第一节读后续写(满分25分)

Craig watched his old sister, Riley, and her friend Liz race up and down the lake on their skates, avoiding other hockey(曲棍球) players. Their skate blades looked like silver smoke. When the game was over, the girls skated up to the bench where Craig was sitting. Craig asked Riley what skating felt like.
“When I go really fast, I feel like I’m flying,” she said.
That’s silly, thought Craig. Flying is something birds do in the air, not somethin g people do on ice skates.
Then he watched Riley go back out on the ice. She skated around and around the edge of the lake with her arms pumping and her scarf trailing behind her. Soon she went so fast that her arms looked like wings and her scarf looked like a feathery tail. Maybe skating really was like flying.
When Riley sat down to take her skates off, Craig said, “I wish I could fly.”
Riley retied her skate laces and crouched next to Craig. “Get on my back,” she said, and Craig did. Riley started skati ng, but Craig didn’t feel like he was flying. It just felt like a shaking piggyback ride.
“You’re too heavy,” Riley said. “I can’t go fast when I’m carrying you.” She skated slowly back to the bench. Craig got off her back. “Even if you could go fast, I wouldn’t be flying.” he said sadly. “I need skates to fly.”
Riley didn’t say anything on the walk home, but a few days later she asked Craig if he wanted to go skating.
“To watch?” he asked. “No, to skate,” she said cheerfully. “Mom and I found a pair of my old skates. They might fit you.” The skates were a little big, but when Riley stuffed newspaper in the toes, they fit. Craig couldn’t stop smiling. He didn’t want to take them off, but he had to so he could walk to the lake. Riley and Liz went with him. They carried their hockey sticks and a wooden chair. Hardly had they got to the lake when Craig put his skates back on and Riley helped him onto the ice.

Then she put his hands on the back of the chair.“Hang on this and you won’t fall.” she said. His feet trembling, Craig tried to move cautiously with his hands grabbing the chair firmly. Riley and Liz cheered him on as he started to move forward. But Craig slowly lowered his head, frowning, as he inched along and he even couldn’t skate without the chair. This wasn’t like flying at all. Rea lizing his frustration, Riley patted his shoulder and comforted, “It takes practice. Someday you will.” Then she winked at Liz and whispered something to her.
After a while, each girl took one of Craig’s hands.“Someday you’ll fly on your own,” Riley said. “But today Liz and I will help you.” They started skating, pulling Craig with them. The girls went faster and faster, and so did he. Craig felt the wind touching his face merrily with brilliant sparkle in his eyes. When he looked down, his skate blades looked like a silver light. “I’m flying!” he yelled, and the words blew away in the wind like a bird’s happy song.

Sometimes things may seem beyond our effort, but keep on and you will find beautiful views in front of you.
I was on my second outdoor experience rip that every student had to go on. That year, we had a choice of what difficulty level we wanted: one through five. My friends and 1 had agreed that one would make us seem lazy and that challenging ourselves would make for a good story. In choosing level two, we believed that it would still be a fun experience.
We were quickly proven wrong.
The further we drove into the White Mountains, the higher the walls on either side of the winding highway grew. I was still in awe of the mountains I had seen so many times before, but I couldn't help feeling my heart shaking with anxiety. Soon I would have to leave the school bus that brought 50 students out into the wilderness like every year before.
My group consisted of my friends, Riley and Ann, and six extremely athletic boys. We arrived at base camp lodge(k)first. Aner putting things aside and rearranging our bags. we made our way out into the wilderness.
The three of us girls were questioning if this was really a level two. The path was unbelievably steep and rocky toward the top of the mountain where the first hut was located. We were practically jogging in an attempt to keep up with the boys ahead of us. Before the trip, we were told to take breaks as often as we needed to drink water, but that wasn't helping our pounding hearts and heavy breathing as much as it should have.
Then, 30 minutes into the most difficult hike the three of us had ever done, Riley slipped and landed on her knee. After a few moments, we turned back down the mountain as it was decided
that Riley could not make the trip with us.
We sat on the grass outside the lodge where we had started while Riley was brought inside to join the level one group. Ann and I exchanged breathless glances, our cheeks red and wet with sweat.

In the development of mobile communication technology from 1G to 5G, Chinese mobile communications have made great advancements. For example, China has accounted for 21 items in the 5G standards that have been drawn up for the world, while the United States, Europe, Japan and South Korea possess 9, 14, 4 and 2 items respectively. In particular, the Polar Code of Huawei has been accepted as the control channel code by 3rd Generation Partnership Project, which is regarded as a significant
breakthrough for Chinese mobile telecommunication in the international standard formulation.
It is obvious that 5G is able to provide technological support for equipment connectivity and the transmission(传输)o f massive amounts of data and this will enable the internet of things, driver-less vehicles, virtual reality and smart cities. For example, it will enable smart homes that make life easier for people, and effectively help ease traffic pressure in cities and create a safer driving experience. Moreover, 5G can realize integrated connection(集成连接)and remote control of equipment, personnel and production, which will greatly improve the production efficiency and intelligent manufacturing level of enterprises.
It is believed that China holds favorable conditions in three aspects for the development of 5G in the future. First, the consumer market is huge in China. It is estimated that Chinese 5G users will account for 40 percent in the world, which means it would give huge market for 5G commercialization. Second, with the high maturity of 4G technology, China has the world's largest and most extensive 4G networks, and with its 40 percent of 4G base stations in the world, the equipment will provide a solid foundation for the construction of 5G networks. Third, China has displayed complete mobile communication industry chains, which, therefore, provide an advantageous industry ecological environment for the commercialization(商业化)of 5G.
Owing to its technological advantages and huge market potential, it is expected that Chinese 5G will transform to powerful industrial advantages and economic dynamics(经济动力). While sharing the benefits of its 5G technology with the
people of the world, China still needs to make continuous efforts to maintain its leading position in 5G.

阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
I’m originally from Orange County, California, where I had the pleasure and honor of serving as a Newport Beach ocean lifeguard for five seasons. Whenever I could, I got shifts working
the Point. If you wanted to save lives, that's where you worked. The Point was known for its massive rip currents((激流)So, late in a shift, I was working Tower 15. Two blocks to my right was another guard named Mike, working Tower 17. I'd known Mike for a number of years. Mike had a rough upbringing. You can tell just by looking at him. He has a number of really frightening tattoos (纹身),and his bald head shows the scar he got from a broken beer bottle. Maybe he wasn't the friendliest guard on the beach. I admit, I didn't really get along with Mike. But everything he lacked in friendly appearance and social skills, he more than made up for in lifesaving ability.
He called me over the pho ne and said, “Hey, I got a couple kids. I gotta go give’em a warning. Keep an eye on us. ”
I said, "Sure, " and hung up.
Anytime you get out of your tower, you're supposed to let somebody else know, in case a situation develops. And sure enough, as soon as he hung up the phone, a rip was snapped up under these two kids, and they're getting sucked out. Mike saw it before it's happening, and he's running full speed toward the ocean. I scanned the water. All I saw was two small. noses bobbing (上下浮动)in the water.
I dropped my binos(望远镜)and I called in and said," "Double rescue 17-he's out. I'm going.
" Mike was already punching through the surf line. By now, the mother of the two kids realized what's happening. She's on her feet and screaming.

Mike reached the kids—a brother and sister around eight or nine years old. He got to the boy first, and when he turned to the
girl, he had to reach down into the water and catch her by the hair to pull her back up. Mike swam sideways out of the rip current into the clear water and started bringing them in. When I reached their mother, Mike was in waist-deep water. These kids were so exhausted that t hey couldn’t walk, and so Mike’s carrying them. He’s got one under each arm. I turned to their mom and said, “Hey, it’s gonna be OK. They’re safe.” I saw the terror start to drain out of her.
Then the mother glanced back and got her first good look at Mike, as well as his tattoos. And a crazy thing happened. I saw a new kind of panic wash over her as though there’s some new, equally dangerous threat on her kids’ lives because of the tattoos on Mike’s arms. She rushed up to Mike and snatched her kids and turned up the beach. Not even a thank-you. Mike just glanced at me, shrugged, and jogged back to his tower. As I jogged back to my tower, I promised mys elf I’d never let my own fear or prejudice prevent me from recognizing a hero only because I don’t see fri endly appearance in him.

第二节:概要写作(满分25分)

Children are starting to carry cell phones at younger ages. In a recent study, 22% of kids in primary school reported having their own cell phone compared with 60% of tweens and 84% of teens. Like many parents, you may wonder whether your child is ready for a cell phone. As you might imagine, there are different attitudes towards it.
Many parents consider safety as the main reason for giving their child a cell phone. They want to be able to reach their child whenever they need to. They also want to give their child the
security of being able to reach them whenever he needs to. This is especially true if your child is home alone after school or walks home alone, says Barbara Greenberg, PhD, a clinical psychologist in Fairfield County, CT.
However, if your child has a cell phone, he has access to websites that may be inappropriate. He may see content that is violent and could be related to death or sex. "Lots of kids have fantasies in their mind about things they don't understand/* Greenberg says. There's also the issue of inadequate sleep, Greenberg says. “Kids with cell phones are likely to stay awake late into the night playing games and texting with friends.” Cell phones also bring the risk of cyber-bullying(网络欺凌)."Before, once you got indoors you were safe," Greenberg says. “But with cell phones and social media, nobody is ever safe from bullying."
Your child is ready for a cell phone when he can sit down with you to create guidelines for its use, Greenberg says. "If the/re unwilling to make this list, they aren't ready." For most kids, this happens around age 12 or 13, she says. Parents should make the decision, not well-meaning grandparents or friends who gift your child with a phone. "Ask yourself whether your child has good judgment and a history of good decision-making/ Greenberg says. If he is immature or tends to make bad decisions, he isn't ready.

Opinions on whether kids are ready for cell phones are divided among parents. (要点1) Many parents’supporting attitude attributes to the safety provided by cell phones with which children can be reached especially during the separate time. 第二节:概要写作(满分25 分)
阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60 词左右的内容概要。
If you're worried that too much “screen time” could badly influence your child's intelligence, new research suggests you might be right. By analyzing the data gathered from over 4,500 U.S. kids aged 8 to 11 between 2016 and 2017, Jeremy Walsh, a postdoctoral fellow with the CHEO Research Institute in Ottawa, found that too much “screen time” could be harming your child's intelligence. Kids with the sharpest intellects spent less than two hours a day on their cellphones, tablets and computers, coupled with 9 to 11 hours of sleep and at least an hour of physical activity.
Too much screen time could be affecting kids' ability to focus, especially if they are switching between apps on a device or between different screens at the same time, Walsh suggested. “One leading hypothesis (假设)is that much time on screens
is spent multitasking, using multip le apps or devices at once,” he said. “This can interfere with a child's ability to focus and keep interest on a task. It can be damaging the building blocks for good cognition (认知).”
Sleep is important for brain development, since that's when the brain reorganizes itself and grows, Walsh added. Besides, exercise has been shown to increase blood flow to the brain and oxygenation of brain tissues, and increases the connectivity of networks in the brain. Too much screen time could lead to a “cascade” effect w here kids don't get enough sleep and then are less active during the day. “You can see how this would have an impact on brain health,” Walsh said.
What should parents do? Walsh advised setting firm rules regarding the use of screens, including how long children are using the screens, the kinds of apps they are using and how many screens they are using at once. Concerned parents also should preview games or apps before letting their child play, seek out more interactive (交互的)options that engage the child's mind, and u se parental controls to block or filter content and limit screen time.
