A year ago, I paid no attention to English idioms(习语), though my teacher emphasized(强调)the importance again and again. But soon, the importance of English idioms was showed in an amusing experience.
One day, I happened to meet an Englishman, on the road, and soon we began to talk. As I was talking about how I was studying English, the foreigner seemed to be astonished, gently shaking his
head ,shrugging his shoulder s, saying, “You don’t say! You don’t say!” I was puzzled, I thought, perhaps this is not a proper topic. Well, I had better change the topic. So I said to him, “Well, shall we talk about the Great Wall by the way, have you ever been there?” “Certainly, eve rybody back home will laugh at me if I leave China without seeing it. It was magnificent(壮丽的).” He was deep in thought when I began to talk
like a tourist guide. “The Great Wall is one of the wonders in the world. We are very proud of it. ” Soon I was inte rrupted again by his order “You don’t say!” I couldn’t help asking, “Why do you ask me not to talk about it”.“Well, I didn’t request you to do so,” He answered, greatly surprised. I said, “Didn’t you say ‘you don’t say’?” Hearing this, the Englishman laughed to tears. He began to explain, “You don’t say actually means ‘really’. It is an expression of surprise. Perhaps you don’t pay attention to English idioms”. Only then did I know I had made a fool of myself. Since then I have been more careful with idioms.
31. A year ago, I did not pay attention to English idioms because_______.
A. English idioms were too difficult to master
B. I cared little about the teacher’s instruction
C. My teacher didn’t emphasize the importance
D. I had no interest in English learning
32. When I first heard “ You don’t say!” I thought _______.
A. the Englishman was not interested in the topic
B. the Englishman was only interested in the Great Wall
C. I had talked too much
D. I had to stop talking at once
33. Which of the following is true_________
A. The Englishman left China without seeing the Great Wall
B. The Englishman wanted to see the Great Wall after I talked about it
C. The Englishman wanted me to act as his guide
D. The Englishman visited the Great Wall and thought it was worth visiting
34. After the Englishman explained the idiom, ____________.
A. I thought the Englishman had made me a fool.
B. the Englishman became a real fool
C. I felt very silly
D. I became more careful in everything

Children start out as natural scientists, eager to look into the world around them. Helping them enjoy science can be easy; there’s no need for a lot of scientific terms or expensive lab equipment. You only have to shar e your children’s curiosity.
Firstly, listen to their questions. I once visited a classroom of seven-year-olds to talk about science as a job. The children asked me “textbook questions” about schooling, salary and whether I liked my job. When I finished a nswering, we sat facing one another in silence. Finally I said, “Now that we’re finished with your lists, do you have questions of your own about science?”
After a long pause, a boy raised his hand, “Have you ever seen a grasshopper(蚱蜢) eat? When I try eating leaves like that, I get a stomachache. Why?” This began a set of questions that lasted nearly two hours.
Secondly, give them time to think. Studies over the past 30 years have shown that, after asking a question, adults typically wait only one second or less for an answer, no time for a child to think. When adults increase their “wait time” to three seconds or more, children give more logical, complete and creative answers.
Thirdly, watch your language. Once you have a child involved in a sci ence discussion, don’t jump in with “That’s right” or “Very good”. These words work well when it comes to encouraging good behavior. But in talking about science, quick praise can signal that discussion is over. Instead, keep things going by
saying “That’s interesting” or “I’d never thought of it that way before”, or coming up with more questions or ideas.
Never push a child to “Think”. It doesn’t make sense, children are always thinking, without your telling them to. What’s more, this can turn a convers ation into a performance. The child will try to find the answer you want, in as few words as possible, so that he will be a smaller target(目标) for your disagreement.
Lastly, show; don’t tell. Real-life impressions of nature are far more impressive than any lesson children can learn from a book or a television program. Let children look at their fingertips through a magnifying glass(放大镜), and they’ll understand why you want them to wash before dinner. Rather than saying that water evaporates(蒸发), set a pot of water to boil and let them watch the water level drop.
35. According to the passage, children are natural scientists, and to raise their interest, the most important thing for adults to do is _______.
A. to let them see the world around
B. to share the children’s curiosity
C. to explain difficult phrases about science
D. to supply the children with lab equipment
36. In the last sentence of the first paragraph, the word “lists” could best be replaced by ______.
A. any questions
B. any problems
C. questions from textbooks
D. any number of questions
37. According to the passage, children can answer questions in a more logical, complete and creative way if adults ________.
A. ask them to answer quickly
B. wait for one or two seconds after a question
C. tell them to answer the next day
D. wait at least for three seconds after a question
38. The author mentions all of the following techniques for adults to share with their children’s curi osity except that adults should ________.
A. tell their children stories instead of reciting(背诵) facts.
B. offer their children chances to see things for themselves.
C. be patient enough when their children answer questions.
D. encourage their children to ask questions of their own.

In the summer of 1978 an English farmer was driving his tractor through a field of wheat when he discovered that some of his wheat was lying flat on the ground. The fattened (压平的) wheat formed a circle about six meters across. Around this circle were four smaller circles of flattened wheat. The five circles were in a formation like five dots. During the following years, farmers in England found the strange circles in their fields more and more often.
The circles are called “crop circles(麦田怪圈)” because they appear in the fields of grain - usually wheat or corn. The grain in the circles lies flat on the ground but never broken; it continues to grow, and farmers can later harvest it. Farmers always discover the crop circles in the morning, so the circles probably form at night. They appear only in the months from May to September.
At first, people thought that the circles were a hoax. Probably young people were making them as a joke, or farmers were making them to attract tourists. To prove that the circles were a hoax, people tried to make circles exactly like the ones that farmer had found. They couldn’t do it. They couldn’t enter a field of grain without leaving tracks(痕迹), and they couldn’t flatten the grain without breaking it.
Many people believe that beings from outer space are making the circle to communicate with us from far away and that the crop circles are messages from them.
Scientists who have studied the crop circles suggested several possibilities. Some scientists say that a downward rush of wind leads to the formation of the circles - the same downward rush of air that sometimes causes an airplane to crash. Other scientists say that forces within the earth cause the circles to appear. There is one problem with all these scientific explanations: crop circles often appear in formations, like the five-dot formation. It is hard to believe that any natural force could form those.

Anyone who reads a book and then goes to see a movie based on that book generally leaves the movie feeling a little disappointed. Why might this be? Both books and movies serve the purpose of entertainment. Both books and movies offer characters and plots. And, both books and movies provide a setting for a story. Books, however, offer a more attractive and complex form of entertainment than movies.
Although movies are entertaining to watch, books have advantages over them. First, books, in comparison to movies, can more easily seize the depths of characters and create a complex setting through the use of rich description. Books leave it up to the reader to interpret(理解), imagine, and recreate the story in his or her own mind. However, movies are action packed and provide lots of visual stimuli(视觉刺激);Still, it is the movie not the viewer that interprets the characters, plot and setting. Second, books are not limited to time. A writer can write as much or as little as necessary in order to create and tell a story. Movies , on the other hand, are limited to an hour and a half to two hours of entertaining time before the audience(观众)begins to get restless. Last, reading is an intellectual form of entertainment. Readers can improve their level of reading and vocabulary in a harmless, healthy, and pleasurable away. Movies, on the other hand, are not as complex and entertaining as books, and they leave nothing to interpret. Therefore, the advantages and entertainment value of books outweigh(胜过)those of a movie.
To conclude, books, through interpretation, help the reader develop a sense of relationship to the characters and the story itself, but a movie strictly entertains. Books are a better form of entertainment than movies.
47.According to the author, .
A. movies often make people disappointed
B. more and more people prefer books to movies
C. books have many advantages over movies
D. both books and movies strictly entertain
48.The underlined word “intellectual” in the second paragraph may relate to .
A. training
B. learning
C. translation
D. memory
49.We learn from the text that .
A. movies can easily seize the depths of characters
B. books provide more visual stimuli than movies
C. books leave readers nothings to interpret and imagine
D. movies are usually time limited compared with books
50.Which of following would be the best title for the text?
A. Movies: Easy Form of Entertainment
B. Books: Better Form of Entertainment
C. How to Produce Movies Based on Books
D. Why Are We Disappointed at Movies

第一节阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)
阅读下面的短文,并用英语回答问题,请注意问题后的词数要求。
Before I went to university, it seemed to be such a holy(神圣的)place. As for me, it meant glory, respect, freedom, knowledge and a promising future. I have learned much from my four years at university, such as hard work, self-control, friendship and teamwork.
University is full of competition. If you don't want to fall behind other students, you have to study very hard. Besides, the pressure of hunting for a desirable job after graduation also forces you to grasp every minute to equip yourself with as much knowledge as possible.
Self-control is another thing that I have learned in university. Here, the absence of parents' control and the loose control of the school give me more freedom. So I have to learn how to control myself.
University life makes me have a deeper understanding of friendship. Far away from my parents, my friends have become my dearest family members. When I feel lonely, they always sit beside me, let me pour out my secrets to them, and softly comfort me. When I am in trouble and feel helpless, it is my friends who reach out their hands and help me out.
Last but not least, university teaches me the importance of teamwork. There are lots of activities in university that you cannot accomplish on your own, but have to rely on your cooperation with other people.
In a few months' time, I am going to graduate from university. Looking back into the past four years, I must say that my university life is a worthwhile experience. What I have learned here has made a good preparation for my future life.

书面表达
Recently, we had a discussion on which variety of English is the best to learn. Different students have different views. Some of them are in favor of British English, as it is the language used by Shakespeare and many other great writers. Besides, the BBC and many international newspapers use it as the official language. However, other students prefer to learn American English. In their opinion, American English is widely used in most of the international business. What’s more, most of the En glish films are American English.
As for me, a few differences between British English and American English do exist, such as spelling, accent and grammar. But I don’t think people speaking the two varieties of English have any difficulty understanding each other. So it makes no difference to me whether we should learn British English or American English.。
