考试对大学生学业的影响英语作文
Exams and Tests Are Really Tough for University Kids
Hi there! My name is Timmy and I'm 8 years old. My big sister Emily just started university last year. She's told me all about how hard it is with all the exams and tests she has to take. It sounds super stressful!
Emily says that in university, your whole grade depends on just a few exams at the end of each semester. That means if you have a bad day or get sick during exam time, it can really mess up your entire grade for that class. No pressure or anything!
She told me about her first set of final exams last December. Emily had four huge exams covering everything she learned over the whole semester. She was studying around the clock - staying up late into the night, drinking tons of coffee, and stressing out big time. It seemed like those few weeks of exams were more important than all the other work she did all semester!
Emily says the exam period is crazy stressful because if you blank out or make simple mistakes on just one exam, it can completely ruin your grade after months of hard work. She had one math exam where she just went blank and couldn't
remember how to do a certain type of problem. That one bad exam really brought down her grade in that class a lot.
Not only that, but Emily had to write essays for her exams too, which is really hard. You have to organize all your thoughts under time pressure without making any mistakes. If your hand gets cramped up from writing so much, too bad! The exam doesn't stop.
Another thing that stinks about exams is that they force you to cram everything you learned over four whole months into your brain at the last minute through caffeine-fueled all-nighters. Emily says it's impossible to learn things properly that way and you just end up forgetting it all right after the exams are over. It's like info overload!
The couple of weeks during exam periods are apparently the most stressful and intense times of the whole year at university. Emily gets really moody and snaps at everyone because she's so burnt out from the exam craziness. No fun at all!
Sometimes there are conflicts too where you have multiple exams scheduled at the same time. Then you have to pick which one to write and do the other exam at a different time, which messes up your preparation even more. What a headache!
It's not just the big exam periods that are stressful either. Emily also has mid-term exams and tests throughout the semesters too. She's always complaining about having some kind of exam or test pretty much every week. It never stops!
I remember one time my mom asked Emily to babysit me because she had a test coming up that week. Emily yelled "How am I supposed to babysit when I have to study for my Econ 305 midterm? That class is going to be the death of me!" She gets so worked up over these things!
The exam format itself seems kind of stupid and unfair too. Emily says you have to regurgitate everything you've learned perfectly onto the exam paper to get a good grade. It doesn't actually show whether you understand the material or just crammed it temporarily. Why can't they have more projects, presentations and assignments instead? Those seem way better for learning.
Apparently there's a huge difference between an A and a B grade too when it comes to your overall GPA. So if you just mess up slightly on an exam, it makes a huge impact rather than a small deduction. That leads to students agonizing over every little point on exams. No room for error at all!
To me, it seems like relying so heavily on just a few exams puts way too much pressure on students and sets them up for high levels of anxiety, stress and burnout. If you ask me, there should be way more assignments, projects and homework weighted into the final grade instead of just a couple of
make-or-break exams. That would make the whole year less insane!
I feel really bad for Emily and all university students who have to go through this incredibly stressful examination process multiple times per year. It just doesn't seem like a very effective or healthy way to validate whether students have learned the material properly. At the very least, they need to find ways to make exams less harsh and all-or-nothing!
Well, those are my thoughts as a kid looking at the crazy exam reality my big sis has to deal with. I just hope by the time I get to university, they have found a better way to evaluate learning that doesn't cause so much unnecessary stress and pressure! Exams seem way too tough from where I'm standing. Stay strong university kids!。
