一、阅读理解
Copenhagen has GREAT public transport. It is reliable, safe, and easily accessible. Of course, like everything in Copenhagen, it is not cheap. The system can be a little confusing, even for locals, but we’re here to help simplify it all for you! And today our focus is Travelling with a Bike.
BIKES ON THE TRAIN
Bicycles can be taken on s-tog lines for free but you can’t take bikes through Nørreport station during peak hours. To take your bike on a train, you need to put it on the first or last carriage, clearly marked with large signs of bicycles on the outside.
To take a bike on a regional train, which takes you to parts of Denmark outside Copenhagen, you must buy an extra ticket. The price depends on the distance and varies from 16 kr to 28 kr.
BIKES ON THE METRO
Bicycles can be taken on the metro for an extra 13 kr. You need to pay for the bike with its own ticket. You can’t take your bike on the metro during peak hours.
BIKES ON THE BUS
You can bring a bike on a bus but each bus is limited to two bikes, even if there is much space. Generally, people do not travel with their bikes on buses in Copenhagen.
BIKES ON THE FERRY(渡轮)
Charges for bicycles depend on the company and the destination. You will need to check with the ferry companies. When you book the ticket, you must state that you have a cycle, even if it’s free of charge.

I was 68 when I first stepped on stage as a standup comedian in 2003. I’d never set foot in a comedy club before. I’ve always been a performer - I’ve worked as a singer, actor and musician - but all that came to an end after 9/11. I live in New York, and we watched the twin towers fall from my apartment building. For a year afterwards, nobody wanted to go out or be entertained.
It was then that I started to think about comedy. I realised people needed to laugh, to enjoy themselves again, and thought that with a little training I could do it. I took a few classes, tried to work out a routine, and finally plucked up the courage to get up on stage. That first time was terrifying. I had no idea what the audience would make of me.
In New York, comedians are typically young men with beards. It’s hard enough to break through as a woman, even harder as someone old enough to be their grandmother. As I stepped on stage that first time, people laughed nervously. They were clearly surprised to see me. I introduced myself, stated my age and tried my first joke. There was silence. But by the time I got to the third line, people were properly laughing, I was addicted.
Now my sets differ. I might be on stage for 10 minutes in front of a dozen people, or my one-woman show is a full hour in front of a crowd of 100. Even today, I’m nervous before I step out. My first line is, “Hello, everybody. I’m 88 and three-quarters years old. I’m telling you that in case I don’t make it all the way through the show.” Then people laugh and I relax.
After a show, people young and old come up to me, saying what an inspiration I am. They say they want to be as active as me when they reach my age. I’m pleased I can show that as an older person you don’t need to take a back seat in life.
I’ve no intention of stopping comedy. I’m taking all these pills, trying to stay alive, and I
hope to still be performing when I’m 100. My goal is to still be up there making people laugh. It’s hard work, but it stops me being bored. I’d only be playing golf otherwise

The 19th Asian Games are about to kick off, opening on Sept 23 in Hangzhou. Held in a city famous for its digital technology, the Games have the principle of “being smart”.
With the rise of high-definition livestreaming(高清直播), sports venues(场馆) have placed higher demands on internet connections. In the Hangzhou venues, 5G-Advanced, or 5.5G technology, will be applied. Zhang Jian from China Telecom told Economic Information Daily: “The technology of 5.5G can support the high-definition livestreaming of about 10 events at the same time.”
A strong signal for a smooth livestreaming experience and fast Internet speed for audiences during the events will be achieved through the use of Reconfigurable Intelligent metaSurface (RIS) technology. It looks like a white-colored board, and is roughly the size of a TV. RIS can effectively reflect signals covering up to 10,000 square meters with no internet
dead spots.
Online viewers will also get to enjoy some smart technology. Take the badminton competition venue as an example. On the second floor of the stadium, there are 20 high-definition cameras. A virtual reality (VR) camera is also positioned at the net, capturing(捕捉) athletes’ movements from different angles. Backstage staff can create slow-motion videos 5 to 10 seconds after the move, reported the IT Times.
Viewers wearing VR glasses can see what’s happening within the stadium remotely. They can “move around” in the virtual scene and even stand beside the athletes to cheer them on. When watching the Games on their smartphone, viewers can choose from four perspectives, including a bird’s eye view or a close-up view of an athlete.
Viewers can also get a quick tour of the venues in the metaverse(元宇宙). By clicking into a mini program on Alipay, users can enter the metaverse, where Asian Games venues and maps are re-created in an animated(动画的) style. Each user can have their own digital character. Users can “take a walk” in different venues and chat with other users. They can also play mini-games with other users, such as playing with different competitors in a running contest.
8.What do we know about RIS technology?
A.It is a type of 5.5G technology.B.It enables virtual experiences.
C.It enhances Internet connectivity.D.It improves the definition of videos. 9.Why is the badminton competition venue mentioned?
A.To suggest the complexity of building the venue.
B.To show its differences from other venues.
C.To highlight the efforts of backstage staff.
D.To illustrate the use of smart technology
10.What can viewers do with VR glasses?
A.Interact with athletes.B.Watch slow-motion replays.
C.Experience games from four angles.D.Feel like they are at the scene. 11.How can viewers enter the metaverse to experience the venues?
A.By purchasing a set of game equipment.B.By creating an animated character.
C.By accessing a mini program.D.By opening a new account on Alipay.
Satellites are already in use for so many purposes today — from weather forecasting to
communications, GPS, and more.
Since the late 1970s, satellites such as the European Space Agency’s (ESA) CryoSat-2 and the US Space Agency’s ICESat-2, have also been used to monitor changes in the Arctic sea ice.
Data suggests that sea ice is thinning over time due to climate change. Over the last 40 years, the extent of Arctic ice cover has been declining at a rate of 13% per decade. However, existing ways of measurement do not provide a clear and continuous picture of the state of sea ice.
These satellites use special radar or laser-based altimeter instruments (雷达或激光测高仪). Sea ice thickness is then calculated as the difference between the height of the ice and the top of the water (ice level—sea level). This method works well during the winter months.
Unfortunately, satellite-based sea ice thickness measurements are inaccurate during the summer months: the time of the year with the greatest melting. This melting creates a pool of liquid water on the surface. As a result, the simple calculation (ice level—sea level) does not work as radar systems are unable to differentiate between ocean water and ice, thus making measurements inaccurate.
Last September, scientists developed a new method to tackle this age-old issue. The new method combined computer modeling and satellite data to predict ice thickness — all year round. The research team led by Jack Landy, a scientist at the University of Tromsø (The Arctic University of Norway), used the new method to distinguish between seawater and ice.
The researchers built a model of the radar system’s predicted data and cross-referenced these values to those collected by a satellite. This model allows the researchers to obtain accurate, year-round Arctic sea ice thickness data.
According to Dr. Michel Tsamados from University College London, the new advanced climate model “will improve both the short-term forecasts for the weather at the mid-latitudes (中纬度地区) and the long-term forecasts that show what climate we will have in the future.”12.What does the satellite data tell us?
A.The Arctic ice will no longer exist in four decades.
B.Sea ice cover is melting at a rate of 13% per year.
C.The ESA’s satellites provide clearer pictures.
D.Sea ice is becoming increasingly thinner.
13.What makes the ice level to sea level measurements inaccurate?
A.Inaction of the laser-based altimeter instruments in summer.
B.Radar systems’ inability to distinguish seawater from ice.
C.There being technical difficulty calculating the height of the ice.
D.There being no way to consistently detect melt pools on ice.
14.What does the new method aim to do?
A.Provide accurate forecasts for the weather.
B.Replace satellites in monitoring sea ice changes.
C.Get a reliable summertime record of sea ice thickness.
D.Test the efficiency of machine learning in climate change.
15.What does Dr. Michel Tsamados think of the new model?
A.It will be useful in different ways.
B.It will prove environmentally friendly.
C.It has a short-term impact on climate research.
D.It needs improvement to predict the Arctic’s future.
二、七选五
Have you ever struggled to understand how someone else feels? Building up your empathy (同理心) skills helps you connect with your friends. 16
What is empathy?
Empathy is a kind of capability that lets you step into someone else’s shoes and then figure out how they are feeling. For instance, if you can see your friend is upset after losing a football match and you support them by telling them some warm and motivating words, you are showing empathy. Miranda McKeamey set up an organization called EmpathyLab that builds empathy through reading. 17 “Empathy is a force for change,” she says.
18
Scientists say empathy isn’t something you are born with, it’s a skill you can acquire through learning. One way you can do this is by active listening. When someone is talking to you, listen closely and respond in a way that shows you understand their situations and emotions thoroughly. Reading, advocated by EmpathyLab, is also a great way to boost empathy, since stories can take you inside someone else’s mind and show you the world through their eves and emotions.
Put empathy into action.
19 This could mean trying out something that is important to a friend or family member, like exploring their favorite place. EmpathyLab advocated ideas for putting empathy into action in schools or at home. That might be connecting with someone new in your class and having a friendly conversation, or making small changes to your behaviour. All small acts of kindness to others can make a difference, which in turn will be copied by someone else.
20
A.How can you have more empathy?
B.Who need empathy most in daily life?
C.Besides, it also spreads kindness and inspires them to do the same.
D.To find out more conducts you can do, log in .
E.Only by putting empathy into action can you relate to others’ bad lives.
F.She believes even small, supportive actions can have a positive impact.
G.Miranda recommends going into the thick of people’s lives to show empathy.
