第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)

Driving to a friend’s house on a recent evening, I was attracted by the sight of the full moon rising just above my friend’s rooftop. I stopped to watch it for a few moments, thinking about what a pity it is that most city people --- myself included --- usually miss sights like this because we spend most of our lives indoors. My friend had also seen it. He grew up living in a forest in Europe, and the moon meant a lot to him then. It had touched much of his life.
I know the feeling. Last December I took my seven-year-old daughter to the mountainous jungle of northern India with some friends. We stayed in a forest rest house with no electricity or running hot water. Our group had campfires outside every night, and indoors when it was too cold outside. The moon grew to its fullest during our trip. Between me and the high mountains lay three or four valleys. Not a light shone in them and not a sound could be heard. It was one of the quietest places I have ever known, a bottomless well of silence. And above me was the full moon, which struck me deeply.
Today our lives are filled with glass, metal, plastic and fiber-glass. We have television,
cell phones, electricity, heaters and ovens and air-conditioners, cars, computers. Struggling through traffic that evening at the end of a tiring day, most of it spent indoors, I thought, “Before long, I would like to live in a small cottage. There I will grow vegetables and read books and walk in the mountains. And perhaps write, but not in anger. I may become an old man there, and wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled and measure out my life in coffee spoons. But I will be able to walk outside on a cold silent night and touched the moon.”

When it comes to success in business and success in life, there are few qualities as important as confidence.
People naturally have different levels of confidence. Some have a higher level of confidence than others do, but even those whose confidence is lacking can learn to build their level of confidence and reach their most important goals.Increasing self confidence is one of the most common reasons people give for seeking the help of psychologists and other professionals.
One of the many places where a greater level of confidence is useful is in the workplace. We all know how difficult it can be, for instance, to ask the boss for a raise. This process can be extremely difficult for those who lack confidence in their own abilities. After all, if you are unsure about your own abilities, how will you ever convince your boss that you deserve more money for the work you do?
Even if you are not asking for that big raise, having plenty of confidence in your abilities is important to success. If you are certain of your abilities, chances are that those around you, whether they are your coworkers, your colleagues or your superiors, will see that confidence, and that will help to assure them that you are the best at what you do.
Being thought of as the person to go to, and being seen as an expert in your chosen field, is naturally very important to success on the job.If you can make yourself the person people go to for guidance and advice, you will help to protect yourself
from the ever present danger of downsizing(裁员).After all, if you are a recognized expert at the office, you will be regarded as an indispensable member of the team.Having a high level of confidence, after all, does not mean overlooking the places where you could improve.Knowing what you do well and where you need help will help you enjoy increased success and confidence.

A.outgoing B.attractive C.important D.energetic 63.What message does the author want to convey(传递) in the last paragraph?
A.To overlook one's disadvantages.
B.To make full use of one's advantages.
C.To have great confidence in one's abilities.
D.To make objective evaluations of one's abilities.

Four Simple Keys to Transform Your Life
The Power of Choice.Every one of us makes countless choices every day.Every choice we make has an impact on our lives.Even insignificant choices can affect what we experience and how we feel. When hunger strikes, we can reach for a healthy, nutritious snack, or we can choose the sugar high of junk food. The more important the decision, the greater its effect. For instance, how do I act towards that person who treated me badly? Do I generally choose to be passive, or do I actively set clear intentions and create what I want in my life? Every choice we make, however big or small, affects us in some way.
How Do You Make Choices? If you are interested in living a richer, fuller life, there is a foundation upon which you can base all of your decisions which can make
life better not only for you, but also for those around you. This foundation is to choose based on what's best for all.Imagine a world where every parent, spouse(配偶), friend, teacher, businessperson, and politician truly did their best to choose what's best for all involved in every decision they made We would certainly live in a more caring, supportive world.
It's the Intention."But how do I know what is really best?" you might ask.The answer is simple. It doesn't matter. What matters is not the choice you make, but rather the intention behind your choice. What matters is that whatever decision you make, you are clear in your intention of choosing based on what's best for all.If it later turns out that you made what appears to have been a bad choice, there's no need for guilt.Knowing that you did your best to choose with a sincere desire for what's best for all, your conscience stays clear and open. This then allows you to more easily learn from your mistakes, and to live with a clear heart and mind. What's Best for Me, Too! Choosing what's best does not mean you have to always sacrifice yourself for others. An overly(过度的) exhausted mother can lose her temper easily. Some time off for this mother might seem selfish, yet in the long run, it can help her to be a better mother to her children. So as we move through each day of our lives, let us remember to include ourselves as we do our best to choose what's best for all.
64.Which of the following is FALSE?
A.Whenever hunger strikes, we will reach for a junk snack
B.Every choice, however big or small, has an influence on us.
C.Even small choices affect how we feel..
D. We make choices every day.
65.How should we make choices?
A.To be interested in a richer, fuller life.
B.To make life better for ourselves.
C. To imagine a world where everyone did their best.
D.To choose based on what's best for all.
66.Why does the author say, "What matters is not the choice you make, but rather the intention behind your choice"?
A.Because the choice you make is not important.
B.Because you may have made a bad choice.
C.Because this allows you to stay clear and improve.
D. Because there is no need for guilt.
67.How to choose what is best for us?
A.We need to devote all our life to others.
B.We need to put away some time for ourselves.
C.We need to sacrifice ourselves for others.
D.We need to be selfless every minute.
D
It is thought that crying is hardly an activity encouraged by society. Tear, whether they are of sorrow, anger, or joy, typically make Americans feel uncomfortable and embarrassed. The shedder of tears is likely to apologize, even when a great tragedy was the cause. The observer of tears is likely to do everything possible to put an end to the emotional tears. But judging from recent studies of crying behavior, both those responses to tears are often inappropriate and may even be counterproductive (适得其反).
Humans are the only animals clearly known to shed(流出)emotional tears. Since evolution has given rise to few purposeless physiological responses, it is logical to assume that crying has one or more functions that enhance (increase) survival.
Although some observers have suggested that crying is a way to ask for assistance form others (as a crying baby might from its mother), the shedding of tears is hardly necessary to get help. Vocal cries would have been quite enough, more likely than tears to gain attention. So, it appears, there must be something special about tears themselves.
Indeed, the new studies suggest that emotional tears may play a direct role in alleviating(缓解) stress, University of Minnesota researchers who are studying the chemical composition of tears have recently isolated(分离) two important chemicals from emotional tears. Both chemicals are found only in tears that are shed in response to emotion. Tears shed because of exposure to cut onion would contain no such substance.
Other researchers are investigating the usefulness of tears as a means of diagnosing human ills and monitoring drugs. At Tulane University’s Teat Analysis Laboratory Dr. Peter Kastl and his colleagues report that they can use tears to detect (发现) drug abuse, to stud y the causes of “dry eye” syndrome(综合症)and the effects of eye surgery, and perhaps even to measure exposure to environmental pollutants.
68.What does the phrase “both those responses” in Paragraph 1 refer to ?
A.Crying out of sorrow and shedding tears for happiness.
B.The embarrassment and unpleasant sensation of the observers.
C.The tear shedder’s apology and the observer’s effort to stop the crying.
D.Linking illness with crying and finding the chemical composition of tears. 69.From the passage we can infer that .
A.unlike animals, humans can shed tears for survival
B.we can reduce our stress by shedding tears
C.shedders of tears can’t get help by crying loudly
D.it is unnatural for people to shed tears
70.What does the passage mainly talk about?
A.functions of shedding tears.. B.Roles of emotional tears
C.Unwelcome shedders of tears. D.Research on the effects of tears.

What is a big dream ? (71) Or , is a big dream something that provides only entertainment? Children dream big dreams, but there are three barriers to realizing dreams. They often kill them before they ever have a chance to grow.
The Self
Immediately fo llowing the birth of a big dream, a negative self-talk takes over and gives all the reasons why it cannot happen. This inside voice is the ego(自我). It’s there for protecting and should be listened to. (72) Most people are influenced by the inside voice. That’s why only a handful of people make their dream come true.
(73)
Family and friends are a lot like the ego. They want to protect those they love, so they will often list all the reasons why the big dreams won’t come true. Sometimes, family and friends destroy dreams of those they love most, out of their own fear of being left behind.
The World
If one gets past the first two barriers, one has to face the world. (74) In the past, big dreamers were locked up and sometimes even killed when they were shown to the world. Fortunately, in most of the world today, big dreamers just get laughed at.
The way to realize a big dream is with confidence and action. When childr en have confidence and then take action, they will be ready to accept any failure. The truth is that every great dreamer whose dreams have never seen the light of success knows failure well.(75)
A.Family and Friends
B.How Big Dreams Die
C.Does a big dream show one’s future ?
D.They simply fail until they succeed.
E.It is the last and the most terrible barrier.
F.Sometimes it is right, but more often it is wrong
G.And their big dream is to be a rock star or a famous artist.

Recently an online survey on traveling has been conducted. In the survey, people are asked about how often and why they travel, and the results are as follows.
Chart 1 shows that 33% of the people often go traveling, the reason for which lies in the fact that they have enough time and money. Nearly half of the people do it now and then, while those who seldom go out to travel account for 21%.
As is shown in Chart 2, people travel for different reasons. The largest percentage of people, about 48%, put enjoying beautiful natural scenery in the first place for their travel. Over a quarter of them enjoy learning about culture and customs and 20% prefer to visit places of interest. Also there are a small number of people who travel mainly for shopping
As for me, traveling is not only a good way to relax and enjoy myself but also
a chance to broaden my horizons.。
