Recently I came in contact with the true meaning of love. That would have been, Kane, a boy. Kane was the two-year-
old son of Jolene, my new neighbor.
At a glance Kane was a sight. He’d been born with hard sticks f or legs. And on that morning I witnessed the effect that Kane’s physical shortcomings had on his family. But I also witnessed m uch more than that.
I saw an extraordinary family that embraced this special child. A family that wouldn’t allow Kane to know he was different. Jolen e had constructed a small cart just a few inches off the floor for his son to get around. Using his hands to move about, Kane mo ved the cart to “go to” any place just as everyone else was able to do. Kane worked that little cart like a master. Kane was a vita l focus of the entire family. He was more than just a member of the family; he was the soul. This child was the driver, the motiva tor, and the founder of much of the interaction.
Much later in my life, I came to realize that God had sent this ch ild to help some of us who just weren’t getting what love was all about. Even with my limited capacity for understanding at the ti me that Kane was a highly developed spirit with great wisdom. Kane demanded attention, but not because of his mobility chall enges or other apparent shortcomings. In his mind, he had no c hallenges or shortcomings. The truth is that he received attentio
n because he was alive and real and had so much to offer. Kane was and still is a lot of warm and powerful energy sent to us all, so we might learn that love surpasses all things. Kane, a fragile yet lovely baby, was here to teach us all an important les son. And at the age of two he did just that.

Having a great collection of books at home doesn’t really mean that you are a person who has a passion for literature and readi ng. It can be a family inheritance or it can be just to impress pe ople around you by the fact that you are a person of culture. On the other hand, there are many persons who cannot afford to b
uy books, because some of them are quite expensive, but who usually go to libraries and spend hours reading something that i nterests them a lot, or just borrow books to home.
From my point of view, literature is very important in our life. For example, reading is a means of gaining culture and enriching o ur knowledge in different areas. It can help us have a great ima gination and it makes things easier when it comes to make com positions on different themes. It gives you the possibility to spea k about science, even if you don’t work in this domain, or you c an express your opinion about a political aspect, just because y ou have read something connected to that.
Secondly, literature offers us the possibility to enter the world of imagination, and to leave the real one for a couple of hours. W e come to meet kings and queens many years ago, dream of b eing in the world of the rich or imagine how life will be in the fut ure. Sometimes, we identify ourselves with the characters in the stories we read and they can give us some clues to solve our p roblems and how to react in certain circumstances.
In conclusion, I would like to say that literature is the perfect me ans to enrich our culture, to express ourselves correctly, to hav e a rich vocabulary, to be able to interfere in conversations in di fferent fields of interest and to really be considered an erudite p erson.
71. People who are fond of literature are those that ________ .
A. have much interest in reading
B. keep many books
C. go to libraries every day
D. buy expensive books in t he bookstore
72. According to the author we can broaden our knowledge by ________ .
A. composing
B. imagining
C. communicating
D. rea ding
73. We can know from the third paragraph that ___________ .
A. we can bring kings and queens back to life
B. it is very good for us to stay alone for some hours
C. what we read can be useful in our daily life
D. we can make friends with people in the stories
74. The underline word “erudite” in Paragraph 4 probably mean s “_______”.
A. learned
B. enthusiastic
C. smart
D. creative
75. What is the author’s purpose by writing the passage?
A. To share his own reading experience.
B. To distinguish the true readers.
C. To attract people to literature.
D. To stress the importance of imagination.

Dear Peter,
I am very glad to receive your letter, in which you asked me abo ut family tradition recently referred to on CCTV and meanwhile among the masses. Different families hold different focuses of f amily tradition, such as unity, love and care, honesty, diligence, respect and responsibility.
Now, I’d like to introduce ours to you — hard-
working, which my family would appreciate permanently. In the morning, my grandma usually gets up early, prepares us a goo d breakfast, and then begins to do other jobs. She works slowly , but always makes everything clean. Under the influence of my grandmother, my mother also does quite well both in her work and at home. Because of this attitude, every year she was titled "outstanding communist." After dinner, she often gives up enter tainment, helping our family with housework. It’s my grandmoth
er and my mother's diligent deeds that make me believe that if t here is dirt just mop it repeatedly, never quitting until removing i t. I serve as a good help to my teachers and classmates as well as my family. Hardworking has deeply rooted in my heart in the form of invisible power.
