不定代词包括all, both, each, every, either, neither, none, little, few, many, much, other, another, some, any, no等,还有some , any, no 和every构成的合成代词,其中一些容易混淆,需要加以区别。

1. all, both

(1)China and Japan are both Asian countries.

(2)All the information was then ready to be processed into film negatives.

(3)It’s easy to do the repair. All you need is a hammer and some nails.

(1)The boys all left early.

(2)We are all working hard.

(3)They have both finished the work.

(1)---Have you finished?
---Yes, we all have.

(2)---Are you ready?
---Yes, we both are.

2. each与every

(1)Each of the students is working hard.

(2)Give each of them two books.

(3)The girls each have a bracelet.

(1)There are trees on each side of the street.

(2)John, Peter and Bill each say they came first in the race.

Every child in the class passed the exam.

3. no, none, no one, nothing
1) no 只用于否定名词,相当于not any。

如:
(1)I have no (not any)time.

(2)There are no(not any) books on the desk.

(1)None(No one) will do so.

(2)None of these books is mine.

(3)---How many students are there on the playground?

(5)---Who can push away the huge stone?
---No one.

3) nothing

Nothing in the world moves faster than light.

She saw nothing.

4. either, neither

1)Either of them is a teacher.

2)Either machine works well.

3)Neither of the films is interesting.

4)Neither sentence is correct.

变为全部否定时要分别用none, neither, nothing, nobody 来分别代替all, both, everything, everyone。

如:
Both of them could not offer a satisfactory explanation.

Neither of them could offer a satisfactory explanation.
