“If you want to see a thing well, reach out and touch it!”
That may seem a strange thing to say. But touching things can help you to see them better.
Your eyes can tell you that a glass ball is round. But by holding it in your hands, you can feel how smooth and cool the ball is. You can feel how heavy the glass is. When you feel all these about the ball, you really see it. With your skin, you can feel better. For example, your fingers can tell the difference between two coins in your pocket. You can feel a little drop of water on the back of your hand, too. You can even feel sounds against your skin. Have you ever wanted to know why some people like very loud music? They must like to feel the sounds of music.
All ch ildren soon learn what “Don’t touch!” means. They hear it often. Yet most of us keep on touching things as we grow up. In shops, we touch things we might buy: food, clothes. To see something well, we have to touch it. The bottoms of our feet can feel things, too. You know this when you walk on warm sand, cool grass or a hard floor. All feel different under your feet.
There are ways of learning to see well by feeling. One way is to close your eyes and try to feel everything that is touching your skin. Feel the shoes on your feet, the clothes on your body, the air on your skin. At first, it is not easy to feel these things. You are too used to them!
Most museums are just for looking. But today some museums have some things to touch. Their signs say, “Do touch!” There you can feel everything on show.
If you want to see better, reach out and touch. Then you will really see!

To become a doctor in the United States, students usually attend four years of medical school after they complete college. Then these young
doctors work in hospitals for several years to complete a training program called a residency(医生实习期).
These medical residents provide hospitals with needed services in return for not much pay. They work under the supervision(管理) of medical professors and more experienced doctors. Medical residents treat patients . they carry out tests. They perform operations. They complete records. In hospitals with few nurses, residents also do work formerly
done by nurses. Some medical residents work one-hundred or more hours in a single week. They often work for more than thirty-six hours at a
time before they can rest. Critics (批评家) of this system say medical residents work too long and do not get enough rest. They say these young doctors may be too tired to perform their medical duties effectively. Now, the government will limit the number of hours of work that residents can work. Most doctors in training will be limited to eighty-four hours of work each week. They will have work periods of no more than twenty-four hours at one time. They will have ten hours of rest between work periods.
Medical residents will have one day each week when they do not have to work. Any work they accept outside their hospitals will be limited .Experienced doctors and medical professors will closely
supervise the residents to make sure they are not too tired to work. Many medical residents welcomed the work limits. Others, however,
said the new policy may interfere with patient care and their own medical education.

Tips for a Green Vacation
Ah, summer is almost upon us, and that means most American families are longing madly to get out of town for a week.
Never mind that the economy is in the tank, or that you’ll use just under half of your vacation days at once —it’s time to go to the beach! But wait… before you put the kids in that minivan(小面包车)and speed off: there’s a greener way.
Don’t Travel as far
In one of those special instances environmentalism saves you a ton of money, the simplest piece of advice is to stay close to home, or, even stay at home, which most Ameri cans aren’t likely to follow: if you live in a major city, there are probably loads of museums, parks, baseball games, and restaurants that you haven’t been to. But if you MUST travel — try to stay within 100 – 150 miles from home. Your wallet, and the planet, will thank you.
Find a Green Hotel
This may seem like a strange task, but it’s not — check the environmentally friendly hotels. They’re standing ready to assist in your eco- traveling and committed to reducing waste on the planet.
Take the Train
Rail travel isn’t quite dead in the U.S , which is good, because it features some of the lowest pollution of any form of transport. In order of most polluting, it goes: airplanes, cars, trains, and coach buses —but I don’t believe many people think of Greyhoun d(灰狗巴士)as a good way to get around anymore.
Buy Local Souvenirs
This is hard, seeing how we’re nationally addicted to plastic toys, but buy local goods when you travel. Supporting a local artist doesn’t just do more for the economy of the place that you’re visiting, and it also cuts the cost of transporting all of those mass- produced souvenirs. And besides, taking home art, or cooking ingredients from a place you can’t get at home, is far more interesting.

A. stay at home

C. go to museums
D.go out of town
70. What’s the main purpose of this passage ?
A. To tell people how to save money in summer.
B. To invite people to travel in America in summer.
C. To give advice on how to spend a green vocation.
D. To advise people to by local souvenirs.

Recently, in the hope of earning both money and social experience, I became a door-to-door salesman. I once read a saying: “If somebody wants something of you, you will be treated as warmly as spring, but if they don't you may be treated as coldly as winter.” You may consider this an exaggeration(夸张), but if you are a salesman, it is clearly correct.
You would never have found it to be so true if you hadn't been a salesman. You needn't stand doubtful looks and unfriendly comments; you needn't listen to something completely wrong and nod to say that it was quite right; you needn't always keep patience and a smile; you needn't repeat the same sentences over again; you needn't talk to somebody you dislike…
I did this work for a month; then I decided to give it up. Apart from the above reasons, I found I was paying too much attention to the job and thus sacrificing my study time. The latest test result proved that my grades were getting lower. Even worse, I hadn't enough time to join my classmates in college activities . Sometimes I felt lonely and unhappy because of both my study and my part-time job. Now I don't think it is worth doing such a thing even though I was earning money .
Newspapers and magazines often publish stories about good students who do part-time work and keep high scores in class. But according to my experience, part-time work can have some strong bad effects on study.
Most students don't see the relationship between study and work in a correct way. In my opinion, if it isn't must for financial reasons, students should be cautious about taking up a part-time job.
76. What caused the writer to give up his part-time job?_________
A. Too much attention to it and his grades getting lower.
B. He often missed some college activities.
C. Sometimes he felt tired and unhappy.
D. All the above.
77. Which of the following has the closest meaning to the underlined word “sacrificing”? _________
A. Losing.
B.
Lasting. C. Using. D. Getting.
78. The writer thought _________ .
A. to do part-time job was necessary
B. part-time jobs had good effect upon study
C. it hard to plan study and work correctly
D. part-time jobs were good for students
79 Who should take part-time jobs according to the text above?_________
A. Every college student.
B. Those who want to get study experience.
C. Those in great need of money.
D. Those from very rich families.
80.What is the main idea of the second paragraph ?
A. The advantages of being a salesman.
B. The disadvantages of being a salesman.
C. A salesman should be patient.
D. A salesman should be friendly.

第三部分书面表达
第一节阅读表达(共5小题;每小题3分,满分15分)
阅读下面短文并回答问题,然后将答案写到答题卡相应的位置上(请注意问题后的字数要求)。

My father died when I was nine months old, making my mom a single mother at the age of eighteen. While I was growing up, we lived a very hard life. We had little money, but my mom gave me a lot of love. Each night, she sat me on her lap and spoke the words that would change my life, “Kemmons, you are certain to be a great man and you can do anything in life if you work hard enough to get it.”
At fourteen, I was hit by a car and the doctors said I would never walk again. Every day, my mother spoke to me in her gentle, loving voice, telling me that no matter what those doctors said, I could walk again if I wanted to badly enough. She drove that message so deep into my heart that I finally believed her. A year later I _____________ ——walking on my own!
Later my mom lost her job. Then I left school to support the both of us. At that moment, I was determined never to be poor again.
Over the years, I experienced various levels of business success. But the real turning point occurred on a vacation I took with my wife and five kids in 1951. I was dissatisfied with the second-class hotels available for families and was angry that they charged an extra$2 for each child. That was too expensive for the average American family. I told my wife that I was going to open a motel (汽车旅馆)for families that would never charge extra for children.
Not surprisingly, mom was one of my strongest supporters. She worked behind the desk and even designed the room style. As in any business, we experienced a lot of challenges. But wit h my mother’s words deeply rooted in my soul, I never doubted we would succeed. Fifteen years later, we had the largest hotel system in the word-Holiday Inn. In 1979 my company had 1,759 inns in more than fifty countries with an income of $ 1 billion a year.
81. Who played the most important role in making the writer back to school again?
82. What caused Kemmons to start a motel by himself? (no more than 10 words )
83. What is the main idea of the last paragraph ? (no more than 10 words )
84. Fill in the blank in the second paragraph to complete the sentence.
85. What led to Kemmons’ success according to the passage? ( no more than 10 words )
