定语从句:在复合句中修饰某一名词或代词的从句叫定语从句。

1) 定语从句的位置:放在被修饰词的后面。

如:The man who has an umbrella in his hand is my uncle.
(手上拿着一把雨伞的人是我的叔叔。

)
2) 相关语法术语:被修饰的名词或代词称为先行词;引导定语从句的连接词
称为________,其中that、which、who(宾格whom,,所有格whose)称为__________,where、when、why称为________。

关系代词和关系副词放在先行词及定语从句之间起连接作用,同时又作定语从句的重要成分。

3) 关系代词的用法(在从句中作主语或是宾语)
① that 既可以用于指人,也可以用于指物。

在从句中作主语或宾语,作主语
时不可省略,作宾语可省略。

如:
Can you give me anything that has no sugar inside?(that作主语,指物)
能不能给我点里面没有糖的东西?
The coat (that)I put on the desk is blue.(that作宾语,指物)
我放在桌子上的外套是蓝色的。

Who is the man that is reading the book over there? (that作主语,指人)
在那边看书的那个人是谁?
The girl (that) we saw yesterday is Jim’s sister. (that作宾语,指人)
我们昨天看到的女孩是吉姆的妹妹。

whose用来指人或物, 只用作定语,如:They rushed over to help the man whose car had broken down. (whose做定语,指人)
他们冲过去帮助那个汽车坏了的男人。
