第1题.
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
During my first seven semesters as a medical student at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, I spent most of my time studying in classrooms and I rarely spoke with real patients in a hospital setting.
Then I started visiting the neurology ward(神经内科病房)at Dr. Sardjito Hospital, where I was gathering data for my paper. At the hospital I would review the medical records of newly admitted stroke patients, and interview them to find out if they took the pills.
One cold, rainy evening last October, I was in the hospital desperately "hunting" for the final three patients I needed to complete my study. The records showed that there was a 43-year-old stroke patient, whom I will call Ms A. Holding a patient questionnaire, I walked towards her room. Ms A was lying on bed 4B, clearly still weak. There were no nurses, relatives or friends with her. I sat down on a chair next to her, and asked how she was doing. She softly replied that she was getting better. When I told her that I wanted to gather some information from her, she agreed.
After I finished, I prepared to leave so that I could go through more medical records. Before I could stand up, Ms A spoke up in her weak voice, "I haven't seen you here before, doc. Are you new?" "Not really. I don't come here every day," I replied. She started making conversation, asking why I was
working so late in the evening. I was surprised someone in her condition would want to talk.
Soon Ms A started talking about herself. She told me that she had three children in primary school, who were staying with a neighbour. "My husband died a year ago and I'm the sole breadwinner of my family," said she.

I didn't know what to say. ________
A single tear suddenly fell from the corner of her eye. ________
【答案】
I didn't know what to say. Looking into her eyes, I cursed myself for not remembering the lessons from my previous courses on communication skills. Since I didn't have anything to say, I just listen attentively while she talked. The conversation went on like this for about 20 minutes. She shared her difficulties and sufferings. Meanwhile, all I did was nod my head as a way of showing my sympathy.
A single tear suddenly fell from the corner of her eve. "Thank you, doc, thank you so much. I'm sorry for keeping you here to listen to my problems, but I feel relieved now." I smiled and continued to listen. Just at this very moment, it suddenly dawned on me that Ms A had taught me one of the most important lessons a doctor can learn. Sometimes what patients need might not be expensive medicine or state-of-the-art technology. Instead, patients may simply need a patient heart, willing ears and a little time. For me, that is one of the best things a doctor can do for a patient.

Mike licked the last of the mint chocolate chip ice cream. It was almost time to leave. He jumped into the car with his parents and headed off to the Olympic﹣sized pool for the big swim meet.
When his race came up, Mike was confident. He was strong and swift. Mike climbed out the pool, smiling. He had just won first place, making him the fastest boy in his age group.
"Congratulations, son, " his father said. His mom gave him a hug, even though he was soaking wet.
A week later, it was time for another swim meet. Like before, Mike decided to enjoy his favorite ice cream flavor. Mike remembered that the last time he had won a race, he also ate mint chocolate chip ice cream first. Maybe he'd win again.
He took first place again in his race. Mike was feeling pretty good. As it turned out, Mike decided to have mint chocolate chip ice cream before every one of the next few swim meets. He began to think of it as his lucky charm. After several mouths of placing in the top positions of every race he
swam, Mike was feeling unbeatable. And he wouldn't admit it, but all that ice cream was adding a few pounds to his athletic swimmer's build.
It didn't take long after that for Mike to start coming in second place﹣﹣﹣and then third﹣﹣﹣and then last place in his races. The lucky mint chocolate chip ice cream had lost its magic.
On the day of his next swim meet, his mother sat down at the table with him. "Mike, we all love ice cream, bu it's not healthy for your body to eat so much of it. Maybe it's time to quit the sweet treats for a while, especially before you go swimming."
Mike unwillingly agreed. He went to the swim meet, and didn't perform well. His father offered to go running with him a few days a week to help him feel better and strengthen his muscles. The extra weight soon disappeared, and Mike found himself breathing easier at swim practices.Paragraph 1: It was the last meet of the season, and Mike wasn't sure what to expect.___________
Paragraph 2: Finally came the end of the race.______________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1:It was the last meet of the season, and Mike wasn't sure what to expect. Without his lucky mint chocolate chip ice cream, he was at a loss, as his highlights of this season flashed back into his mind constantly. He shook his head trying to clean those thoughts, but failed. "Can I get the first place? "He was still in ruins when standing at the platform. Suddenly, a sharp whistle brought him back to earth, but he had already fallen behind."It doesn't matter!"he whispered to himself, diving into the pool. To his surprise, the cold water enabled him to keep his attention. Gradually, he found his best rhythm and his breath became stable as before.
(Mike跳水迟了一些,但是很快专注,游得越来越有节奏)
Paragraph 2:Finally came the end of the race. He cast a glance to his opponents and notice there was only a short interval between him and the lead. "Come on! Just do it!"he encouraged himself to swing his exhausted hands, as if he was fighting for his life.【高分句型一】 One second, two seconds, he closed his eyes and speeded up his kick to make a last dash. When he touched the finish end, he was overjoyed to see that he had
left everyone behind.【高分句型二】 He was the first place again! He jumped up and down in the pool, beating the water wildly. The audience were all on their feet, and the hall burst into thunderous applause. When he climbed out the pool, he was greeted with a big hug. "Congratulations, son!" his parents said, grinning from ear to ear. At that time, he realized that the ice cream wasn't the lucky charm, but diligence was the mother of good luck! It was the time to leave. He noticed the ice cream shop, smiled and walked away without another glance.

Several years ago, I divorced with my husband and I had no choice but to bring up my three children alone. Money was always tight. After work, I still found several part-time jobs. Even so, I could just make ends meet. I always told myself to be brave and strong, just for my three children. What I desired most was that my children could grow up healthily. Several days before the Lunar New Year, we went downtown to see the New Year lights and enjoyed a special dinner, but the big excitement for the kids was the fun of New Year shopping at the mall. This was a tradition of my family, so they all looked forward to the coming of the season. They had been talking and planning for weeks ahead of time, asking each other what they wanted for the festival.
The big day arrived and we started out early. I gave each of the three kids 100 yuan and asked them to choose gifts for themselves. Then everyone ran away with the money. I sat at a table in a cafe waiting for my children and enjoying an instant of silence. It must be a happy day.
On the way home, everyone was excited about the New Year, laughing and asking each other what they had bought. I noted Mary, my youngest daughter came back empty-handed. What did she do with the money I had given her? I was so angry. After getting home, I called her into my bedroom and closed the door. I couldn't hold back my anger and shouted at her, "Where is your money? How did you deal with the money I gave you?"

Paragraph 2:

【答案】Paragraph 1:

Suddenly, an old lady in rags came into her sight, who seemed to be poor and homeless. Since it was the Spring Festival, she thought the old lady might need a gift as well. So my daughter took out her 100 yuan and bought a pair of warm boots for her. Though she didn't buy anything for herself, she felt it worthwhile.
Paragraph 2:
After hearing that, I wasn't angry anymore. Never had I thought my daughter had her own idea of helping others. I felt regretful. How I wished I had listened to her explanation earlier! I said, "Oh, dear, it is your own right to deal with the money. Whatever you do, I should be supportive. Forgive me!" She said nothing but to give me a big smile. 续写的词数应为150左右。
We were three thousand miles away from home on a Random Acts of Kindness and Volunteerism Road Trip. We were short of money, so we had two goals today:
1. Try out our new "Smile!" signs and see how much kindness and joy we could spread in Pike place Market.
2. Raise at least 80 by doing street performances. Singing, drawing or storytelling. This would be enough for gas lo Portland and a small hotel room.
We weren't sure how people would react to our signs. It's so easy to walk past a busy crowd, lost in your own world, refusing to make eye-contact with strangers, and feeling alone despite being surrounded by hundreds of people just like you. Finally, I gathered courage to raise our signs and shouted, "Hi here!" to a young couple. They looked over, confused for a moment, read my sign and broke into smiles. Then we saw more smiling faces in the crowd.
Before long, our signs were wildly popular. Tourists wanted photos with us. Strangers stopped to ask us about our signs. We told them the story of our acts of kindness road trip and listened to their stories, too.
Sometimes I'd see unfriendly faces and feel particularly to show them my bright sign. But I was always rewarded with a big smile whenever I did so. Suddenly they were no longer faces of strangers but those of neighbors and friends. This world is full of good people we just don't know yet. We got so wrapped up in our wonderful "Smile!" project that we forgot the other goal. Before we knew it, the sun was setting, and we had no money for our trip to Portland.
We sat down to watch a musician play the guitar while we thought about our second goal. ________
Our little band of five attracted a large audience. ________
【答案】
We sat down to watch a musician play the guitar while we thought about our second goal. It seemed that it was tough to achieve. Now we didn't have much time to lose. Suddenly, a good idea flashed through my mind. I gathered my courage and walked straight toward the musician and asked him to do us a favor. To our great delight, he enthusiastically supported our money project and agreed to form a band with us. With an empty hat on the ground in front of us, we began our performance.
Our little band of five attracted a large audience. We received a storm of applause. A gentleman in his fifties was the first to put some change into our hat. His act of kindness was soon followed by more donations. A little boy, holding his mom's hand, carefully dropped a coin and gave us the most beautiful smile in the world. Before it was dark we were sure we had made it. The amount of money gathered totaled 92. What a sweet victory! We thanked the musician and went on with our journey. In the depth of my heart, I would keep these heartwarming moments forever.

It was time to go home. "Remember to work on your class speeches for homework," Miss Walker called as everyone started talking and packing their school bags. Jenny felt sick. She hated having to read aloud in class. She was sure everyone got really bored listening to her. Once, when Jenny was reading out her holiday diary, Lee was even looking at his watch, a silver and blue one which seemed just magical.
Jenny watched Lee walk ahead of her as they left school. He seemed so clever, and he had a certain sort of shining confidence. He was just one of those people who were good at everything. Jenny sighed. As she turned the corner, she saw Lee's watch lying right in the middle of the path.
Jenny knew she should just pick it up and return it to him, but she didn't want to run after him. Jenny bent down quickly, picked up the watch and ran home. On arriving home, Jenny put it on almost without thinking. She was surprised to find it fitted so well. She walked to the mirror and started practicing her speech. Words just flooded out of her. "I'm going to talk about swimming. I have been lucky. I've won lots of competitions. But when I'm in a race, I'm not really thinking about winning. I'm just loving the feeling of being
in the water..." Jenny laughed with excitement. She walked across the room. She suddenly seemed to have a certain sort of confidence. Turning back to the mirror, Jenny saw a flash of light from the watch in the glass. The flashes of silver seemed almost magical. So maybe Lee's watch really did have something magic about it.
The next day, as the lesson began, Miss Walker asked who was going to be brave and go first. Nobody moved. Jenny slowly raised her arm. Before Miss Walker could say anything, there was a shout from behind. "She's stolen my watch!" Lee said angrily, "It went missing at school yesterday."

Jenny was relieved, saying she had found it on the way home and decided to return it after the speech. Everybody was puzzled and asked why. Jenny was speechless again.
Paragraph 2:
