Devon Gallagher, a college graduate from Philadelphia, wants the world to know exactly where she’s been during her world wide vacation in a special way.
The traveler, who was born with a bone disease, had her right leg amputated(截肢) at the age of four. Although
the amputation caused setbacks for Gallagher early on, she n ow sees it as inspiration for living her best life. To spread that message, Gallagher has taken to social media, where she sh ares photos of her travels across the globe, but instead of usi ng geo-tag (地理位置标
签), she writes her location across her artificial leg before taki ng a picture. Now she has been taking pictures across the Co ntinent, which show her cycling over the canal in Amsterdam, Holland, relaxing on a wall overlooking the city of Barcelona, Spain, posing with a waffle (华夫
饼) in Brussels, Belgium, taking in the impressive Parthenon t emple in Athens, Greece, and enjoying a river cruise in Budap est,
Hungary, all with the well-
known locations written on her artificial leg.
“I get a new leg every two years and I can choose the design on it. One day I had a sudden thought to get a chalk-board,” Gallagher said. “My mum and grandmother weren’t to
o keen on the idea, but my friends thought it was great and tol d me to go for it, so I did.”
“When I’m writing on my leg, people often stare, looking puzzl ed, but once I share the photos, I receive only positive feedba ck. Seeing this, I feel much fired up and decide to try more. M y leg hasn’t stopped me from doing anything I’ve wanted to do . I don’t know if it’s my determination to prove to myself that I can do it, but regardless, I’ve been able to keep up with my pe ers and lead a pretty great life,” said Gallagher.
Gallagher shows us that you should never let anything stand i n the way of your dreams. And if life gives you an artificial leg, make art.
What message does Gallagher want to spread in her special way? A.She suffers little from her leg amputation.
She has become healthier after traveling globally.
She looks on her misfortune as another form of blessing.
She has exactly fallen in love with posting photos online.
How does Gallagher record her travels across the globe? A.By keeping a personal journal of her travels across the world. By sharing pictures with locations written on her artificial leg. By describing the impressive scenic spots in detail.
By interacting with her family and friends on social media.
What encourages Gallagher to continue in the face of others’confusion about her behavior? A.People’s positive feedback . B.The peer pressure.
C.The recovery from her bone disease.
D.The support from her relatives.
Which of the following can best describe Gallagher?
Helpful and ambitious. B.Friendly and generous. C.Determined and creative.
D.Independent and sensitive.

In between all the measures to battle the severe air pollution i n Delhi, India, there’s one more option—
a bar that has “pure air”.
Founded by Aryavir Kumar, Oxy Pure, Delhi’s first-
ever oxygen bar, offers 15 minutes of 80-
90 percent pure oxygen, costing Rs 299($4.2). Customers are given a lightweight tube for oxygen intake. The device(装置) is placed near the customer’s nostrils(鼻
孔)through which they are advised to breathe in the oxygen. The bar also offers its customers several aromas(气
味)to go with oxygen, including lemongrass, cherry and more. According to the aroma people choose, each session p
romises to improve sleep patterns and digestion, cure headac hes, and even claims to work as a treatment for depression. Bonny Irengbam, a senior sales assistant at the bar, said, “So me people, who try it for the first time, will feel relaxed and fre sh. But only people who do this regularly will get real benefits. By regularly, I mean once or twice a month. We don’t encour age back-to-
back sessions, as increased levels of oxygen in the body can make a person dizzy.”
Dr.Rajesh Chawla, a senior doctor at the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, said, “Even if you breathe in the so- called pure oxyg en for two hours in a day, you will go back to breathing the pol luted air for the rest of the 22 hours. The concept is purely mo ney-driven.”
Recalling the first few months of the bar, Irengbam admitted t hat people were sceptical. “Many people criticised, saying we were selling air. Others were simply scared to breathe throug h the tube.”
Irengbam said the bar saw a significant rise in the number of customers two to three days after Diwali, an Indian festival ma inly celebrated by fireworks and lights, as the pollution levels were high.
What do we know about the oxygen intake?
It surely has a promising future.
It will always cause side effects.

It can cure people of depression.
Which of the following can replace “back-to-
back” in Paragraph 4?

Most of us marry creativity to our concept of self, either we’re “creative” or we aren’t, without much of a middle ground. “I’m j ust not a creative person!” a frustrated student might say in ar
t class, while another might blame her talent at painting for he r difficulties in math, giving a comment such as, “I’m very right -brained.”
Dr. Pillay, a tech entrepreneur and an assistant professor at H arvard University, has been challenging these ideas. He belie ves that the key to unlocking your creative potential is to ignor e the traditional advice that urges you to “believe in yourself. ” In fact, you should do the opposite: believe you are someone else.
Dr. Pillay points to a 2016 study demonstrating the impact of s tereotypes on one’s behavior. The authors, educational psych ologists Denis Dumas and Kevin Dunbar, divided their college student subjects into three groups, instructing the members o f one to think of themselves as “romantic poets” and the mem bers of another to imagine they were “serious librarians” (the t hird group was the control). The researchers then presented a ll the participants with ten ordinary objects, including a fork, a carrot, and a pair of pants, and asked them to come up with a s many different uses as possible for each one. Those who w ere asked to imagine themselves as romantic poets came up with the widest range of ideas, whereas those in the serious li brarian group had the fewest. Meanwhile, the researchers fou nd only small differences in students’ creativity levels across a
cademic majors.
These results suggest that creativity is not a fixed individual c haracteristic but a “malleable product of context and perspecti ve, as long as he or she feels like a creative person. Dr. Pillay argues that, besides identifying yourself as creative, taking th e bold, creative step of imagining you are somebody else is e ven more powerful. So, wish you were more creative? Just pr etend!
According to the passage, who is more likely to unlock his cre ative potential?
An biology major who always believes in himself.
A math major who has excellent academic performance.
A physics major who likes to imagine himself as a poet.
A history major who works as a librarian on weekends.
What does the Study conducted by Denis Dumas and Kevin Dunbar focus on?
The creativity of the college students.
The stereotypes of the college students.
The impact of stereotypes on one’s behavior.
The influence of creativity on one’s behavior.
The underlined word in the last paragraph probably means ?
understandable B. bearable C. predictable
D. changeable
Dr Pillay may agree with the statement that .
there is no doubt that we are either creative or not
a student who doesn’t do well in art class is not creative
right brain determines whether a person is creative or not
if we pretend to be creative, then we might be really creative

How Can I Fight Laziness?
Lazy people will never gain anything in life. However, laziness can be defeated once a few changes have been made in you r mind.
36 Many people lack sleep constantly, since they stay up too late and get up too early to prepare for work. These p
eople have little motivation once they arrive home. Laziness w orks hand in hand with a lack of motivation and a tendency to put off things. By adjusting your sleep schedule to provide a f ew more hours of meaningful rest, you can fight laziness thro ughout the day.
Another way to fight laziness is to change your mind from pas sive to active. Some people treat their lives as if they were pu shed from task to task. Others take a more positive approach, viewing each task as a challenge they must overcome alone.
37
Some people fight laziness by removing the temptations(诱惑) that surround them. A television in the living
room may provide entertainment, but watching too much TV often contributes to laziness. 38 Complete a few tas ks and reward yourself with what you enjoy, such as a good di nner or a film.
Laziness can also be a lasting problem at home. Couples and children may all have different energy levels, but laziness can be spread if not dealt with immediately. 39 Be the first t o collect and wash dishes after a meal. Others in the home may eventually follow you and perform their own task. It is diffi cult to practice laziness when you are surrounded by motivate d people.
40 Enough exercise and a balanced diet can help you to develop a healthy lifestyle, thus enabling you to have more energy and help lift your spirits.
Knowing how to fight laziness is important.
To fight family laziness, set an example.
Finally, working out regularly can help you fight laziness.
One way to fight laziness is to get enough sleep.
Create a reward system for yourself, just as parents do for a c hild.
Laziness appears when you no longer feel in charge of your o wn mind.
With strong determination, you will be able to achieve your go al.
