Today we are going to talk about whether we need to “s tates should eliminate their arsenals of nuclear weapons”. In my opinion, my answer is “YES”. My reasons are as follow.
Reasons:
1.It is not safe to save a lot of nuclear weapon.
2.Nuclear weapons are too destructive and
therefore unnecessary.
3.It costs too much to make the nuclear weapons
and be sure these things` safety.
4.It is not allowed in the UN.
Reason 1: It is not safe to save a lot of nuclear weapon.
Nuclear is an extremely unstable substance. I think of the people know the accident in Soviet Union and Japan in 1986 and in 2011. The former one is caused by the workers` carelessness., while the latter one is caused by the earthquake. Neither of them is preventable for the government.
The result is also incredible. The accident of Chernobyl resulted in 31 deaths within three months of the
accident, sixty to eighty hundred thousand deaths within 15 years, one hundred and thirty thousand people suffering from various degrees of radiation diseases, and more than 11 hundred million people in 30 km area were forced to evacuate. This indirectly led to the disintegration of the Soviet Union.
If the uranium pollutes the ocean, it may be more serious. The uranium will follow the sea water travelling to the whole world. It will lead to more people getting the disease.
Reason 2:Nuclear weapons are too destructive and therefore unnecessary
As we all know, most of the battles in ancient are distinguished from the justice one and the unjust one. Most of the battle are served for the politics and business. Both of them do not want to destroy the other without necessity.
The arms before nuclear weapons is just for getting things. They make the country have more land, resources and so on. For example, the battle between India and Pakistan is caused by Kashmir. Both of them want to get it. But if India use nuclear weapons to destroy Pakistan`s
army, it will also affect the availability of the land. Then they both get nothing. Pakistan lose the army, and India lose valuable nuclear weapons.
Maybe you will ask me how can me make the world peace without nuclear weapons. Limited resources and unlimited demand are contradictory. There are many battles in the world at this time. If the country is in danger, nobody will be afraid of the nuclear weapons. In the other hand, most of the big countries in the world have the ability to produce nuclear weapons. And the other small countries will not begin the battle as usual.
Reason3:It costs too much to make the nuclear weapons and be sure these things` safety.
In the other hand, the nuclear weapons are also very expensive. That is why these small countries which can produce nuclear weapons.
The two nuclear weapons originally produced by the United States were $900 thousand and $ 1 million.
You may think that it is not expensive for a big country such as U.S. and EU. But as I have said before, it is important to keep the nuclear weapons safe. It is much more than producing them. In the military budget
approved by the U.S. Congress, all nuclear weapons are maintained at about $40 billion in one of the checking progresses. That would cost an average of $6.6 million a year for each bomb.
So, as you can see, it is expensive to keep the nuclear weapons, especially when the countries like U.S. have such a big amount of the nuclear weapons.
Reason4: It is not allowed in the UN.
There are laws in the countries, there is also laws between the countries. UN is responsible for writing these laws. They also have the duty and power to supervise. If a country does not enforce the laws given by the UN, it will be strongly condemned. It's also immoral.
The NPT have been passed in 1968 and 179 States parties decided by consensus to extend the Treaty indefinitely in 1995.。
