There are many things that parents can do to enhance (强化) their children’s education, even if they do not have much time or do not speak English.
Getting back home after a long day’s work does not mean it is time to rest. For those who have schoolag e children,it implies (意味着) or it should imply a duty to review their homework and help them go over what they have learned at school that day.
Teachers and experts agree that parents have a lot to do for their children’s education, and that the help they can provide them with is priceless, even in those cases where both parents work, have more than one job or do not even speak English well.
While it is true that in the United States there is a tendency (趋势) to leave
the duty of education entirely in the hands of the teacher;it is also true that parents are children’s first teachers, and that the circumstances (情况) and the education system there are different.
That is why parents’ involvement is especially important in those cases where a child needs greater attention and support.Although the six hours children spend at school every day may seem enough, they are less than what is needed for a student’s enough progress.
If you are one of those parents who have not been actively involved in your children’s education and are wondering why they do not get higher grades,it is time for you to think that your help can make a big difference.
56.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?

C.Some experts believe that what parents do at home is not very important.
D.Six hours’ school life may seem too long for children to study. 57.What’s the main idea of the fourth paragr aph?
A.American parents leave the education of children entirely to teachers.
B.Teachers should offer children what they need both at school and at home.
C.American parents should also pay attention to helping their children after school.
D.American educat ion system doesn’t need parents to help children at home. 58.From the passage we know that________.
A.parents’ help at home is less important than the help of teachers at school B.the writer doesn’t hope parents get involved in the study of the children C.children can get enough education at school with their teachers
D.children sometimes need parents’ help with their lessons after school 59.What is the best title for this passage?
A.Be your children’s best teacher
B.Do your children waste time at school?
C.How to help your children at home?
D.A tutor at home means a great deal
B
It was the first snow of winter—an exciting day for every child but not for most teachers.Up until now,I had been old enough to dress myself, but today I would need some help.Miss Finlayson,my kindergarten teacher, had been through first snow days many times, but I think she may still remember this one.
I managed to get into my wool snow trousers. But I struggled with my jacket because it didn’t fit well.It was a handmedown from my bro ther, and it made me wonder
why I had to wear his ugly clothes. At least my hat and scarf were mine, and they were quite pretty. Finally it was time to have Miss Finlayson help me with my boots(靴子).
In her calm, motherly voice she said,“By the end of winter, you will all be able to put on your own boots.” I didn’t realize at the time that this was more a statement of hope than of confidence(信心).
I handed her my boots and stuck out my feet.Like most children,I expected grownups to do all the work. After much pushi ng,she managed to get the first one into place and then, with a sigh, worked the second one on too.
I announced,“They’re on the wrong feet.”
She struggled to get the boots off and went through the joyless task of putting them on again.
“They’re my brother’s boots,you know,” I said.“I hate them!”
Somehow, from long years of practice, she managed to act as though I wasn’t an annoying(烦人的) little girl. She pushed and pushed, less gently this time. With a greater sigh, seeing the end of her struggle with me,she asked,“Now,where are your mittens(连指手套)?”
I looked into her eyes and said,“I didn’t want to lose them,so I hid them in the toes of my boots.”
60.The little girl was more satisfied with her ________.
A.trousers B.jacket
C.boots D.hat
61.Miss Finlay son had difficulty with the girl’s boots mainly because ________.
A.the girl got them from her brother
B.the girl put something in them
C.they were on the wrong feet
D.they did not fit the girl well
62.Why does the author say Miss Finlayson would remember that first snow day?
A.Because the little girl was in her brother’s clothes.
B.Because it was the most exciting day of the winter.
C.Because the little girl played a trick on her.
D.Because the little girl wore a pretty scarf.
63.We can learn from the text that Miss Finlayson ________.
A.was losing confidence in the little girl
B.gradually lost patience with the little girl
C.became disappointed with the little girl
D.was getting bored with the little girl
C
Most parents of teenagers who go online say they set time limits on the kids’ Internet activity. They also try to monitor(监视) it,in part by placing computers in open areas.Parents also don’t keep away from technical tools.Slightly more than half of parents with online teens have filtering(过滤) software installed on home computers. On the other hand, parents who are themselves online are more likely to set rules about when or for how long their kids can log on at home.
Setting rules about television watching, cleaning up,doing the dishes and going online is an easy next step for parents to take. However, time limits can result in family members’ competing to use a single computer rather than an effort to restrict kids’ usage.Kids who have such rules at home are also more likely to access the Internet at school without any rules.
In addition,62 percent of parents of online teens say they check the sites their children visit, though only a third of teens who use the Internet at home believe their parents do so.And any reasonable techsavvy(精通技术的) teens know how to erase their online footsteps. Many kids are now getting online through cell phones or other tools.
Time limits and computer location won’t replace the need to educate kids about Internet use and safety, but some people, just like me,doubt whether time limits or similar restrictions(限制) do much. They set no limits and use no filtering software on their children, even letting them connect wirelessly from the roof when they want. The Internet is going to be their life. This is how they are going to earn their living and how we communicate.
64.How many ways that parents monitor their children’s Internet use are mentioned in the passage?
A.One. B.Two.
C.Three. D.Four.
65.Considering parents will monitor their Internet use, many children________.
A.will only go to the Internet at school
B.are tired of the Internet use
C.place the computers in their own room
D.erase their online footsteps after their use
66.Which of the following will be the best title for the passage?

C.Internet Use Is Popular Among Kids
D.Internet Use Is Unsafe for American Kids
67.The writer’s attitude to the limit of children’s Internet use is “________”
A.unclear B.disagree
C.agree D.active

Recent studies have shown that exercise is good to both your physical strength and brain.A new study finds that people become smarter after starting a running program.
In their study, the researchers had seven young people start a running program consisting of running 30 minutes, two or three times a week for at least 12 skills before and after the 3month running program.
After 12 weeks of running, scores on all of the tests increased greatly in the runners,as did their reaction times(反应时间) in completing the tests, but the scores began to fall again if the runners stopped their training.
The results could have suggestions for old people as well.According to these researchers, old people who started a 4month exercise program also showed it may help doctors find a way to use exercise and running to help old people and those with Alzheimer’s disease improve their memory and other mental skills. 72.Which is the best title for this passage?
A.Running May Make You Smarter and Healthier

第Ⅱ卷
第四部分写作(共两节,满分35分)
第一节任务型读写(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,根据所读内容在表格中的空白处填入恰当的单词。

注意:每个空格只填一个单词。

Telephone, television, radio, telegraph and the Internet all help people communicate with each other. As a result, ideas and news of events spread quickly all over the world. For example, within seconds, people can know the results of an election in another country. An international football match comes into the homes of everyone with a television set. News of a disaster such as an earthquake or a flood can bring help from distant countries within hours. Help is on the way. Because of modern technology like the satellites that travel around the world, information travels fast.
How has this speed of communication changed the world? To many people, the world has become smaller. Of course this does not mean that the world is actually physically smaller. It means that the world seems smaller. Two hundred years ago, communication between the continents took a long time. All news was carried on ships that took weeks or even months to cross the ocean. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, it took six weeks for news from Europe to reach AmericA. This time difference infl uenced people’s actions. For example, one battle, or fight, in the War of 1812 between England and the United States could have been avoided. A peace agreement had already been signed. Peace was made in England, but the news of peace took six weeks to reach AmericA. During these six weeks, the large and serious Battle of New Orleans was fought. Many people lost their lives after a peace treaty had been signed. In the past, communication took much more time than it does now.
There was a good reason why the world seemed so much larger than it does today.

What do you think of New York?John Lennon said that New York is the capital city of the world and it certainly feels that way.But in the centre of this exciting, noisy, polluted city there is a place to find peace and quiet.A short walk from busy Fifth Avenue in Manhattan you’ll find the Central Park. The Central Park is the green heart of New York City and over 25 million people come here each year to escape the city.People run, swim, climb or simply sit and read a book in the huge park’s different scenery. And it’s not just for people.Lots of rare birds have made their home in the park and there are legends of big cats hiding in the dark trees.Although it looks completely natural, the park is manmade, created over 150 years ago.Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux designed the park at a time when the city was a very crowded, dirty and unhealthy place to live in.They wanted to make a place where rich and poor people could find fresh air in the dirty city.It does the same job today. As a friend of mine always tells me,“Life in New York would be impossible without the Central Park.”
