MQ ELC Offshore Placement Test
Test Procedures for Agents
Representative agents for Macquarie University English Language Centre (ELC) are asked to follow the test procedures below when administering ELC’s offshore placement test to prospective students.
Test Conditions
∙The test should be conducted at the agent’s office in a quiet place with adequate light and desk space for the student to work.
∙If more than one student is taking the test at one time, there should be at least 1.5 metres between each student desk. There should also be an invigilator in the room for the entire length of the test.
∙The test is a paper-based test and, therefore, does not require a computer.
The Test
∙ELC’s offshore placement test is a written test. The student is asked to write an academic style essay of 250 words in 40 minutes.
∙There is no reading, listening or speaking component to the test.
Test Administration
∙The student should be given no more than 40 minutes to complete the test. It is acceptable for the student to complete the test in under 40 minutes.
∙The test should be handwritten, not typed, by the student.
∙No dictionaries or any other aid materials are allowed.
∙The student’s mobile phone should be turned off during the test.
∙Under no circumstances should the student receive any assistance from any person during the course of the test.
∙The test is free. There must not be a fee charged to take the test. If it is discovered that an agent is charging a fee for the test, that agent’s agreement with Macquarie
University and ELC will be in serious jeopardy.
Test Results
∙The agent should scan and email the student’s test paper to ELC at
elc.admissions@.au within 24 hours of test administration.
∙ELC will respond to the agent with a recommendation of weeks of English required for the student within five (5) working days of receipt of the test.。
