My Seventh Grade English Book
Hi there! I'm a 7th grader and I just finished working through the English textbook for the second semester. It was a lot of work but I learned so much cool stuff! Let me tell you all about the different units we covered.
Unit 1 was called "A Brighter Future" and it was about setting goals and working hard to achieve your dreams. We read stories about kids who overcame challenges through perseverance. My favorite story was about a girl named Maya who really struggled with math but kept practicing until she finally got it. I could relate because math is hard for me too sometimes. This unit taught me it's important to never give up on your goals.
The next unit was "Noble Souls" and it focused on doing good deeds and being a kind, caring person. One of the readings was about kids volunteering at a local animal shelter. It looked like such fun getting to play with the puppies and kittens! I
definitely want to do some volunteering over the summer break. This unit reminded me how good it feels to help others.
Unit 3 was called "Friendship" and you can probably guess what it was about - being a good friend! We learned about the importance of trust, loyalty, and supporting your friends through hard times. One of the stories was about a boy who stopped hanging out with his best friend because he was jealous that the friend made a new friend too. In the end, the boy realized he was being silly and they were able to stay best buds. Friendship drama can be so complicated sometimes! This unit made me appreciate my own awesome friends.
Next up was Unit 4: "Magic of Nature." We learned all about the incredible beauty of the natural world through cool descriptions of places like the Amazon rainforest and the African savanna. My favorite part was when we had to go outside and use our senses to make observations about nature around us. I wrote a poem about the fluffy white clouds rolling across the bright blue sky. Nature really is magical!
Unit 5 had the funny name "April Fool's Day and Other Tricks" and it was basically all about jokes and pranks. We read stories about silly stunts kids pulled and learned some idioms about tricking people. My best friend and I tried to prank our
English teacher by putting a fake spider in her desk drawer but she wasn't fooled at all! This unit was a blast and made class feel like playtime.
The serious-sounding "Manners and Customs" was the focus of Unit 6. This one taught us about the proper etiquette and traditions of different cultures around the world. I thought the section on formal Japanese tea ceremonies was super interesting. We even got to practice doing one ourselves with real green tea! As fun as it was to learn about other customs, I don't think I'll be doing any fancy tea rituals at home. Way too much work! Overall this unit made me appreciate the diversity of human cultures.
Unit 7 was called "Caring Communities" and highlighted the importance of people in a community coming together to make it a better place. We talked about things like neighborhood clean-up days, food drives, and community gardens. For our project, we had to come up with our own ideas to improve the community and I suggested starting a program where kids read books to residents of the local nursing home. Hopefully it becomes a real thing! This unit inspired me to start looking for ways I can make a difference.
The final unit was "Learn from the Past" which focused on historical events and what we can learn from them to create a
brighter future. The excerpt from Anne Frank's famous diary was really moving. We also read first-hand accounts from people who experienced events like the Great Depression and immigration to America through Ellis Island. It made history feel much more real and personal instead of just facts and dates. This unit left me feeling grateful for the sacrifices of those who came before and motivated to make the world better going forward.

My Life as a Middle School Student
Hi there! My name is Lily, and I'm a 7th grader at Riverdale Middle School. Let me tell you all about my life as a middle school student – the good, the bad, and the funny!
Unit 1 was all about daily routines. Well, my daily routine is a real juggling act! I wake up at 6:30 a.m. sharp, get ready for school, and head out the door by 7:45. Classes start at 8:30, and we have six periods before lunch. My favorite class is probably science – we get to do a lot of cool experiments! After school, I have basketball practice on Mondays and Wednesdays, and art club on Thursdays. By the time I get home, I'm exhausted! After
dinner, it's time for homework, which always seems to take forever. I try to get to bed by 10 p.m. to get enough sleep for the next day. Phew, I'm tired just thinking about it!
Unit 2 covered food and nutrition. I have to admit, I'm not the biggest fan of healthy eating. My favorite foods are pizza, burgers, and fries – you know, all the good stuff! But my mom is always nagging me to eat more veggies and fruits. She packs my lunch every day, and I can always count on finding an apple or a banana in there. We also learned that in Finland, students don't get homework until they're teenagers. I wish our school had that policy – I'd have so much more free time!
Unit 6 covered shopping and money. I don't get an allowance, but I do try to earn some spending money by doing extra chores around the house. With that money, I like to go to the mall with my friends and shop for clothes, accessories, and other fun stuff. The only problem is, I can never seem to save up enough! Everything is so expensive these days. My parents are always telling me to be more responsible with my money, but what do they know? They're just adults.
In Unit 7, we talked about technology and social media. I have to say, I'm pretty much glued to my phone 24/7. I use apps like Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok to keep up with my friends and see what's going on in the world. I've even started my own YouTube channel where I post vlogs and crazy viral challenge videos. It's become a huge part of my life – maybe a little too huge, if you ask my parents! They're always trying to cut down my screen time. But hey, technology isn't going anywhere, so we might as well embrace it, right?
Finally, Unit 8 was about careers and future goals. At this point, I have no clue what I want to do when I grow up. A doctor?
A lawyer? A professional athlete? Your guess is as good as mine! All I know is, I want to do something that I'm passionate about and that makes me happy.
