Modern zoos are different from those built fifty years ago. At that time zoos were places where people could go to see animals from many parts of the world. The
animals lived in cages with iron bars. Although the zoo keepers took good care of them, many of the animals did not feel comfortable, and they often fell ill.
In modern zoos, people can see animals in more natural conditions. The animals are given more freedom in larger places so that they can live as they would in nature. Even the appearance of zoos has changed. Trees and grass grow in cages, and water flows through the places the animals live in. There are few bars; instead, there is often a deep ditch, filled with water, which surrounds a space where several sorts of animals live together as they would naturally. In an American zoo, the visitor can walk through a huge special cage that is filled with trees, some small animals and many birds, and large enough for the birds to live naturally. In a zoo in New York, with the use of special night light, people can observe certain animals that are active only at night, when most zoos are closed. Some zoos have special places for visitors to watch animals that live in the desert or under water.
Modern zoos not only show animals to visitors, but also keep and save rare animals. For this reason, fifty years from now, the grandchildren of today’s visitors will be able to enjoy watching these animals.

Nearly everyone is shy in some ways. If shyness is making you uncomfortable, it may be time for a few lessons in self-confidence. You can build your confidence by following some suggestions from doctors and psychologists.
Make a decision not to hold back in conversations. What you have to say is just as important as what other people say. And don’t turn down party invitations just because of your shyness.
Prepare yourself for being with others in groups. Make a list of the good qualities you have. Then make a list of ideas, experiences, and skills you would like to share with other people. Think about what you would like to say in advance. Then say it.
If you start feeling self-conscious in a group, take a deep breath and focus your attention on other people. Remember, you are not alone. Other people are concerned about the impression they are making, too.
No one ever gets over being shy completely, but most people do learn to live with their shyness. Even entertainers admit that they often feel shy. They work at fighting their shy feelings so that they can face the cameras and the public. Just making the effort to control shyness can have many rewards. But perhaps the best reason to fight shyness is to give other people a chance to know more about you.

Nobody knows who first invented it, but the umbrella was used in very ancient times. Probably the first to use it were the Chinese, back in the eleventh century B.C. To use it seems so natural to put up an umbrella to keep the water off when it rains. But actually the umbrella was not invented as protection against rain. It was first used as a shade against the sun.
We know it was used in ancient Egypt and Babylon as a sunshade. And there was a strange thing connected with its use; it became a symbol of honor and authority. In the Far East in ancient times, the umbrella was allowed to be used only by royal people or by those in high office.
In Europe, the Greeks were the first to use the umbrella as a sunshade. And the umbrella was in common use in ancient Greece. But it is believed that the first persons in Europe to use the umbrellas as protection against the rain were the ancient Romans.
During the Middle Ages, the use of the umbrella practically disappeared. Then it appeared again in Italy in the late 16th century. And again it became a symbol of power and authority. By 1680, the umbrella appeared in France, and later on in England.
By the eighteenth century, the umbrella was used against rain throughout most of Europe. Umbrellas have not changed much in style during all this time, though they have become much lighter in weight. It wasn’t until the twentieth century that women’s umbrellas began to be made in a variety of colors.

“Thanks〞 to the seasonal change, half of my class went down with colds and flu. You can hear coughs and sneezes everywhere, and the number of suffering students keeps climbing.
A close friend of mine, however, survived the fierce battle, despite the fact that he was surrounded by “victims〞 all day long. I am not surprised, because we’ve been friends for ages, and he seldom gets sick. The following is his advice.
71. ______.
A long-distance run in the morning is a good choice. It not only makes you energized for the rest of the day, but also helps to develop good health for the rest of your life.
72. ______.
Eat a variety of food every day, because different foods contain different nutrition: rice provides sugar, meat contains energy and fat, vegetables are rich in vitamins and cellulose, etc. Fruit and yogurt are also highly recommended, because the former is known for its Vitamin C, and the latter, calcium, which plays a vital role in the growth of our bodies.
73. ______.
Water is one of the most important components of our bodies, and is essential for our metabolism. We often run out of water without notice, so we should drink water even if we are not thirsty. Besides, when we get sick, we should drink more, because when our bodies fight against viruses, it causes us to lose water.
74. ______.
Many diseases like the flu are very likely to spread among people, so we should keep away from those who are sick. During class breaks, go out and get some fresh air to keep away from the viruses, and open windows to get better air circulation.
75. ______.
A person in low spirits is more likely to get sick. A happy mood not only helps people defend against viruses, but also is a best cure for most illnesses.
Follow the above rules, and you’ll become as strong as a bull! Remember: diseases and viruses are not that frightening as long as you are well prepared.

B.Get plenty of exercise
