As a college student, I've been encouraged countless times to get involved in volunteer work. Professors, advisors, and even my parents have all stressed the importance of gaining
real-world experience and giving back to the community. At first, the idea didn't really appeal to me. I was already juggling a full course load, working a part-time job, and trying to maintain
some semblance of a social life. Adding volunteer responsibilities to the mix seemed downright impossible.
That all changed when my grandmother was admitted to Sunnydale Nursing Home last year. Seeing the outstanding level of care and compassion she received from the staff opened my eyes to an opportunity I had previously overlooked. I began visiting her regularly, and during those visits, I couldn't help but notice just how overworked the employees were. The nurses' aides rushed from room to room, trying their best to tend to every resident's needs. The recreation coordinators made valiant efforts to keep the more active residents engaged and entertained.
