一、八年级英语下册阅读理解专项练习(含答案解析)
1.阅读理解
Every morning my father buys a newspaper on his way to work. Every evening my mother looks through magazines at home. And every night, I look at the posters with photos of David Beckham and Yao Ming on my bedroom wall before I go to sleep. Can we imagine life without paper or print?
Paper was first created about 2,000 years ago, and has been made from silk, cotton, bamboo, and, since the 19th century, from wood. People learned to write words on paper to make a book. But in those days, books could only be produced one at a time by hand. As a result, they were expensive and rare. And because there weren't many books, few people learned to read.
Then printing was invented in China. When printing was developed greatly at the beginning of the 11th century, books could be produced more quickly and cheaply. As a result, more people learned to read. After that, knowledge and ideas spread quickly.
Today information can be received online, downloaded from the Internet rather than found in books, and information can be kept on CD-ROMs or machines such as MP3 players.
Computers are already used in classrooms, and newspapers and magazines can already be read online. So will books be replaced by computers one day? No, I don't think the Yao Ming posters on my bedroom wall will ever be replaced by a two-metre-high computer!

Climbing Mount Qomolangma, the World's highest mountain, has now become more difficult. The government of Nepal asks climbers to come down the mountain with at least 18 pounds of garbage. That's the average amount of garbage a climber leaves behind on Mount Qomolangma. Climbers would leave garbage along the way. This helps climbers keep their bags light, so they would have energy to reach the summit. The garbage problem in Mount Qomolangma is not new. In 2013, climbers carried down a total of four tons of garbage.
The new rule came into effect in April of 2014. To make sure it is followed, climbers will have to hand in some money to the officials before they climb the mountain. When they climb back down the mountain, the officials will check them to make sure they bring down the 18 pounds of garbage. If they do, their money will be given back to them. How we spend our time can be divided into three groups, or "jars". These would be the necessary tasks jar, the voluntary tasks jar and the happiness jar.
Every day, we spend time filling the necessary tasks jar. We fill this jar with useful things, like making money, housework, buying food. We then fill another jar with voluntary tasks. These are things that we do for others, but we may not enjoy them, such as taking children to activities and cooking family meals. Those jars are very important. If we don't fill them each day, our family won't be happy.
However, we often forget to fill the third jar --- the happiness jar. This is the jar that we fill with activities to make us happy. Is your happiness jar sometimes empty at the end of the day? We all have days like that. Between doing all the necessary and voluntary tasks, time flies quickly and before we know it, it is time for bed.
That is why each day we try to fill our happiness jar. Most days, I fill mine by going to the ballroom dance(社交舞)class with my husband and daughter. Between the music, the dancing and the friendship among the students, I always leave classes happier than when I entered.
Music is another way to make me happy. This week, I was glad to take part in an orchestra(管
弦乐队) practice at my church(教堂). A small group of us met to practice Christmas music for a church service. It was a time of fun, friendship and music making. At the end of the evening, my happiness jar was full.
This week, think about how you spent your time. Are you doing enough activities that bring joy to your life? Or are the necessary and voluntary tasks eating up all your time? Try to find ways to achieve a balance(获得平衡) among your three jars. At the end of the day, hopefully we've done all we can to make sure that our happiness jar is filled.

Most musicians agree that the best violins were first made in Cremona, Italy, about 200 years ago. These violins sound better than any other violin. They even sound better than the violins made today. Violin makers and scientists try to make instruments like the Italian violins. But they aren't the same. Musicians still prefer the old ones.
Some people think it is the age of the violins. But not all the old violins sound wonderful. Only the old violins from Cremona are special. So age cannot be the correct answer.
Other people think the secret to those violins is wood. The wood must be from certain kinds of trees. But the kind of wood may not be so important. It may be more important to cut the wood in a special way. Wood for a violin must be cut very carefully. It has to be the right size and shape. The smallest difference will change the sound of the violin. Musicians sometimes think that it is the secret of the Italians. Possibly they understood more than us about how to cut the wood.
Size and shape may not be the answer either. Scientists can make new ones which are exactly the same size and shape. But the new violins still do not sound as good as the old ones. Some scientists think the secret may be the varnish (清漆). Varnish is what covers the wood of the violin. It makes the wood look shiny. It also helps the sound of the instrument. But no one knows what the Italian violin makers used in their varnish.

A. are worse than the violins made today
B. are the same as the violins made today

A. To make it sell better.
B. To make it look shiny.

A. all the old violins sound wonderful
B. wood for violins must be cut carefully

If you look at the top of your phone, you'll usually see a little symbol that says 3G or 4G.The "G" stands for the "generation (代)" of your mobile phone network. But these symbols will become things of the past after 5G networks fully arrive.
On March 30, Shanghai vice-mayor Wu Qing made the first 5G video call on a Huawei Mate X smartphone, CGTN reported. Shanghai has also become the first city in China to start testing 5G networks.

However, it takes time to send and receive the information with this kind of lag, the cars might crash because they don't receive instructions in time. With 5G, this lag will be greatly lowered, making the cars safer according to CNN.
5G could also be used to power the Internet of Things (IoT). This means a large online network that connects all things and people. Fast Internet speeds will be the key to developing this technology. The IoT could be used in a lot of ways. For example, with IoT, your fridge could automatically (自动地) place an order online for eggs when it finds that there are no eggs left.(1)In which city was 5G tested for the first time in China?

B. With the help of 5G, people can only download and upload data faster.
C. Self-driving test cars might not crash if they can receive instructions in time.

What will life be like in the future? Many people, magazines and movies have told us that robots will be able to work for us. Although robots can already make cars, play music and do many trivial things for us, in the future, they can do more things, such as making websites, making houses and so on. Some people even believe that in the future with the help of robots, we needn't work.
In the future, people might create a "man" that cannot have a will of his own and has to follow orders only from his master(主人). The master must train him mentally with computers. As you know, an adult who follows the same training over and over again will not be able to change without another training. This means the master can have him work in a factory with no payment. And he will still be happy even if he only gets the basic life-support goods, because it's the way he was trained. I believe that this is the reason why the government does not allow any human research.
