To personal trainer Sammy Callari, 13-year-old Parker Seward is more than a client(客户). He's his "little brother". Over the past year, the pair have bonded. They play basketball together, share meals and dance to hip-hop like no one's watching.
The trainer was asked to work with the 13-year-old boy, who has Down syndrome(唐氏症), because his coworker who dealt with the boy was out of town last spring. Callari had never worked with someone with a disability before. He was anxious the first day he met Parker. But Parker's big smile and cheery introduction immediately put him at ease. He reminded Callari of himself when he was a teenager. Like Parker, Callari has also faced his fair share of challenges over the years.
As a high schooler, Callari described himself as being the weak kid. When it came to sports, he was always overlooked. His dream of playing baseball in college quickly faded away. When he went to college, Callari turned to a new sport. His younger brother trained him to become a boxer. Callari participated in five matches. Out of four of those fights he was the underdog, and he won three times. "I know how it feels," Callari said. "Society tells you that you can't do this, you can't do that." When it comes to Parker, Callari refuses to accept the word "can't".
The friends meet twice a week to train. They bike, box, run and work on their core with push-ups. Parker has a short attention span, so it's Callari's job to keep him focused. "If Parker can do it, if he's having fun, even with his frustration, then people will ask, 'Why can't I do that?" Callari said. "That's the whole task right now."
Callari recalls Parker's mom once thanking him for taking a "chance" on her son. Callari told her he never viewed it that way. Parker may be the student, but Callari says he's also the one who's learning.
24. Why was Callari asked to train Parker?

26. What attitude does Callari have to Parker?

Scooter Braun, the artist manager responsible for developing Justin Bieber’s career and whose clients include Carley Rae Jepsen. Ariana Grande and Kanye West, told the Associated Press Wednesday that he is planning a benefit concert for those affected by this week’s terrible storm.
Braun’s partner in planning the event is Bun B, a Houston native and rapper best known for his work with the foundational southern duo UGK. The concert is planned for Sept. 12 and is “tentatively scheduled”to be televised on four networks.
Braun was behind the successful One Love Manchester concert earlier this year, which drew the largest television audience—14.5 million—of the year at the time and raised $3 million to support victims of the Manchester Arena bombing outside an Ariana Grande concert on May 22 that killed 22 and wounded dozens more.
The artist Solange, also a Houston native, announced another benefit concert to be held next month at Boston’s Oprheum Theatre on Sept. 28, featuring The Sun Ra Arkestra as part of her Orion’s Rise concert series. “I’m committed to partnering with organizations on the ground in Houston and making contributions to cheer up the stricken city that raised me with so much love.”The singer also added an additional show at Radio City Music Hall, of which $3 from each ticket will go towards storm relief efforts.
Solange’s sister Beyonce is also working, through her Be Y GOOD charitable organization, on relief efforts, though details aren’t known. “She has done a lot that she has requested we shouldn’t announce,”the Rev. Rudy Rasmus of Houston’s St. John’s church, said recently. A Facebook post of the pop star who simply read “BE Y GOOD HOUSTON”earlier today drew some 254, 125 likes in 52 minutes this morning.
Many celebrities and companies announced their intentions to donate this week, with many opting to route their money towards the Red Cross. However, the organization said that it can’t quantify how many of those dollars go towards relief efforts. At least 25 have died and tens of thousands have been displaced by the storm. 28. What is the purpose of the concert organized by Scooter Braun and Bun B on Sept.

When we think about endangered species, we typically think of mammals such as whales, tigers or pandas. But the over 5, 500 of mammal species on Earth is a relatively poor number—and it pales in comparison with bacteria, of which there are at least a million different species.
Despite their vast numbers, little research has been done to understand the impact that modern human practices have on these tiny organisms(生物), which have an important influence on many aspects of our lives.
There are also reasons for concern over the way humans are affecting bacterial species, and in many cases we are causing the same type of problems that affect larger organisms. Bacterial population structures are definitely changing, and bacterial species are being transported to new locations. Perhaps some bacteria are even on their way to extinction, although we don’t really have enough information to be certain yet.
Why should we care if bacteria are being spread to new places? Besides the obvious potential for spreading diseases to humans, animals and crops, there are also hidden dangers.
Microorganisms are invisible to the naked eye, so we tend to ignore them and don’t necessarily appreciate their role in how the planet operates. Bacteria are very important to biogeochemistry—the cycling of nutrition and other chemicals through ecosystems. For instance, before humans invented a way to make fertilizer industrially, every single nitrogen(氮)atom in our proteins and DNA had to be chemically caught by a bacterial cell before it could be taken in by plants and then enter the human food chain. The oxygen we breathe is largely made by microorganisms in the oceans rather than mainly by rainforests, as is opposite to common belief.
Our effects on bacteria have the potential to change these basic bacterial functions. It is vital to gain a better understanding of how humans are affecting microorganisms’distribution, their abundance, and their life-keeping processes. Although bacteria are invisible, we overlook them at our own risk.
32. What can be learned about the bacteria according to the text?
A. Their population is becoming larger.
B. Some of them may become endangered species.
C. They only cause great threat to other creatures.
D. Much attention has been drawn to their researches.
33. What was the first step of the cycling of a nitrogen atom before entering our
body?
A. Being caught by a bacterial cell.
B. Entering the human food chain.
C. Being transported by humans.
D. Being taken in by plants.
34. Where is the majority of oxygen produced according to the text?
A. In the human food chain.
B. In the rainforest.
C. In the mountains.
D. In the oceans.
35. Which part of the newspaper is the text probably taken from?
A. Science and technology.
B. Health and medicine.
C. Agriculture and animals.
D. Environment and energy.

When people have a choice of whom to work with, likability can sometimes matter a little bit more than ability, said Tiziana Casciaro, an associate professor at the University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management, who researches likability in the workplace. 36 These strategies can help:
37
You can induce a sense of similarity with almost anybody by finding things you have in common. They may not be apparent right away, so be observant. Great salespeople do this all the time by studying potential customers for bits and pieces of their lives they can relate to.
Like someone and they'll like you right back
38 Flattery(奉承) can convey fondness, but she doesn't recommend using the fake kind, even though it may work. Casciaro said, "Flattery that is completely made up is exhausting and morally blameworthy." Instead, let a praise come from a real place.
39 For instance, "I really appreciate what you did yesterday."
When you give people praises, it goes a very long way towards their liking you back.
Be a familiar presence
Humans like things that are familiar, so just seeing you around in person makes you more likable to others. "This concept gives a whole new meaning to the idea of face time," Casciaro said. 40 If not, just try to talk to people as much as possible in
person during work hours, she advised. You want to maximize rich interactions and cut down on the drier ones, like texts and phone calls. Be sure to be seen.
A.Ask a lot of question
B.See the positive in a person and express it to him
C.What can you do to increase your chances of being liked?
D.Find the common points that link you with another person
E.It’s almost irresistible that we like people who seem to like us
F.Go to after-work drinks if you have time and you would find the outing enjoyable
G.People liked a robot that made mistakes more than a robot that performed perfectly
