If you get into the forest with your friends, stay with them always. If you don’t, you may get lost. If you really get lost, this is what you should do. Sit down and stay where you are. Don’t try to find your friends—let them find you by staying in one place.
There is another way to help your friends or other nearby people to find you. Give them a signal (信号) by shouting or whistling (吹口哨) three times. Any signal given three times is a call for help.
Keep up shouting or whistling always three times together. When people hear you,
they will know that you are not just making noise for fun. They will let you know that they have heard your signal. They give you two shouts, two whistles, or two gun-shots (枪声). When someone gives you a signal, it is an answer to a call for help.
If you don’t think that you will get help before night comes, try to make a little house---cover up to the holes with branches (树枝) with lots of leaves. Make yourself a soft bed with leaves and grass.
What should you do if you get hungry or need drinking water? You would have to leave your little house to look for a river. Don’t just walk away. Pick off s mall branches and drop them as you walk so that you can find your way back. The most important thing to do when you are lost is—stay in one place.
4. If you lost in the forest, you should _______.
A. try to find your friends as soon as possible
B. walk around the forest and shout so that your friends could hear you
C. stay where you are and give signals three times
D. try to get out of the forest and shout for help
5. When you hear two shouts, or whistles, or gunshots, __________.
A. it is an answer to your call for help

C. you should shout more loudly
D. you should try to run to them
6. When you want to leave your place to get drinking water, you should ________.
A. just go to the river
B. leave marks so that you can find your way back
C. make a fire so that you can have some tea
D. find some glasses or bottles before you go

Computer programmer David Jones earns £35,000 a year designing new computer games, yet he cannot find a bank ready to let him have a credit card(信用卡). Instead, he has been told to wait another two years, until he is 18.
The 16-year-old works for a small firm in Liverpool, where the problem of most young people of his age is finding a job. David's firm releases(推出) two new games for the fast throwing computer market each month.
But David's biggest headache is what to do with his money. Even though he earns a lot, he cannot drive a car, take out a mortgage(抵押贷款), or get credit cards. David got his job with the Liverpool-based company four months ago, a year after
leaving school with six O-levels and working for a time in a computer shop. "I got the job because the people who run the firm knew I had already written some programs," he said. David spends some of his money on records and clothes, and gives his mother 50 pounds a week. But most of his spare time is spent working.
"Unfortunately, computing was not part of our studies at school," he said. "But I had been studying it in books and magazines for four years in my spare time. I knew what I wanted to do and never considered staying on at school. Most people in this business are fairly young, anyway." David added: "I would like to earn a million and I suppose early retirement(退休) is a possibility. You never know when the market might disappear."
8. In what way is David different from people of his age?
A. He has a handsome income.
B. He lives with his mother.
C. He often goes out with friends.
D. He graduated with six O-levels.
9. What is one of the problems that David is facing now?
A. He has very little spare time.
B. He has no time to learn driving.
C. He is too young to get a credit card.
D. He will soon lose his job.
10. Why was David able to get the job in the company?
A. He had done well in all his exams.
B. He had written some computer programs.
C. He was good at playing computer games.
D. He had learnt to use computers at school.
11. Why did David decide to leave school and start working?
A. He received lots of job offers.
B. He was eager to help his mother.
C. He lost interest in school studies.
D. He wanted to earn his own living.

Before a new type of airplane goes into service, every part of it is tested again and again. But there are two tests that are more important than all the others.
The first is called the " tank test". A modem airplane must fly very high in the sky. Air must be pumped into the plane so that the passengers can breathe. The metal structure (结构)of the plane has to be very strong for this reason. When the plane is filled with air, the air presses against the skin of the plane inside. The pressure (压力) on a small window is like a huge foot that is trying to get out.
If a small part of the plane were to fail, the plane would explode in the sky. To test the structure of the plane, the plane is lowered into a huge tank or container of water. Then it is filled with air. Vne pressure inside the plane is greater than it ever will be when it is high up in the air. Finally, there is an explosion. This does not cause so much damage inside the water tank as it would anywhere else. Engineers can discover which part of the plane has broken. Then that part is made stronger.
The most dangerous test happens when the new plane is going through test flights in the air. The test pilot must find out exactly what happens when the engines (发动机) are all shut off at once. The plane begins to fall like a stone. It is the pilot' s job to find out how he can get control of the plane again. These two tests are examples of how planes are made safe before they ever carry passengers.
12. By doing the "tank test", the engineers can find out _______.
A. the amount of air in the plane
B. the power of the airplane engines
C. the. pressure inside and outside the plane
D. the strength of the plane structure
13. What will happen to the plane under the "tank test"?
A. It will be broken.
B. It will be made stronger.
C. It will be filled with water.
D. It will be tested by pilots,
14. According to the text, why are test flights most dangerous?
A. The plane may explode in the air.
B. The pilot may lose control of the plane.
C. The engines may be damaged.
D. Too much air may get into the plane.
15. What might be the most suitable title for the text?
A. How Airplanes Are Made and Tested
B. The Importance of Flying Safely
C. The Danger of Testing Airplanes
D. Two Important Tests on Airplanes
D 13. A 14. B 15. D

故B项“If not, go to the next step”符合上下文语境。

One agency that is very reputable (声誉好的)is "Lambert in Minnesota"可知"Lambert in Minnesota"是一家声誉非常好的代理机构。

本句应该介绍这一结构的良好服务,故G项“They offer free advice for good ideas他们会为好点子提供免费服务”与之对应。

故E项“Write down exactly about your invention.”

故A项“It may take a year or two”符合上下文语境。

注意在选项中查找表示结果、结论、总结等的信号词,如therefore, as a result, thus, hence, in short, to sum up, to conclude, in a word 等词语,选项中也可发现前文的同义词句。

since, before, after, already, every since, for a long time, yesterda y, in 1992, now。
