What is the difference between happy people and unhappy people? 36 Read the following list of things that HAPPY people do differently from UNHAPPY people and you will know.
Well, I can tell you for sure that those people who are really happy, FEAR less and LOVE a lot more. They see each moment, each challenge, each person as an opportunity to discover more about themselves and the world around them. 37
Happy people understand that you can’t really change a situation by resisting(反抗)it. But they can feel better by understanding that there might be a reason for its existence(存在).
38 But rather, they ask themselves questions like: What can I learn from this? How can I make this better? They always seem to be pleasant and hopeful no matter what happens to them.
They do the things they do because of the meaning it brings into their lives and because they get a sense of purpose by doing so.
39 They care more about living a life full of meaning
rather than, what in our modern society we would call, living a successful life. The fact here is that most of the time they get both, success and meaning, just because they choose to focus on doing the things they love the most.
40 They make sure that their actions bring meaning and happiness in the lives of many. They look for ways to give and to share the best of themselves with the world and to make other people happy.
A. They have an ideal living and a balanced life.
B. What are the things that these people do differently?
C. They are kind to themselves and others and they understand the power of love.
D. The things happy people do are not for themselves, but for the good of others.
E. They are ready to embrace whatever lies in front of them.
F. They understand that “Doing what you love is the most important for living a full life”.
G. When something unpleasant happens to them, they don’t try
to fight it, knowing that this will make the situation even worse.

Two hundred years after Charles Darwin’s birth, studies have found new details of his life at the University of Cambridge. Six leatherbound ledgers (皮革账本) discovered in the university show this. 36
He lived in the most expensive rooms provided for a rich student at his time. 37 He had someone to clean his room, make his bed and take care of the fire in his bright rooms. He hired a dishwasher, a clothes washer and a man who cleaned his shoes. A tailor (裁缝), hatter and barber made sure he was well presented. A chimney cleaner and a coalman kept his fire going. Christ’s College’s basic food was meat and beer. 38 Darwin’s bill topped 636 pounds during his three years of study at Cambridge. Later he described this time as the most joyful of his happy life. That large sum (金额) would have been fairly common for a student at Cambridge in the 19th century.
39
In those days Cambridge was full of rich students living a pretty good life and Darwin was just one of them. 40 And thus he had plenty of time for socializing or private study. He would be out shooting, collecting beetles, doing his scientific hobbies or visiting friends. He played cards and drank wine at night, just like students always have.
A. Thanks to the richness, he was able to hire servants to help with the daily life.
B. The findings were published on the Internet.
C. So he paid five and a half pence extra each day to have vegetables.
D. He enjoyed the kind of comfortable university life that most of today’s students can only dream about.
E. He had several people to help him to deal with the daily housework.
F. When you look at the ledgers, you can find there were many rich students in Cambridge.
G. The bills were paid by his wealthy father, Robert Darwin, a
doctor.

Saudi government organizations worked with Shaeri’s construction department to accomplish this task.

“We have been waiting for this moment for a long time.
39 “ Naser Makke, the patient’s cousin, told Reuters excitedly. “The King had given his orders to the government of
health to do all the arrangements to transfer the patient for treatment in a safe way. May God protect our King and give him the long life. ”

In spite of so many years of education behind us, can we confidently say we understand what it feels like to be a teacher?
The biggest misunderstanding about teaching jobs is that anyone can be a teacher. In fact, the truth is far from it. 36 They also know the teaching theory well. They should know how things should be taught and how one can be inspired to learn. Also, they need to have an idea about classroom management and students’ psychology(心理学).
Now it can be really annoying for a teacher if someone says teaching is one of the easiest jobs around, because everyone just needs to be taught for a few hours a day. 37 However, teachers work longer to come up with ways to make the knowledge appear more interesting to students and help them learn better.
38 And this is a big reason why more people decide to choose teaching as a career. However, good teachers choose to make good use of the break, by enrolling(注册) themselves for
workshops on teaching, classroom management, and related things.
All teachers are not the same, as against what is widely believed. 39 Every teacher is different and has a different approach(方法)to teaching.
40 A teacher has meetings to attend, and is responsible for(对……负责) organizing school events. An important duty of a teacher is to prepare the progress report of each student and discuss it with his or her parents.
In a word, teachers ought to be respected for what they do, and we should never forget their great contribution(贡献)to our success in life.
A. A teacher has many things to do rather than just teach.
B. It is true that teachers get a lot more holidays than others.
C. A good teacher is one who motivates students to overcome challenges.
D. To begin with, teachers are people who perform well in their fields of study.
E. A statement that is true for one teacher is not necessarily true for the others.
F. And common people even believe teachers are probably overpaid when their days end at 3 pm.
G. These teachers give all they can to create an ideal learning environment for their students.

What is happiness? Maybe you often forget it. Here are some happiness habits you always forget.
You forget to breathe consciously (有意识地). Most yoga courses today talk about meditation (冥想). 36 Go out and find a natural spot. Inhale (吸气) deeply, and then exhale. Repeat this 10 times and watch how you lighten up your mood. It can help people feel calm.
You forget to smile at people around you. Smiling is not just a happiness supporter for you but for others. In fact, the more you smile at people, the more they are eager to help you. 37 And it brings so much positive energy that you’ll need to make great
friends.
You forget to say thank you. 38 It is also about your overall feelings and imagination: of being thankful for little things that you receive. Feel good, be thankful and you’ll be always happy. So don’t forget to express you r thanks to others.
You forget to taste your experiences. Do you always hurry with what you are doing? 39 Or do you always think that there’s not enough for you to enjoy? Take some time to enjoy the taste of the food you are eating, or the comfort of the chair you are sitting on.
40 You surf the Internet, watch TV, and go to work. You are so caught up with all these things that you have forgotten to spend some quiet time. Take a moment to sit down, and do nothing — feeling the silence and being happy.

The major effect, and also a very common one, is that once you start a regular life away from home, you miss everything.
37 Little things like sitting on a Sunday morning watching TV alone instead of having a nice chat with your mom make you realize how valuable your family really is.
38 Since you are living in a place with different customs and traditions from yours, you have to be able to develop yourself in conditions which you are not familiar with. This means making new friends, accepting different opinions, and catching every opportunity you have to go to new places.
The most significant effect of living away from home is the independence that grows inside you. 39 There is no one else to go to school, clean your room, and wash your clothes. Being independent will help you get over many difficulties.

Having a shy styl e isn’t necessarily a problem. It’s perfectly OK to take time to warm up new people and situations. Here are some tips for beating shy feelings.
Start small with people you know. Practice social behaviors like eye contact, confident body language, introductions, small talk, asking questions, and invitations with the people you feel most comfortable around. Smile. Build your confidence this way.
36 .
Think of some conversation starters. 37 . Think of conversation openers, like introducing yourself, giving a compliment, or asking a question. Being ready with a conversation starter (or a few) makes it easier to approach someone.
Rehearse(排练) what to say. 38 . Rehearse it out loud, maybe even in front of the mirror. Then just do it. Don’t worry
if it’s not exactly like you have practiced or if it’s not perfect. Also few of the things confident people do are perfect. Next time, it’ll be better because it will be easier.
39 . Find group activities where you can be with people who share your interests. Give yourself a chance to practice socializing (社交) with these new people, and get to know them slowly. We often carry a lot of things when we’re traveling. 36 On long ones we carry things like passports, visas, etc. Though traveling can be fun, we’re likely to misplace these things and even lose them because of the excitement of the journey or being too busy or tired. So how can we carry valuable things safely while traveling?
37 Place most of it in a wallet and put the wallet in your main suitcase or bag with a lockandkey system. Don’t open it until you reach your destination (目的地). Guess how much money you’ll need on the journey, and place this money in a different wallet and carry this in your pocket. 38
Next, instead of wearing your jewelry, you can carry your jewelry at the bottom of your suitcase or bag. 39 Many people think that since the purse is always going to be in their hands, it’ll remain safe. But other things like tickets, phone
numbers, keys, etc., are all going to go in there. So you’re often going to open your purse for something or the other. What if you just drop it?
Then remember to hook (钩住) the keys. You get those really nice key chains these days that come with a big doghook.
40 Use one of these to carry your keys. This way, you won’t leave the keys in a restaurant or any other place.
Hope all the above tips for traveling will help you.

How to become a better reader
Language and literacy(读写能力) are among humans’ greatest inventions. Evolving(演变)over the course of human history, languages are a reflection of our cultural and societal attitudes. Today, surrounded(包围)by social media, television, movies, and, of course, books, the ability to read and write is important to expressing one’s feelings. Most humans acquire language in early childhood and speak fluently when they are about three years old, but our continued relationship with language gives shape and meaning to our lives. 36
(1) Take it slow. Many readers feel that they read too slowly, especially compared with others. 37 The best readers are flexible(灵活的)— slowing down when needed — and always have a dictionary at hand.
(2) Read aloud. When humans first began reading written words, it was unusual to read in silence. 38 Try listening to the author reading their own work —you’ll be surprised to find how clearly it comes through on the page.
(3) Write. Writing and reading go handinhand: how and what
you read affects how and what you write, and the best readers often make the best writers. But while much can be learned from close, repeated readings, there are many pleasures to language that can only be experienced through the practice of writing. 39
(4) Tell your friends. All of the literature is essentially communication from an individual’s inner voice to an audience.
40 It’s a good way to see the world from someone else’s eyes and, in the process, carefully examine your own reaction to what you’re reading.
A. But the truth is that the faster you read, the less likely you are to understand fully what you’re reading.
B. Can you remember the first piece of writing that transported you to another world?
C. There is something magical about sharing books with friends or a book club.
D. Try writing every day for a month, and you will never read the same again.
E. Reading out loud is one of the best ways to improve your
reading ability.
F. Here are 4 ways to become a better reader.
G. In no time, you’ll be appreciating novels like fine wine.
12
Do you know how to pick a good book you’ll really like? Here are some tips.
Start With Your Interest. 36 . You can pick something that you love to read, not for school. They can be ancient martial (武术) arts, computers, or fashion design. You name it, there are books about it.
What’s Your Type? Do you prefer fiction or nonfiction (or both)? Fiction books, like novels, can transport you to another world or help you imagine something beyond your own experience. Nonfiction books give you the who, what, when, and why of something. 37 . Many of them read like novels from start to finish.
Read the description. The reviews and quotes on the back and inside covers of many books give you an idea of what the
book is about. They can also help you pick future books, too. If you find a book you really like, take a minute to read the quotes and see which authors praised the book. 38 .
Find a Family Favorite. Which book did your mother love best when she was at your age? 39 . Find out and give them a read — then you can share your thoughts about the book.
Finally, you’ll probably enjoy what you’re reading a lot more if you find a quiet place and make time for the book.
40 . You can put on some good music, get yourself some tea and let yourself be carried away by the book. You’ll see that time does fly when you’re reading something you love!
A. How about your brothers and sisters?
B. They tell stories using facts — but that does n’t mean they’re boring.
C. Reading is a good way to improve your English.
D. Most reading is best enjoyed when you can concentrate (全神贯注) on it.
E. Often, they’ll have similar styles and you might find books
you like by those authors, too.
F. So you should read as much as possible when you are free.

13

Sleepaway camp offers more excitement because you’ll be there all day and night. It’s a kind of vacation, but without your parents. You’ll probably sleep in a t ent(帐篷)with other kids attending the camp. Your parents should not worry about your food. 37 Some sleepaway camps are for both boys and girls, which means that there are both boys and girls at the camp. 38 Often these allgirl and allboy camps meet up for some special purposes.
Usually, the camp mails out information to your family before you go. 39 Most of all, you’ll also probably need to
bring a health report. Let coaches know about any health problem you hav e. Just like any vacation, you’ll need to pack a bag full of the clothes. 40 Food is generally provided, but you might need some extra money for snacks or other small expenses(费用).

do better and find out solutions more easily when you share your problems.
