Many people like the feeling of the gentle wind in spring. Many like to see the falling leaves dancing in the wind in autumn. But sometimes, when the wind becomes a storm, it can be very destructive.
A series of such storms struck the US last month and caused very serious damage and human pain.
Every year, major storms cause many problems around the world. There is nothing people can do to stop these powerful forces of nature. But new techniques are helping scientists to predict how, when, and where big storms will happen. The more exact scientists' warnings are, the better people can prepare for the storms.
Predictions are improving."We've gotten better over the years, especially the last few years," says Phil Klotzback, a scientist at an American university. How is a storm formed? Even if scientists know where a storm will happen, winds can suddenly change, carrying the storm to a new direction."For a hurricane to happen, conditions have to be just right," Klotzback says.First, the ocean water needs to be warm enough so that it evaporates and rises into the air.As it rises, the vapor cools and turns back into liquid. This process gives off heat. This produces energy like an engine that causes winds to increase. It drives the formation of a hurricane. If wind speeds reach 40 miles per hour, the system is called a "tropical storm"〔热带风暴〕, and it gets a name.At 75 miles per hour, it becomes a hurricane.
Hurricanes that hit the US start when a thunderstorm forms off the coast of Africa.Storms also develop over tropical waters in other parts of the world.
On average, 60 or 70 storms form off Africa every year.About 10 of them get names. There are usually about six hurricanes. Two tend to be very big, with winds of 115 miles per hour or higher. The hurricane season lasts from June to November.Ninety percent of all hurricanes hit in August, September, and October.

More than 20,000 drivers and front seat passengers are killed or seriously injured each year.At a speed of only 30 miles per hour it is the same as falling from a third floor window.Wearing a seat belt saves lives; it reduces your chance of death or serious injury by more than half. Therefore drivers or front seat passengers over 14 in most vehicles must wear a seat belt.If you do not, you could be fined up to $50.It will not be up to the drivers to make sure you wear your belt. But it will be the driver's responsibility to make sure that children under 14 do not ride in the front unless they are wearing a seat belt of some kind.
However, you do not have to wear a seat belt if you are reversing your vehicle; or you are making a local delivery or collection using a special vehicle; or if you have a valid medical certificate which excuses you from wearing it.Make sure these circumstances spply to you before you decide not to wear your seat belt.Remember you may be taken to court for not doing so, and you may be fined if you cannot prove to the court you have been excused from wearing.

Don't Allow Your Weaknesses to Limit You
We all have weaknesses and strengths - no matter who we are.Sometimes the weaknesses seem to outweigh the strengths and sometimes it's the other way around. Some people get sick easily. Some struggle to manage their finances properly. Some people are hopeless communicators and struggle with relationships.
Many people leave it and accept it as just bad luck - but not everyone. Some people are facing huge limit.Brett Eastbum has no arms or legs and yet is an inspirational speaker and and still manage to achieve tremendous things. They rise above their weaknesses and do not allow them to limit their possibilities.
I attended a school prize-giving ceremony not so long ago and the guest speaker was Andrew Becroft, who had a severe stutter as a child.Instead of allowing this to limit him, he chose to work hard to overcome it.He is now the Principal Youth Court Judge for New Zealand. Not only did he become successful, but he did so in a profession where he had to speak in front of others regularly-where his weakness is front and center for all to see.If he hadn't worked on his speaking ability, it would have been very limiting to his life and career prospects.
You can find similar people on New Zealand News channels, and I suspect the same in other countries. There are a number of presenters and reporters who have a noticeably unusual manner of speaking.Perhaps they have a peculiar accent or pitch of voice. These people have succeeded in spite of what would appear to be a weakness in their profession.
Lots of people face far more significant limitations than you do.They may be missing limbs or are born into extreme poverty. But no matter what the limitation, you will always find people who have overcome it.
68.What does the underlined word "outweigh" mean?
A.to be more important than B.to weigh more than C.to be out of weight D.to be under-weight 69.What kind of people who are in trouble are not mentioned in this passage?
A.patients B.merchants C.trainers D.communicators 70.Why does the writer speak of Brett Eastbum?
A.To tell others that Brett has no arms or legs.
B.To tell others that Brett is an inspirational speaker.
C.To tell others that Brett has achieved tremendous things.
D.To support his argument.
71.Which of the following about Andrew Becroft is NOT right according to the passage?

D.His weakness is no longer limiting to his life and career prospects.

注意:每个空格只能填一个单词。

Since the beginning of human evolution, men have migrated 〔迁移〕across continents in search of food, shelter, safety, and comfortable weather.People still move for these reasons, but new reasons for human migration are arising, such as job relocation and overpopulation.Three million migrants are moving from poor countries to wealthier ones each year, and increasingly, their destination is a neighboring country in developing parts of the world.People are moving within the developing world for the same reasons as they migrate to wealthier nations.People from poor countries are going to less poor countries, fleeing wars and conflicts. They are also responding to population pressures because some countries are densely populated, and they often have high population growth. Those people need to go somewhere else. There are three main reasons why people move. The basic categories and percentages are as follows, according to the Current Population Surveys 〔CPS 〕
Family-related reasons account for26.3%, including changes marital〔婚姻的〕status, establishing a household and other family reasons; work-related reasons 16.2%, including job transfer, retirement and other job-related reasons; housing-related reasons 51.6%, including new and better houses, bette neighborhood, cheaper housing and other housing reasons; the remainging5.9% of other reasons are attending college, the change, of climate and health reasons.Americans have been migrating south and west for decades in search of better job opportunities and warmer climates. They have also been moving the places a little far from cities, in search of bigger yards and houses, lower crime rates and better schools.Inl950, nearly a fifth of the population lived in the nation's 20 largest cities. In 2006, it was about one in ten. That's why many American people say, "Big Cities Shrink as People Move South, West."

第二节书面表达〔总分为25分〕
There are different tests in school especially in Grade Three. The students in Grade Three not onlyhave quizzes but also have to take frequent monthly exams. When they go to the second term they willhave to experience simulated exams.
Exams have both advantages and disadvantages. As for students, they can find out shortcomings intheir study and become aware of their present level in the whole class/school.The results of tests alsohelp students to work hard for better grades in the final College Entrance Exams. But too frequentexams may result in problems.Students may have severe competition over scores and no longer be asfriendly as before. As for teachers, while they can see clear how their
students master the knowledge, they suffer a lot too. It's no easy work to design a good test paper, to grade and to analyze the students'answers.
Tests are exams for teachers and students.Only by giving and taking them properly can they be goodfor Grade Three students.

M:You look rather pale.Aren't you feeling well?
W:Not very.I was sick most of the weekend.I didn't sleep very well.
M:What seems to be the matter? Is it flu?
W:No, I think it's something I ate.We ate at the new restaurant last night, and I must have eaten something that didn't agree with me.
M:Was it that new restaurant over on Flower Street?
W:As a matter of fact, it was.Why do you ask?
M:Because Jerry was there last week and had the same kind of problem. He was sick the next day, too.
W:That's interesting.Maybe the health authorities should investigate the place.
M:That's what I think. Two people with similar problems in such short time can't just be a coincidence!

Today I'm going to tell you something about table manners in different countries.I think youalready know that people in different countries have different ways of doing things.Something that isrude in one country may be quite polite in another country. For example, in Britain you mustn't liftyour bowl to your mouth when you are having some liquid food. And in Japan you needn't worry aboutmaking a noise when you drink it.It shows that you are enjoying it.But that is considered bad mannersin Britain.
In Britain we try not to put our hands on the table at all during a meal.In Mexico, however, guestsare expected to keep their hands on the table throughout a meal. But it is in the Arab countries that wereally must be careful with our hands. You see, in Arab countries you mustn't eat with your left hand. This is considered to be very impolite. So, what should you do if you visit another country? Well, youneedn't worry. You can ask the native people there to help you or just watch carefully and try to do asthey do, not as you do at home.。
