Dear Professor Huang,
I write for information regarding the forthcoming International Education Conference to be held at your prestigious university.
I am a first-year student from Nanjing University majoring in Education, and have a particular interest in the teaching of work place skills and employer’s perceptions of new graduates.
I plan to attend the conference and would like information about the contributory speakers, the content of their talks, and their research interests. However, although I have been living in Nanjing in the past four years, I am unfamiliar with Nanjing. Therefore, if you could please also send the details of how to get to your university it would make my arrangements much easier.
In addition, if you could let me have details of the accommodation that is available I would be more than grateful.
I look forward to receiving the information and meeting you in person.
Sincerely yours,
Frank
A pleasant state of mind
Happiness can be described as a positive(实在的事物, 确定的) mood and a pleasant state of mind.
A good education and income are usually considered necessary for happiness. But the rich are not necessary to be happier than the middle-income group or even those with very low incomes. People with a college education are somewhat(稍微) happier than those who did not graduate from high school; It is believed that this mainly because they have more opportunities to control their lives. Yet people with a college education may be less happy than those with on college education. Moreover, having good health can be very important to people because they can feel happy and have energy to do what they would like to do. Nevertheless(然而), poor health does not rule out(排除) happiness except for the dying or those in great pain. It should be noted that people quickly get used to what they have, and they are happier when they feel they are increasing their level no matter how little it has be improved..
The best formula(客套话) for happiness is to be able to develop the ability to tolerate(宽恕) frustration(挫败), to have a personal involvement(缠绕) and commitment(承诺), and to develop self-confidence and self-esteem(尊重).
Laughter
Laughter is surely one of humanity’s(人道, 人性) greatest gifts, for the ability to laugh--- to appreciate the pleasure or absurdity(荒谬) in daily activities---- allows people, young and old alike, to keep problems in perspective(洞察力). Children are natural laughers. In situations, both appropriate(适当的) and inappropriate , the chuckles(咯咯地笑), giggles(傻笑), and outright peals(洪亮的) of laughter of children can emphasize their innocence(清白), their joyful ignorance(无知) of the problems of the world. Levity(轻率) among adults is, unfortunately, far less common, but it is equally welcome. How fortunate are the adults who can react to potentially(潜在地) frustrating(使人沮丧的) situations--- a collapsed(倒塌的) tent(帐篷), a split(劈开) seam(缝) in a pair of pants(裤子), a surprise guest--- and see the sheer(全然
的) absurdity(荒谬) of their attempts to maintain absolute control. Laughter expresses pleasure, eases(缓和) tension, and lifts the spirit,. It is a gift we should all share more often.。
