also good for the students’ eyes. Some books are also green or light blue for the same reason.
Restaurant owners have to know not only how to make food, but also how to make money. Here are some things they’ve learned from scientific studies. The colour red makes people hungry. Many fast food restaurants have red tables or walls. Soft colours like pink and light blue make people feel relaxed, so they spend more time eating. Loud music may be nice at first, but it soon makes people want to leave. Hard seats also make people want to eat quickly and leave. Many restaurants, especially fast food
restaurants, use this knowledge to make people eat faster.
