In the second unit of the fifth grade, we read a story. The story is about a girl named Li Mei who goes on a trip to Beijing with her family. They visit many famous places like the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, and Tiananmen Square. Li Mei is very excited to see all these historical sites and learns a lot about Chinese culture and history.
When I read the story, I felt inspired to visit Beijing myself. I have always been interested in Chinese culture and history, and reading about Li Mei's experiences made me even more curious. I would love to see the Great Wall with my own eyes and walk through the ancient halls of the Forbidden City.
I think it would be amazing to immerse myself in the vibrant atmosphere of Beijing. I can imagine strolling through the narrow streets of the hutongs, trying delicious
street food, and bargaining at the local markets. It would be a great opportunity to practice my Mandarin and learn more about the Chinese way of life.
One of the things I found interesting in the story was how Li Mei's family communicated with the locals. They used a mixture of Mandarin and English to get by. I think this
is a great example of how language can bring people together. Even if we don't speak the same language fluently, we can still find ways to communicate and connect with each other.
