The Emperor:Who am I, do you know? Ah-ha! I’m the Emperor.
Narrator: The Emperor had a different suit for each hour of the day. He spent hours every moment getting dressed, and changed again and again from morning to night.
The Emperor: Am I handsome?
Courtier (Polite applause and murmured comments of approval): You’re right. Very handsome, very handsome.
The Emperor: Shut up! I don’t like these clothes now. They are so ugly! I want something new! Courtier (Polite applause and murmured comments of approval): Something new! Something new!

Narrator: News of the Emperor spread to far away and finally came to the ears of two bad cheats. The Chamberlain: (Coming to the Emperor happily):Your Majesty! There are two great weavers waiting outside.
The Emperor (Looking at the mirror):Shut up! There are so many great weavers here and there! The Chamberlain: Your Majesty! This is quite different! There’s something magical this time! The Emperor: Something magical? I love new things.
The Chamberlain: And if someone is unfit for his office, he cannot see the cloth.
The Emperor (Turning from the mirror): Cannot see? Sounds interesting. Show them in!
Cheat 1,2: (Left, right, Left, right, Left, right,…One, two!)
Cheat 1,2: Your Majesty! We are weavers.
Cheat 2: We have something very special to show you!
The Emperor: Hm…
Cheat 1: The cloth is gold, silver and rainbow colored, and glows all the time.
Cheat 2: The cloth is invisible to anyone who is unfit for his office.
(The Emperor was enchanted. He must have an outfit from this new cloth. )
The Emperor(Saying to himself): These must be wonderful clothes! Then I can tell the clever from the foolish!
The Emperor: This cloth must be made for me at once. There’s a gr eat procession in the city.
Can the clothes be ready in time?
Cheat 2: Of course. But, your Majesty! We need a lot of fine silk, gold, silver and a lot of money to buy things for the cloth.
Cheat 1: And we may start our work at once.
The Emperor:Give them everything!
All the Courtiers: Yes, Your Majesty!
Cheat 1,2: ((Music) “Hobbies” Do you have any hobbies? Yes, I do. Yes, I do. I like going shopping. Cheat 2: No!
Cheat 1: Oh, yes! (Music)Do you have any hobbies? Yes, I do. Yes, I do. I like making clothes.
Oh, me too, Oh, me too.)
Scene II(第二场)
The Emperor: Chamberlain, go and see how the cloth is going on.
The Chamberlain: Yes, sir.
(The Chamberlain knocked at the door and waited.)
Cheat 1,2: Come in, please! (They had been expecting someone soon!)
The Chamberlain (Staring at the empty looms): The Emperor has sent me to check the cloth. Cheat 2(Holding out nothing to the Chamberlain.): Is it not beautiful? See the luster, feel the softness!
The Chamberlain(Saying to himself): Um... Oh my god! Am I foolish? Am I unfit for my office?
No, I’m not stupid! I will not let anyone know!
Cheat 2: Oh wise Chamberlain. Now you can see why it is magical.
Cheat 1: Only clever men can see the cloth.
Cheat 2: Most people can only see an empty loom.
Cheat 1: But a clever man like you can see our wonderful cloth.
The Chamberlain(Not wanting to look stupid):: Of course! It is really marvelous! Marvelous! Cheat 1,2: Oh, you are so wise! (击掌Yeah!)
The Chamberlain (Back to the Emperor): Your Majesty! The cloth is really marvelous. Marvelous! The Emperor:Wow, That’s great! Give them more gold, silver and the best silk.
The Chamberlain: Yes, sir!
The Emperor(Pacing up and down): But, I can’t believe him so much. The procession is coming. I can’t wait any longer. Now I will go and see myself..
(He went to the weavers' room, followed by half of his court. He threw the doors open, and saw the empty loom.)
Cheat 1,2(Sitting up and working hurriedly):Your Majesty! The clever Emperor! See our wonderful cloth!
