【中考真题特训】任务型阅读(江苏省)
Passage 1
Starting a book club is easy-all you need is to love reading. Here’s how to get yours off to a flying start.
When you set up your book club, the first thing is to get members for your club. They could be friends, family, or those you know through various activities, but they should all love to read. A small group of seven to ten people is usually an ideal size for a book club. Too many make discussions difficult.
Once you have a group, agree on how often you want to meet-usually clubs meet monthly. Pick a date and stick with it. That way, members can easily plan for it. Send out emails a week before the meeting to give people a written reminder. Set meeting time length. An hour is a good start. Two hours usually does the trick.
Then, you need a good place. Libraries, parks and restaurants-all make good meeting places. For many clubs, homes are the best place as you don’t have to get dressed up, and noisy public places can make talking hard. If members bring a plate of food or a bottle, it can help start conversation.
Please don’t forget the most important thing-the book! Think about the books your club will enjoy. Fiction? Non-fiction? Your club can choose books in different ways. You can take turns to recommend books. Let everyone vote upon what book to read. Anyway, make sure to keep it light and fun.
After all these have been decided, your book club is ready. Now, it’s time to hold the first meeting. Enjoy your reading.

Passage 2 (2016南京市)
What will you eat for lunch today? In some countries, lunchtime often means soup time l There are many kinds of soups served around the world. Some are as thin and clear as water. Some are as thick as stews. Others are full of noodles!
Soup is just one thing that can be eaten for lunch. What you eat for lunch may be different from the lunch of someone who lives in another country. Let’s take a look around the world to see what kids are eating for lunch.
Mexico
Many children in Mexico eat tortillas for lunch. Most tortillas are made from ground corn, but sometimes wheat is used. Tortillas are usually flat and round, but they can also be made into other shapes. Taco shells are made from corn tortillas and filled with beans or meat. Tasty sauces, called salsas, are often added to tacos. These sauces are made from tomatoes, onions, hot peppers and spices.
Russia
Winters in Russia are very cold. Maybe that’s why many Russian children eat soup for lunch. Two of their favourites are cabbage soup and beef soup, Many Russian soups also include potatoes. Potatoes are an important crop in Russia. They make soups thick. Eating thick soups can help keep people warm and can fill them up, so hunger is no problem!
South Korea
Meals in Korea are made up of many dishes. No matter what else is served, there is always rice.
Kimchi is also always on the table. Kimchi is pickled(腌制的) meat or vegetables. Korean children mix together many dishes and flavours at meals. It’s common for their food to be hot and spicy.
Thailand
Lunch in Thailand often includes noodles. There are many ways to serve noodles. One popular dish is made with thin rice noodles, tofu and shrimp. Another favourite way to eat rice noodles is with meat, vegetables and thick gravy.

Passage 3 (2015盐城市)
You will read about how you are a citizen in your school, community and nation.
A citizen is a person who belongs to a place. You are a citizen of the community where you live and the nation where you were born.
Citizens Have Rights
As a citizen, you have rights that the government protects. A right is something you may do. As a citizen, you have a night to speak freely and to practise your religion. You also have the right to privacy. That means you may decide what to show or tell someone and what not to tell.
Citizens Have Responsibilities
Along with rights, citizens have responsibilities. A responsibility is something that you should do. For example, you should follow the laws. A law is a rule that everyone in a community, state or country must follow. Laws keep people safe and help them get along well with one another. When people follow the traffic laws, they help keep others safe. When you follow laws in a park, you help others enjoy the park.
Being a Good Citizen
Good citizens care about people’s rights. They try to make things fair and safe for everyone. Good citizens work together to solve problems. Children can be good citizens by solving problems together in their school or community. They may follow proper steps to deal with problems. First, name the problem. Then, list ways to solve it. Next, choose the best way. And finally, find out if it solves the problems.

Passage 5 ( 2015扬州市)
For me, living in Canada for 25 years, China is a new world that I have longed to explore. This spring, I chose Yangzhou to be my first stop on a 16-month trip around China. It was like love at first sight. At 15, I bought a book of collection of poems about Tang Dynasty. Through it, I heard of Yangzhou for the first time, I was deeply attracted by a poem written by Li Bai-Sailing to Yangzhou in March.
Yangzhou, sitting 2,500 years at the crossing of the Yangtze River and the 2,400-year-old Grand Canal(大运河) , is one of the first 24 historic and cultural cities in China. In the old town, there are many ancient streets and houses. It’s best to visit the city in spring. Spring paints the city in bright colours.
Yangzhou has always been famous for its gardens. Among them, the Slender West Lake, one of the biggest attractions in the city, was my first stop. The park with its fantastic landscape and lots of history has enough to keep a tourist busy for the whole day. What a shame I simply could afford half’ a day!
My next stop was He Garden, one of the best protected gardens in Yangzhou. It was once owned by the family of He Zhidao in Qing Dynasty. He Zhidao successfully brought Chinese and Western architectural(建筑的) features together.
Yangzhou is also the starting point of the Grand Canal tour. Taking a boat along the part of the canal in Yangzhou, I was amazed at the liveliness of this ancient waterway and the city’s history and culture.
Luckily, my two-day trip to Yangzhou was filled with pleasure and wonder. It made me hungry for more China.

Passage 6 (2015徐州市)
Late last night, or early this morning, something terrible happened in East Town. Mr Raymond Johnson has lived in East Town and has worked there as a manager for many years. He is forty-two years old, unmarried, and he lives in a big wooden house on Moonlight Road. The people of East Town know Mr Johnson as an unusual man. He does not often leave his house, but his business has made him very rich. Last night, at about midnight, a man who was out walking saw that one of Mr Johnson’s rooms was on fire. He immediately called the fire station, and the firemen arrived soon after. It took them half an hour to put out the fire. The firemen were surprised that Mr Johnson did not come out of the house, and two of them went inside to look for him. But Mr Johnson was not in the house. In the bedroom the two men found an open safe(保险箱) , which was empty. There were papers on the floor. Mr Johnson’s bedroom windows on the ground floor of the house were open. The firemen also found a set of keys in the room. The police then found out that the keys belonged to Mr Paul White, who visited Mr Johnson at his home yesterday evening. The police are sure that they know the motive(动机) for the crime and are looking for Mr White. The police are puzzled because nobody knows where Mr Johnson is.

Passage 7 ( 2014 南京市)
Mayme Clayton collected books, magazines and letters written by African Americans. Her son, Avery Clayton, thought her collection was important. Unlike most books, these were rare and hard to find. They were written by writers who helped shape African American culture.
One book in the collection was written by Phillis Wheatley. Wheatley was a slave who wrote poetry. She was the first African American to publish(出版) a book. Wheatley herself signed(签名) the book in the Claytons’collection. No one else owns a copy signed by Phillis Wheatley.
By the time she passed away at age 83, Mrs Clayton had more than 30,000 books by or about black people. Her collection also includes papers about slaves, photographs, movies, sheet music, and personal letters by black leaders and artists. It is one of the biggest personal collections of African American history and culture in the United States.
Avery Clayton’s dream was to create a museum for his mother’s treasures. Scholars say that Mrs Claytods collection is very important. Without her work, part of African American heritage (遗产) would have been lost."We didn’t know these things existed," says Sara Hodson of California’s Huntington Library.
The collection’s new home is likely to be in Culver City, California. Part of Avery Clayton’s dream is to share the cultural riches his mother collected with others. He especially wants kids to have a chance to see the collection. “At present African American culture is being explained by pop culture,” he says. “It’s important to offer a more complete picture.”

Passage8 (2014常州市)
In modern society(社会) there is a great deal of argument about competition. Some value it highly, for they believe that it is helpful for social progress and richness. Others say that competition is bad, and that it sets one person against another and leads to unfriendliness between people.
I have trained many children who held the belief(看法) that their self-worth came from how well they performed at tennis and other skills. For them, playing well and winning are often life-and-death matters. Sadly, they forget to develop many other human qualities.
However, while some seem to be lost in the strong wish to succeed, others think quite the opposite. In a culture which values only the winner and pays no attention to the ordinary(普通) players, they strongly blame competition, especially youngsters who have suffered under competitive pressures (压力) from their parents or society. Teaching these young people, I often find that they even choose to fail. They seem to choose failure by not trying to win or achieve success. By not trying, they always have an excuse, “I may have lost, but it doesn’t matter because I really didn’t try.” In fact, they are worried that if they had really tried and failed, the failure would mean
that they were worth nothing.
Clearly, this belief is the same as that of the true competitors who try to prove themselves. Both are based on the mistaken belief that one’s self-worth comes from how well one performs in comparison(比较) with others. Both are afraid of not being valued. We can only discover a new meaning in competition as such worries and fear begin to disappear.

Passage 9(2014镇江市)
Have you ever asked your relatives or friends if there is Wi-Fi in their houses? Have you ever searched for Wi-Fi when you are at restaurants or hotels? The answers will probably be "Yes". Most of us want Wi-Fi everywhere as if we can’t live without it. But we can only use free Wi-Fi in some public places. We still have to spend some money accessing(连接) the Internet at most time. Here comes a piece of good news.
A rich, powerful organization in the USA called the Media Development Investment Fund ( MDIF) has decided Lo change the age of online computing(计算) completely by giving free Wi-Fi to every person on Earth. They will send up hundreds of satellites into low Earth orbit(轨道) in 2015.
This is because they have made a survey and found that only 60% of the world’s population have been able to get information on the Internet. And this is also because many countries are unable to offer people the necessary infrastructure(基础设施) to access the web.
We can expect to use free Wi-Fi everywhere in the near future.

Passage10 (2014盐城市)
As a teenager, you’re trying to learn who you are. You’re going through mental and physical changes. You’re dealing with different kinds of stress and trying to succeed in school.
The good news is that though the teen years are tough, there are skills you can learn to make them a lot easier.
If you’re a teen and trying to manage your feelings better, here are a few skills for you to deal with your feelings.
Name the feeling.
What feeling are you experiencing? For example, are you sad, stressed, angry, joyful or excited?
Accept what you’re feeling.
Many people worry that their feelings will increase. So they are not willing to accept them, hoping that they’ll just go away. However, that’s impossible. Remind yourself that it’s OK to feel your feelings.
Become familiar with your feelings.
To better understand your feelings, you should pay attention to your feelings all over the day. You may record how you’re feeling in the morning, afternoon and at night on a piece of paper. Next to your feeling, also write down where you notice it in your body.
Express your feelings.
Expressing a feeling is a good way to reduce it. For example, you can express your feelings by crying, exercising, writing about them or talking to someone you trust. Just be sure that whatever activity you choose, it doesn’t hurt you or anyone else.
At different times in your life, you’ll experience different difficulties. But by learning some helpful skills, you’ll be able to live a comfortable life.
