成语故事英文
Once upon a time in ancient China, there was a great general named Zhao She. He was known for his bravery and strategic mind in battle. The story of his most famous
victory is told in the idiom "paper tiger."
During the Warring States period, Zhao She was leading his troops against a formidable enemy. The enemy forces were large and fierce, and many of his soldiers were afraid. To boost morale, Zhao She decided to use a clever ruse.
He ordered his men to create a giant tiger out of paper and bamboo. This "tiger" was painted with such detail that it looked lifelike from a distance. The soldiers then placed the paper tiger at the front of their camp, making it visible to the enemy.
When the enemy scouts saw the tiger, they reported back to their commander that Zhao She's forces had a fearsome beast on their side. The commander, believing the tiger to be real, became fearful and ordered his troops to retreat.
This is how the idiom "paper tiger" came to be, which means something that appears threatening or powerful but is actually weak or insubstantial. It serves as a reminder that appearances can be deceiving, and that true strength lies not in outward show but in inner resolve and strategy.。
