Friday, June 6th, happens to be National Donut(甜甜圈) Day. Since the only way to celebrate this important holiday is by eating the sweet rings, you really have no choice but to eat up a few or even more than ten!
And while it may sound like a special celebration dreamt up by donut factories to increase sales, the idea of the holiday can be followed all the way back to World War One. In 1917, when women volunteers were sent to look after injured US soldiers, they noticed how homesick the men were. To try to cheer them up, the women decided to make donuts for the soldiers. Not surprisingly, the treats worked well!
In 1938, when the “Great Depression(大萧条)” happened to the country, volunteers from Chicago spent a day selling fresh donuts. However this time around it was not just to cheer up American people, but also to raise money for the charity(慈善). The event was such a success that it is now celebrated every year by the whole country, on the first Friday of June. What's even better is that this year, Dunkin Donuts is giving away free donuts with drink, making it the first World Donut Day! Many stores take part in this fun tradition, so be sure to check if you are ready to give out free treats!
If you're among the few persons that don't like the taste of donuts, you can celebrate by selling donuts to your friends and family and giving money to charity like volunteers. It is after all thanks to them, that we have this fun tradition.

Pappadavada, a popular restaurant in Kochi, India, is encouraging customers and the community to put their leftover food in a fridge located outside of the restaurant for the hungry to take.
People who are in need of a meal are encouraged to take from the fridge at any time, for any reason. Minu Pauline, who runs Pappadavada, has nicknamed the fridge, which was placed there on March 23 and is shaded by a neighbouring tree, “tree of goodness”.
The fridge is open 24 hours a day, seven d ays a week and stays unlocked. Pauline asks that people write the date they left the food, so those who take know how long it's been there. But most food doesn't stay in the fridge for long. In spite of a huge response(回应) from the community
and plenty of donations, the fridge needs to be brought more in to replace in time. Pauline herself adds around 75% to 80% of food from Pappadavada a day in the fridge.
The idea to put a fridge on the street came to Pauline late one night when she saw a lady searching in a trashcan(垃圾箱) for food. She was especially saddened because that particular night, her restaurant had made a ton of food that they could have easily given the woman, instead of her searching for it. She felt like she contributed to waste, and avoiding waste is what Pauline pays her attention to.
“The only thing I want to say no is that people are actually buying food and putting it in the fridge. But I'd rather people put their food they bought but aren't going to eat in the fridge instead of the trashc an,” she said.

Now students' English handwriting gets worse and worse. That makes their teachers feel worried. Is your English handwriting beautiful? If not, here are four steps that really work!
◆Use paper that has lines.
Using paper that has lines can keep your writing straight when you write English words or sentences. 12 Be sure to fill the lined space completely. And make sure those capital letters(大写字母) are written properly.
◆Slow down.
If your handwriting is hard to read, try slowing down a little. 13 If you write too fast, it's hard for you to stop where you should, and even worse, you may make more mistakes.
◆ 14
When you hold your pencil in the correct way, writing is much easier. Some kids press down really hard when they write. That makes the handwriting not nice. Try to relax yourself and don't hold the pencil so hard. Let your writing appear nice and neat. If you do so, people will think you are a student with a good habit.
◆Draw more pictures.
Drawing can improve your handwriting. You need to use the skills to control your pencil better when you are drawing pictures. Even though you have no chance to draw at school, you can practice
by yourself at home.
15 Imagine you are a worldfamous movie star or a wellknown sports player, what do you do when fans run up to you? Give them your autographs(亲笔签名), of course!

Have you ever thought of why dogs are human's best friends? What's the bond(紧密关系) between human and dogs?A new study by Japanese scientist Miho Nagas awa seems to have found the answer, and it has to do with something named the cuddle(拥抱) chemical.
The cuddle chemical has another, more scientific name: oxytocin(催产素). Oxytocin is something in the blood that encourages bonding. Levels of oxytocin increase, for example, when a mother feeds her newborn baby. According to Nagasawa's study, levels of oxytocin can also go up when we look deeply into the eyes of a dog.
Humans and dogs have been working together for nearly 30,000 years. In order to better understand how the cuddle chemical worked between dogs and humans, Nagasawa and his team did an experiment. They tested levels of oxytocin in dogs and humans, and then put them in a room to interact(交流) with each other. While in the room, the humans pet the dogs, spoke to the dogs, and looked into the dogs' eyes. Then the scientists tested their levels of oxytocin again.
The researchers found that levels of oxytocin were higher in both humans and dogs after they interacted. However, levels were the highest in the humans and dogs that simply looked into each other's eyes, without much petting or talking. The longer the humans looked into the eyes of the dogs, the more cuddle chemical was let out. Nagasawa did the same experiment with humans and wolves(狼), but it did not give the same results.

“It's very exciting to find a planet similar to the Earth,” Barclay said. “It's not easy work because things change as we get more measurements. ”
Scientists don't know anything about the air of Kepler186f, but it will be a task for future telescopes that can study for chemicals that have something to do with life.

So far, scientists have found nearly 1,800 planets in the universe.

“Chinese style road crossing” refers to large crowds of Chinese
people crossing roads, no matter whether the traffic light is green or red.
Maybe you really don't want to cross the road like that in your deep heart
but you still do that for some reasons.
Indeed, the phenomenon(现象) of pedestrians running the red light is
commonly seen in some cities. It has occurred because people share the
common reason that the law cannot be enforced(实施;执行)when everyone is
an offender(冒犯者). In the fastpaced life, some people lack of safety
awareness and cannot wait for the green light. Therefore, some basic regulations have been thrown aside.
Today, the design of traffic lights in big cities is friendlier to cars. For example, green light for cars is usually longer than for pedestrians. As roads become wider, many elderly and children cannot cross them even though they run all the way. Therefore, if they don't run the red light when crossing the road, they will be stuck in the middle.
Since the second half of 2012, all kinds of measures have been made to punish those who run the red traffic lights. Shenzhen in Guangdong Province issued a traffic rule in December 2012, that a jaywalker will either be fined 20 yuan or be a temporary traffic assistant to help maintain order by wearing a green vest. In Beijing, starting from May 6, 2013, a jaywalker will face a fine of 10 yuan; a nonmotorized vehicle will be fined 20 yuan for the same disregard of the rules.
In my opinion, we should analyze(分析) the reasons for running the red light comprehensively(全面地), instead of blindly punishing them. We should strengthen education and awareness of obeying traffic rules. Encourage drivers to learn the driving awareness in developed countries, put the traffic lights in a scientific way and take necessary management measures. In this case, the traffic order in China will be greatly improved.
12.“Chinese style road crossing” means.
