Several years ago, most young Britons wanted a career in law, to be a doctor, or, if they were creative enough, to take up singing. But today, things stand differently.
According to a survey by Tesco Mobile, a UK telecoms company, the “dream job” of young people aged between 16 and 25 in the UK is a video blogger, or “vlogger”. The survey, carried out among 1,002 people, found that as much as 40 percent of them put vlogger as their number one choice on a list of ideal careers. The single factor contributing to this change is undoubtedly the internet and social media. They have made it so much easier to reach a global audience, without having to enter a career in show business in the traditional way.
“In years that have gone by, the biggest stars were recommended and trained by the Hollywood studios; now, anyone with a computer camera can become an idol,” a Tesco Mobile spokesperson said in a news
r elease. “From fashion to comedy, these self-made stars document their hobbies to an adoring fan-base. Vloggers are the big stars of today because they are normal people interacting with their fans about everyday life.”
However, what people see is only the bright side of being a vlogger and they ignore the fact that only those who are successful gain fame and fortune. For every success there are a hundred others who never get off the starting block. There are the dreams that come true and the dreams that are destined to remain dreams. This is why despite the popularity of vloggers, some young people chose to follow careers that don’t necessarily earn them fame, but allow them to make good use of the internet to share their hobbies.
Young Israeli David Leshaw, for example, runs a business called the Finishers Club. It’s an online platform for runners to keep a record of their races. He told the career website Zippia that his job allows him to express his passion, and is always a learning experience. And that’s enough for him.
24. Why do so many young Britons choose to be vloggers?
A. Because being vloggers is an ideal career.
B. Because vloggers can become idols easily.
C. Because being vloggers is popular nowadays.
D. Because vloggers are bound to be rich and famous
25. What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. Most vloggers can achieve their dreams
B. One should realize the dreams one by one.
C. Vloggers who are successful can gain fame and fortune
D. Not all the vloggers have accomplished the dreams
A. call on young people not to be vloggers
B. explain the popularity of vloggers
C. help readers take a correct attitude
D. state the advantages of his career
27. What is the author’s attitude toward being vloggers?
A. Objective
B. Critical
C. Positive
D. Negative

Art museums are places where people can learn about various cultures. The increasingly popular “design museums” that are opening today, however, perfo rm quite a different role. Unlike most art museums, the design museum shows objects that are easily found by the general public. These museums sometimes even place things like fridges and washing machines in the center of the hall.
People have argued that design museums are often made use of as advertisements for new industrial technology. But their role is not simply a matter of sales--it is the honoring of excellently invented products. The difference between the window of a department store and the showcase in a design museum is that the first tries to sell you something, while the second tells you the success of a sale.
One advantage of design museums is that they are places where people feel familiar with the exhibits. Unlike the average art museum visitors, design museum visitors seldom feel frightened or puzzled. This is partly because design museums clearly show how arid why mass-produced products work and look as they do, and how design has improved the quality of our lives. Art museum exhibits, on the other hand, would most probably fill visitors with a feeling that there is something beyond their understanding.
In recent years, several new design museums have opened their doors. Each of these museums has tried to satisfy the public’s growing interest in the field with new ideas. London’s Design Museum, for example, shows a collection of mass-produced objects from Zippo lighters to electric typewriters to a group of Italian fish-tins. The choices open to design museums seem far less strict than those to art museums, and visitors may also sense the humorous part of our society while walking around such exhibits as interesting and unusually attractive toys collected in our everyday life.
28. Showcases in design museums are different from store windows because they .
A. show more technologically advanced products
B. help increase the sales of products
C. show why the products have sold well
D. attract more people than store windows do
29. The author believes that most design museum visitors .
A. do not admire mass-produced products
B. are puzzled with technological exhibits
C. dislike exhibits in art museums
D. know the exhibits very well
30. The choices open to design museums .
A. are not as strict as those to art museums
B. are not aimed to interest the public
C. may fail to bring some pleasure to visitors
D. often contain precious exhibits
31. The best title for this passage is .
A. The Forms of Design Museums
B. The Exhibits of Design Museums
C. The Nature of Design Museums
D. The Choice Open to Design Museums
D
Research has clearly proved that home background is very important for school achievement. TIMSS reports a strong relationship between pupils' science achievement and student background, measured by the amount of books at home or speaking the language of the test at home. An analysis result showed that home background resulted in the difference in academic achievement.
On average in the EU countries, home background accounted for 16% of the student performance difference in science. However, poor performance in school does not automatically follow from a disadvantaged home background. According to the results, many disadvantaged students spent less time studying science in school than their more advantaged peers. They often ended up in schools where there is very little choice and no opportunity to take science courses. Therefore, learning time at school should be considered when designing policies to improve performance among disadvantaged students.
Results also showed that interest in science appears to be influenced by student background. Students with a more advantaged social-economic background or those who had a parent in a science-related career were more likely to show a general interest in science and to identify how science may be useful to them in the future. This will help them achieve more progress in science.
Gender(性别) differences in average science performance are rather small compared with other basic skills assessed by international surveys. Yet, it is important to take into account that overall gender averages are influenced by male and female student distribution across different subjects. In most countries, more females attend higher performing.
As a result, in many countries, gender differences in science were substantial within particular programs, even if they appeared small overall. In addition, there were gender differences regarding scientific abilities and certain attitudes. On average females were stronger in understanding scientific issues, while males were stronger at explaining phenomena(现象) scientifically. Males also performed substantially better than females when answering physics questions.
32. According to the research, students’ achievement is related with the _______.
A.sc hool management
B. teachers’ teaching ability
C. family background
D. school measure system
33. What does the underlined word mean in the third paragraph?
A.Ignore.
B. Mistake.
C. Explore.
D. Realize.
34. Where do gender differences lie according to the research?
A.Science achievement.
B. Personal interest.
C. Specific subjects
D. Effort distribution.
35. Which of the following can be the best title of the passage?
A.WHAT AFFECTS ACIEVEMENT?
