Knowing how to communicate well needs very personal attention between you and another person, we should face it. Is there a better way to learn how to communicate successfully? Yes, there is. Please follow the basic steps below.
Relax and breathe.
Whether it’s a business meeting or a first date, the first thing you must do in order to communicate is to relax.
When you relax, you are in control. You control your reactions(反应) and your reactions do not control you. Breathing is central to relaxation. Take a few deep breaths and your body will begin to be more relaxed. This will help you apply what you have already known about how to communicate well.
Think and you will be prepared.
Have you heard the old saying “Think before you speak.”? W ell, it is true. By thinking ahead about how the conversation might flow(流畅), you will be better prepared, more relaxed and more confident.
Follow the flow of the conversation.
If you are uncomfortable, being silent will only make it worse and make the other person uncomfortable as well. So when all else fails, you should follow through with small talk until a common topic appears.
A good way to keep a conversation going is to ask the other person questions. People love to talk about themselves and if you do this, they will keep the conversation going, thinking very highly of you. Learning good communication skills is not something out of reach. If you make an effort, you will succeed.
1.If you want to communicate successfully, what should you do first?
A.Follow the conversation.
B.Relax yourself fully.
C.Take as many breaths as possible.
D.Prepare the conversation well.

A.Relaxation will not help you control your reactions.
B.You will control the conversation by thinking hard.
C.Silence will make the other person feel comfortable.

3.What’s the meaning of the underlined sentence “Learning good communication skills is not something out of reach.”?
A.You will be good at communication if you reach out your hand.
B.Good communication skills can be learned if you try.
C.Not all people can learn good communication skills.
D.Communication skills can be improved easily.
4.What is the best title of the passage?

Have you ever considered all the English expressions that include words about clothes? Le t’s have a look.
People wear pants to cover the lower part of their bodies. We sometimes say that people who are nervous have ants in their pants. Sometimes, people may get caught with their pants down. They are found doing something they should not be doing. And, in every family, one person takes
control. Sometimes a wife tells her husband what to do. Then we say she wears the pants in the family.
Pants usually have pockets to hold things. Money that is likely to be spent quickly can burn a hole in your pocket. Sometimes you need a belt to hold up your pants. If you have less money than usual, you may have to tighten your belt.
I always praise people who can save their money and not spend too much. I really take my hat off to them. Yet, when it comes to my own money, I spend it at the drop of a hat, which means I instantly spend it.
Boots are a heavy or strong kind of shoes. People who are too big for their boots think they are more important than they really are. I dislike such people.
My father is an important person. He runs a big company. He wears a suit and tie, and a shirt with sleeves that cover his arms. Some people who do not know him well think he is too serious and never shows his feelings openly. But I know that my father wears his heart on his sleeve. 1.What is this passage mainly about?
A.What pants mean in English. B.Some special English expressions. C.Some funny English expressions. D.Some expressions related to clothes. 2.Which of the following expressions can show someone is nervous?

In high school I was very shy, content to hang around with my small group of friends and to concentrate on my courses. I was quickly labeled a "brain." I did so well that by the end of senior year I had perfect grades and enough college credits to give up an entire quarter of coursework. But in early June of senior year, the principal called me into his office. He asked me to give a speech at graduation. I was surprised to look at him, my heart thumping. This was the reward for my hard work? I murmured something and fled the office, blaming myself for staying away from physics, a subject sure to have broken up my perfect record.
I finally agreed to a compromise. I would share the honor with five other students. I agreed to introduce my friend Judy, who would then give her own, full-length speech.
Graduation day soon arrived, I’d been practicing my speech for days, and I had it memorized. The first half hour of the ceremony passed in a blur, and then my moment came. My name was announced. I managed to reach the stage without falling down. I faced my classmates. My voice trembled a little, but mostly it was clear and strong. But within seconds, I was done and heading back to my seat. I accomplished something I’d never dreamed of — I spoke in front of hundreds of people.
Although I didn’t realize it at the time, the successful completion of that speech gave me the confidence to take part in class at college, to give oral reports, and to eventually break free of my shyness. I never would have chosen to give a speech at graduation —or ever. But I’m glad I did. I no longer hesitate when I’m faced with the prospect of doing som ething I feared. I know it may very well turn out to be one of my shining moments.
1.Why was the writer called a "brain"?
A.She was the most intelligent student.
B.She was the head of her small group.
C.She was a bookworm all the time.
D.She did more coursework for good grades.
2.What can we learn from the second paragraph?
A.She ruined her health by studying hard.
B.She got the reward as was expected.
C.She was grateful for giving a speech.
D.She wasn't good at physics at school.
3.How did the author feel at the beginning of the graduation speech?
A.Excited. B.Moved.
C.Scared. D.Embarrassed
4.What did the speech bring to the author at last?
A.She had nothing to fear in life,
B.She won enough college credits.
C.She got rid of her sense of shyness.
D.She desired to become a speaker.

Very old people do raise moral problems for almost everyone who comes in contact with them. Their values —this can’t be repeated too often — are not necessarily our values. Physical comfort, cleanness and order are not necessarily the most important things. The social services from time to time find themselves faced with a flat with decaying food covered by small worms, and an old person lying alone in bed, taking no notice of the worms. But is it interfering (干涉) with personal freedom to insist that they go to live with some of their relatives so that they might be taken better care of. Some social workers, the ones who clear up the worms, think we are in danger of carrying this concept of personal freedom to the point where serious risks are being taken with the health and safety of the old.
Indeed, the old can be easily hurt or harmed. The body is like a car, it needs more mechanical maintenance (机械维修,保养) as it gets older. You can carry this comparison right through to the provision of spare parts. But never forget that such operations are painful experiences, however good the results will be. And at what point should you stop to treat the old body? Is it morally right to try to push off death by seeking the development of drugs to excite the forgetful old mind and to activate the old body, knowing that it is designed to die? You can't ask doctors or scientists to decide, because so long as they can see the technical opportunities, they will feel bound to give them a try, on the principle that while there’s life, there’s hope.
When you talk to the old people, however, you are forced to the conclusion that whether age is happy or unpleasant depends less on money or on health than it does on your ability to have fun. 1.What does the passage mainly tell us?
A.The values are different between the old and the young.
B.The moral problems raised by old people.
C.The personal freedom for the old.
D.Old people’s viewpoint on life.
2.We can know from the first paragraph that ________.
A.very old people would like to live alone to have more personal freedom
B.very old people are able to keep their room clean
C.very old people like to live with their children
D.social services have nothing to do with very old people
3.According to the author, which of the following is right?
A.The older a person, the more care he needs.
B.Too much emphasis has been put on old people’s values.
C.The human body can’t be compared to a car.
D.It is easy to provide spare parts for old people.
4.The underlined word “it” in the last paragraph refers to “________”.
A.their money or their health
B.the conclusion you come to
C.your talk to the old people
D.whether age is happy or unpleasant
【答案】
1.B

On my first day of high school,I asked an eleventh grader where my class was. And he told me it was “on the fourth flo or,next to the pool.” I found out five minutes later that we don't even have a fourth floor and there's no pool either! Besides that,I didn't have any trouble with the older kid.
I think the biggest difference between middle and high school is the homework load (工作量) and size of the school. I went from maybe fifteen minutes of homework a night to several hours,so I had to learn how to make full use of time! Our class size is around 550,but joining in clubs, sports, music, and other activities at school makes it easier to get to know people in every grade.
The best advice I can give about the years you spend in high school is to learn things for yourself, not just to get a good grade. There have been so many tests that I've prepared for the night before, gotten an A,and not remembered anything later. I've changed that this year, and I enjoy school so much more. Don't take easy classes just to have a simple year. If you have a choice between chemistry and sports, the first will prove to be a lot more useful!
While drinking and smoking might be present in some middle schools, they're also around in high school. I have a lot of friends who promised they'd never drink or smoke, but are now partying every weekend. If you have “fun” and spend your nights wasted instead of s tudying, you will regret it when you're applying for (申请) college. The “friends” who say you're a loser for not partying are really not your friends at all. It's hard to see your closest friends grow apart and go in different directions, but don't follow their footsteps. Create your own path in life and make your own decisions.
1.What does the author think of high school?
A.There are very few activities.
B.It's hard to meet new people there.
C.It requires hard work.
D.There isn't enough time for homework.
2.The author advises high school students to________.
A.get ready for tests the night before
B.give up sports
C.choose useful classes
D.try their best to get good grades

【分析】
本文是一篇说明文。
文章主要讲述了一些对高中生的建议。
1.细节理解题。
根据“I think the biggest difference between middle and high school is the homework load (工作量) and size of the school.”可知高中的功课量很大,所以他要求我们更加努力。
故选C。
2.细节理解题。
根据文意“Don't take easy classes just to have a simple year. If you have a choice between chemistry and sports, the first will prove to be a lot more useful”可知建议高中生要选择有用的课程,故选C。
3.推理判断题。
根据首句“On my first day of high school,I asked an eleventh grader where my class was. And he told me it was “on the fou rth floor, next to the pool.””他问别人自己的教室在哪里可以判断作者是一名高中生。
故选A。
4.主旨大意题。
文章最后一段句首“While drinking and smoking might be present in some middle schools”和“If you have “fun” and spend your nights wasted instead of studying, you will regret it when you’re applying for (申请) college.”可知,如果你享乐并且浪费夜晚时间而不是学习,当你申请大学的时候,你会后悔的。
