Our Festival
China has many traditional festivals, among which the most important one is the Spring Festival, also known as Chinese New Year.It usually falls between late January and mid-February, depending on the lunar calendar.
The Spring Festival begins with the New Year's Eve, when families gather together to have a big feast and enjoy the annual family reunion.We celebrate it by wearing new clothes, decorating our homes with red lanterns and couplets, and giving red envelopes (lucky money) to children.
Another important festival is the Dragon Boat Festival, which is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the lunar calendar.This festival commemorates the death of Qu Yuan, a famous poet and statesman who drowned himself in the river.People eat sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves, called zongzi, and compete in dragon boat races to remember Qu Yuan.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is another favorite of mine.It falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, when the moon is at its fullest and brightest.Families gather to enjoy mooncakes, a type of pastry filled with various ingredients, and to admire the beautiful moon.
Finally, the Lantern Festival, also known as the Yuanxiao Festival, is
celebrated on the 15th day of the first lunar month.People eat yuanxiao, which are sweet dumplings made of glutinous rice flour, and watch lantern displays and dragon and lion dances.
I love our festivals because they bring family and friends together, and they are full of delicious food, fun activities, and beautiful traditions.。
