Instagram is containing so many photos of food—now a pop—up diner in London is taking advantage of this new trend by letting people settle the bill for their meals simply by uploading photos of their dishes to social networks.
I always thought people's taking pictures of their food was kind of silly, but at this new pop-up restaurant in the UK,I'd probably do it too.'The Picture House’ is the world’s first pay-by—photo restaurant—you order, click a photo of the food, share on Instagram and eat for free!
The restaurant belongs to frozen food giant Birds Eye, who came up with the idea to cash in on people's addiction with photographing food and sharing the pictures online。
They conducted a survey and found out that more than half of the British population regularly took pictures of their meals. So they realized it was a better way to advertise their new dining range.
The pop-up diner was open in Soho,London for three days in May, and is now moving to other major UK cities. They serve two-course meals that customers don't have to pay for, if they photo and Instagram it.The restaurant is a part of Birds Eye’s 'Food for Life' campaign,a new marketing project that aims at changing the way people look at frozen food.”Taking photos of food enables people to show off and to share their mealtime moments—from the everyday to the special,” said marketing director Margaret Jobling.
The reaction to The Picture House has been great so far.And the pay-by—picture concept has proven to be an effective way.Alternative payment methods are actually gaining popularity among a lot of businesses.Last year, in a cafe in Germany customers pay by how much time they spend there, not by what they eat.
24.Instagram probably is ____.
A.a restaurant free of charge B.a campaign of "Food for Life"
C.a new marketing project D.a program used to share
photos
25.What’s the author's attitude to this new trend?
A.Opposed.B.Interested.C.Confused.D.Unconcerned.
26.'The Picture House' encourages sharing photos of its food to ____.A.attract more customers B.raise the price of frozen food
C.create a new social media trend D.reward the regular customers
27.Which of the following can serve as the best title for the passage?
A.No Need to Pay. B.The Pop—up Diner.C.Pay by Picture.D.Food for Life.
C
I was desperately nervous about becoming car-free. But eight months ago our car was hit by a passing vehicle and it was destroyed。
No problem,I thought: we’ll b uy another。
But the insurance payout didn’t even begin to cover the costs of buying a new car—I worked out that, with the loan (贷款) we’d need plus petrol, insurance, parking permits and tax, we would make a payment as much as £600 a month。
And that's when I had my fancy idea. Why not just give up having a car at all?I live in London。
We have a railway station behind our house,a tube station 10 minutes’ walk away, and a bus stop at the end of the street. A new car club had just opened in our area, and one of its
shiny little red Peugeots was parked nearby。
If any family in Britain could live without a car, I reasoned, then surely we were that family。
But my new car—free idea, sadly, wasn’t shared by my family. My teenage daughters were horrified。
What would their friends think about our family being “too poor to afford a car”?(I wasn’t that bothered what they thought, and I suggested the girls should take the same approach。
)
My friends, too, were astonished at our plan. What would happen if someone got seriously ill overnight and needed to go to hospital?(an ambulance) How would the children get to and from their many events? (buses and trains) People smiled as though this was another of my mad ideas, before saying they were sure I’d soon realize that a car was a necessity.
Eight months on,I wonder whether we’ll ever own a car again。
The idea that you “have to” own a car, especially if you live in a city,is all in the mind。
I live—and many other citizens do too—in a place that has never been better served by public transport, and yet car ownership has never been higher。
We worry about rising car costs, but we’d be better off asking something much more basic: do I really need a car? Certainly the answer is no,and I’m a lot richer because I dared to a sk the question。
28. The author decided to live a car-free life partly because ______.
A。
most families chose to go car—free B。
he was hurt in a
terrible car accident
C。
the cost of a new car was too much D. the traffic jam was unbearable for him
29. What is the attitude of the author’s family toward his plan?
A。
Supportive。
B。
Disapproving。
C。
Optimistic。
D。
Unconcerned.
30. What did the author suggest his daughters do about their friends’ opinion?
A。
Argue against it. B. Take their advice. C。
Think it over。
D. Leave it alone。
31. What conclusion did the author draw after the eight-month car—free life?
A. Life cannot go without a car.
B. Life without a car is a little bit hard。
C。
His life gets improved without a car。
D. A car-free life does not suit everyone。
D
Some people say global English is no longer just controlled by British or American English, but is running free and developing unique local forms。
Can you figure out the following terms?
“I like your smile, but unlike you put your shoes on my face。
” This is a way of saying “Keep off the grass.” Or “people mountain, people sea", which means “very crowded”.
These examples are what we call Chinglish. When it comes to Chinglish,if all you know is “good good study, day day up", you will be considered “out man".
Nowadays, more Chinglish words have been created, for example, a Chinese idiom is translated as “smilence",a combination of the English words smile and silence。
Chinglish usually offers a humorous look at the misuse of the English language in Chinese street signs, products, and advertising. They are favored by some English-speaking tourists and visitors。
Dominic Swire has been living in Beijing for a couple of years. He said,“I think many Chinese people complain about the Chinglish and badly translated English。
But you know, sometimes for us foreigners,it’s actually quite charming to see them。
I think if the translations of English in China were all perfect, then something would be lost from the Chinese culture。
"
However,C hinglish will probably become a “cultural relic” in the near future。
Beijing has made a comprehensive plan to improve foreign language services and eliminate(淘汰) Chinglish within five years。
“It is very ridiculous to see Chinglish on the signs in some scenic spots. And they are a kind of barriers for communication between Chinese and people from other countries,” a Beijinger said.
Some Chinese university experts side with Chinglish。
They argue that English has absorbed elements from other languages such as French and
Spanish in its growth,and now it's Chinese’s turn。
32. What can we call Chinglish?
A.The English words which get new Chinese meanings.
B.The Chinese words which are difficult to translate。
C.The words combining English vocabulary and Chinese grammar。
D.The local words preventing foreigners to learn Chinese well. 33.Who will be called “out man" according to the passage?
A.A person who knows little about Chinglish words。
B.A student who hates learning foreign languages.
C.A tourist who fails to understand local translations。
D.An expert who doesn’t support Chinglish at all。
34.What is Swire's attitude to Chinglish?
A.It can show the humor of Chinese。
B.It will attract more foreign tourists.
C.It helps him to learn Chinese well. D.It seems part of Chinese culture。
35.Chinglish is likely to become a “cultural relic" in Beijing because ________.
A.it has become a unique bridge between Chinese and English
B.Chinglish is a chance to enrich Chinese and English
C.it improves the understanding between Chinese and foreigners
D.Beijing is determined to get rid of Chinglish signs
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。
选项中有两项是多余选项。
Third—Culture Kids
Did you grow up in one culture, your parents came from another, and you are now living in a totally different country? If so, then you are a third—culture kid!
The term “third-culture kid” (or TCK) was coined in the 1960s by Dr. Ruth. She first came across this phenomenon when she researched North American children living in India. Caught between two cultures, they form their very own. 36 About 90 percent of them have a university degree, while 40 percent pursue a postgraduate or doctor degree。
They usually benefit from their intercultural experience, which helps them to grow into successful academics and professionals.
37 In fact many hardships may arise from this phenomenon。
A third—culture kid may not be able to adapt themselves completely to their new surroundings as expected. Instead, they may always remain an outsider in different host cultures. Max, for example, experienced this fundamental feeling of strangeness throughout his life as a third—culture kid。
38 While this can be a way to create a network of friends all around the world, it can be difficult for a third-culture kid like Max to maintain close friendships and relationships.
For a third—culture kid,it is often easier to move to a new foreign country than to return to their “home” country。
After living in
Australia and South Korea for many years,Louis finally returned to Turkey as a teenager. But she felt out of place when she returned to the country where she was born。
39 She did not share the same values as her friends’ eve n years after going back home。
While a third-culture kid must let go of their identity as foreigner when he/she returns, the home country can prove to be more foreign than anything he/she came across before。
The peer group they face does not match the idealized image children have of “home”. 40
As a part of the growing “culture”,TCKs may find it a great challenge for them to feel at home in many places.
A。
Yet being a third—culture kid is not always easy.
B. In general, they often reach excellent academic results.
C。
This often makes it hard for them to form their own identity.
D。
However, their parents can help them see the opportunities of a mobile lifestyle.
E. Their experience abroad helps them to gain a better understanding of cultural differences。
F. Unlike other teens of h er age, she didn’t know anything about current TV shows or fashion trends。
G。
Additionally, making new friends and saying goodbye to old ones will at some point become
routine for a third-culture kid.

第一节:短文改错
1.the改为a;冠词错误.句意表达的是泛指因为中年人,要用不定冠词.
2.Obvious改为Obviously;句中obvious修饰整个句子,且有逗号分隔,要用副词.
3.Before改为After;连词错误.句意表达的是他离开之后,不是之前.
4.加them;代词错误.句意表达的是捡起钥匙;句中指代的是keys,要用them来指代.
5.whom改为who;连词错误.句中was still shouting on his phone beside his car修饰him,是一个非限制性定语从句;从句缺少主语,且指代的是人,要用who来引导.
6.little改为few;量词错误.句中修饰的是复数名词seconds,要用a few来修饰,a little修饰不可数名词.
