As a high school student, Ive had the unique privilege of witnessing the dedication and effort my mother has put into helping me learn English. From the moment I was introduced to the language, she has been my biggest supporter and motivator. Her approach to my English education has been a blend of traditional and innovative methods, which I believe has significantly contributed to my proficiency in the language.
My mothers journey with me started with the basics. She understood that the foundation of any language is its alphabet, and so she began by teaching me the English alphabet. We would sit together, with her pointing at each letter and me repeating after her. She made it a fun activity by associating each letter with an object or an animal, which helped me remember them better. For instance, A was for Apple and B was for Banana. This visual and auditory association made the learning process enjoyable and less daunting.
As I progressed, she introduced me to simple words and phrases. She would write them on flashcards and quiz me during our daily walks. This constant reinforcement helped me internalize the vocabulary. She also encouraged me to read English books, starting with childrens stories and gradually moving on to more complex literature. She would sit with me, explaining the meaning of new words and discussing the plot of the stories. This not only improved my vocabulary but also my comprehension skills.
One of the most effective strategies my mother employed was to immerse me in English. She would switch our household language to English for a
day or two every week. This was a challenge at first, as it was difficult to express complex thoughts in a language that was not my first. However, it pushed me to think in English and improved my fluency. She also encouraged me to watch English movies and TV shows, which helped me understand the nuances of the language, including slang and colloquial expressions.
My mother was also a firm believer in the power of practice. She would often set up mock conversations for me to practice speaking. She would play different roles, from a friend to a teacher, and I would have to respond in English. This helped me become more comfortable with speaking English and improved my conversational skills.
Moreover, she recognized the importance of grammar in mastering a language. She would patiently explain the rules of grammar to me and make me practice them through exercises and quizzes. She also encouraged me to keep a diary in English, which helped me apply the grammar rules in a practical context.
In addition to these methods, my mother also sought external help when necessary. She enrolled me in English classes and hired a tutor when she felt I needed additional support. She also made sure I participated in English language competitions and debates, which boosted my confidence and provided me with a platform to showcase my skills.
My mothers efforts have not gone unnoticed. My proficiency in English has improved significantly, and I have been able to excel in my school English
exams. More importantly, I have been able to communicate effectively in English, both in written and spoken forms. I am grateful for her unwavering support and the time she has invested in helping me learn English.
In conclusion, my mothers approach to helping me learn English has been a combination of patience, dedication, and innovative methods. She has not only focused on the technical aspects of the language but also ensured that I enjoy the learning process. Her efforts have paid off, and I am now able to communicate confidently in English. I believe that her methods can be a guide for other parents who are looking to help their children learn English effectively.。
