The most important thing to keep in mind when going into high school is to be yourself. Besides, I don't know what your middle school was like, but high school teacher will not care about things such as how much homework you already have in one night. It's best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need to.

Eddie, Aged 20
When I started high school, I was really nervous too, especially since I had been homeschooled all through middle school and didn't really know anyone. I suppose the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will bee easier before you know it.
David, Aged 19
I'm not going to lie. The first day is kind frightening. But you'll get used to it. Don't be afraid of anyone; upperclassmen will pick on you more if you let them know you’re afraid. Just take it easy. Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly. After the first week it's really not bad at all. Don't worry.

As a boy, he caused much trouble for his parents. He used to play jokes on all of his friends and neighbors. He didn't like to go to school, and he constantly ran away from home. should hope they have daughters because daughters are twice as attentive as sons overall.
The research by Angelina Grigoryeva, from Princeton University, found that, while women provide as much care for their elderly parents as they can manage, men do as little as they can get away with and often leave it to female family members.
Her analysis of the family networks of 26,000 old Americans concluded that gender is one of the most important things that decide whether or not people will actively care for their elderly parents.
In a paper presented at the annual conference of the American Sociological Association in San Francisco, she concludes that simply having a sister makes men likely provide less care. Using data from the University of Michigan Health and Retirement Study, a study which has been tracking a cross-section of over 50s for the last decade, she calculated that women provide an average of 12.3 hours a month of care for elderly parents while men offer only 5.6 hours.
"Sons reduce their relative caregiving efforts when they have a sister, while daughters increase theirs when they have a brother."
"This suggests that sons pass on parent caregiving responsibilities to their sisters."
In the UK, the 2011 Census showed that there are now around 6.5 million people with caring responsibilities, a figure which has risen by a tenth in a decade.
But many are doing so at the risk of their health. The census showed that those who provide 50 hours or more of care a week while trying to hold down a fulltime job are three times more likely to be struggling with ill health than their working counterparts who are not carers.
28. According to the passage, what’s the most important factor to predict if people will actively care for the elderly?
A. Education.
B. Gender.
C. Career.
D. Ine.

A. People should give up their job to care for the elderly.
B. Many care providers work longer hours than others.
C. Many care providers have potential health problems.
D. People shouldn’t pass on caring responsibilities to others.
31. The author develops the text by _______.

It is no secret that physical activity is necessary to a person’s well-being. Because children are continuously developing physically and emotionally, they are especially affected by the benefits of activity. Former First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move initiative reports that nearly one-third of US children are overweight or obese, and that “schools are a key setting for kids to get their 60 minutes of play with moderate activity, given the significant portion(部分) of time they spend there.”
Physical education programs in schools directly benefit students’physical health. Regular exercise promotes muscles and bone development. In addition to participating in physical activity, students in P.E. learn the fundamentals of a healthful lifestyle, the building blocks upon which they can develop into healthy, knowledgeable adults.
Though the lack of attention on P.E. is often justified as an opportunity to spend more time in the classroom, studies show that physical activity contributes to improved academic performance. Regular activity during the school day is strongly associated with higher concentration levels. A statewide policy in North Carolina requires that children from kindergarten to eighth grade participate in 30 minutes of physical activity each day.
Activities in P.E. help children develop healthful social interactions. From a young age, children learn cooperation through group activities and form a positive sense of identity as part of a team. Such group activities are continually important as children grow older. The International Platform
on Sport and Development states that sport has been used as a practical tool to engage young people in their munities through volunteering, resulting in higher levels of leadership and munity engagement among young people.
The benefits of P.E. to a child’s mental health are both plex and prehensive. Improved physical health, academics and social interactions all contribute to good mental health. Physical activity sets the stage for a good night’s sleep, provides more energy to participate in hobbies and interact with others.
32. The first paragraph implies that ________.
A. children are being much lazier nowadays
B. some schools have forbidden physical activity
C. most parents are dissatisfied with school education
D. schools must pay more attention to physical education
33. Physical education is ignored in a way because ________.
A. children dislike taking physical activity
B. schools are worried about children’s safety
C. students should have more time for study
D. less sporting equipment is available to school children
34. Which is NOT a benefit of P.E.classes?
A. They assure you of a successful future.
B. They keep your mind in a good state.
C. They help you focus on your studies.
D. They do good to your social skills.
35. What is the author’s possible attitude towards the policy in North Carolina?
A. Sceptical.
B. Favorable.
C. Ambiguous.
D. Objective.

Do you have a hobby? Something you look forward to spending your time with? Something you love to do? 36 Or making model airplanes. Sketching. Or making useful things out of waste material. It could be a musical instrument that you love playing. Or singing and dancing.
There are many things that a hobby can give you, apart from an enjoyable time. Sashay was a shy boy but through his interest in model airplanes he learned the value of sticking to a task until it was finished. His model airplane club brought him to get into touch with similar souls. 37 Having a hobby helps you relax and get away from the routines of school. 38 You really need this well deserved one, too! It gives you focus, self-dependence, confidence and builds your personality. This is an opportunity to lose yourself in an enjoyable activity, away from the pressure of school, so at the end of it, you feel relaxed and yet, mentally charged.
Your hobby defines you. 39 And it also shows you what you are good at, and how far you can go, when you apply yourself.
40 .For a hobby is: Happiness: something which you look forward to doing. Opportunity: to nurture and develop your special and unique skills and celebrate them. Believe in yourself: makes you understand your strong advantages and improves your confidence. Best in you: brings out your best—for in each one of us there is a best that is only ours. YOU gives you a unique character, and makes you YOU!
A. So go ahead and develop a hobby.
B. It gives you a break.
C. It proves your ability.
D. Hobbies show your character.
E. It shows your special skills.
F. It could be collecting something.
