If you’ve ever noticed uneasiness in your puppy around an unwelcome houseguest, you might be onto something. A new study found that dogs can really sense bad behavior in humans, and are less liely to accept treats from those people.
For the study, which was published in the January edition of Neuroscience & biobehavioral Reviews, researchers set up a scene in which a dog watched his owner
try to open a container while two actors were on set. In a series of three tries one
of the actors would help the owner open the container, respond neutrally(中立地),or refuse to help open the container. The other actor responded passively in all three tries. At each end of the try, both actors would offer the dog a treat at the same
time. In the tries where the woring actor had responded either helpfully or neutrally,
the dog was equally liely to accept a treat from either of the two actors. In the
third try where he had responded rudely, the dog was more liely to choose the passive actor.
James Anderson, a psychologist who wored on the study at yoto University, told the New Scientist that the dogs most liely have a similar ability to notice bad behavior
in humans as human babies do.“If somebody is behaving badly, they probably end up
with some sort of emotional reaction to it,”he says. Babies have been shown to begin to mae these types of connections around age one.
So while you can’tas your dog’s opinion every time you’re facing a difficult situation, you can consider his judgment of your new friends when thining about whether they are ind or not. Of course,we’11 suggest doing so according to the situation
and your own consideration, but it wouldn’t hurt to tae note!
21.What does the new study mainly show?
A. Dogs can read humans’ thoughts.
B. Dogs are unwilling to accept treats from people
C. Dogs can sense unfriendliness of humans.
D. Dogs feel uneasy around strange people.
22.In the third try, why was the dog more liely to choose the passive actor?

B. His treats appeared more attractive.
C. His action stayed the same during three tries.
D. The dog considered the other actor rude.
23.What does the underlined word ”they” in Paragraph 3 refer to?

B. Dogs.
C. Babies.
D. Psychologies.

I’d lie to share a little story with you about something that happened when I was
four. I remember it clearly. Our loving family dog was nearing the end of his life.
My father piced him up and put him in a little bed we had made for him. Our dog, my
companion, whom we had cared for, bit my father when he attempted to help him. How
could he? Why? I couldn’t understand it. I didn’t lie him anymore.
I hadn’t thought about that story for a long time but something that happened last wee brought it bac to me. I went to spea with a friend. When I noced on the door,
I met in an instant an angry loo and a few harsh(尖刻的)words. When the door was slammed(砰地关上)in my face, I stood there shoced, and in a rush, I was reminded of
my dog bit my father 20 years ago or so. What brought that story bac was that same
feeling of betrayal.
Both stories taught me something the net day. You see, when I got up in the morning and was told my dog had died, it became clear to me that he must have been in great
pain. For him to have bitten a family member, he could not have been himself. Much
the same for the other story when I learned that my friend’s wife had just left him.
We are all beings of our environments, our opinions and feelings. And all of those things can cause you to say and do things that can’t be understood by those who are
not in the same situation with you.
If you meet someone either behaving out of character or acting i n a way that doesn’t seem to fit the situation, put out your hand and be patient when you thin it is least possible for him to do so. You may turn around a story that has a sad ending simply
by your actions.

in good shape for you to choose.

garbage trucs, special garbage trucs come and pic up recyclables. However, in many
countries around the world the responsibility is left up to the individual to recycle. Therefore, it must be made a priority (优先考虑的事) in society so we can continue
