mpa考试英文作文I. Well, the MPA exam was quite challenging, to say the least. I mean, the questions were no joke. They really tested my knowledge and understanding of public administration. It was tough, but I did my best to answer each question to the best of my ability. I hope my efforts paid off.II. One thing that really stood out to me during the exam was the emphasis on practical application. It wasn't just about regurgitating theories and concepts, but rather how well I could apply them to real-world scenarios. This really pushed me to think critically and analytically, and I believe it's an important skill for any public administrator to have.III. Another aspect of the exam that caught myattention was the focus on ethical considerations. There were several questions that presented ethical dilemmas and asked for my opinion on the best course of action. It mademe realize just how important ethics is in the field of public administration. As public servants, we have a responsibility to act in the best interest of the public, and ethical decision-making is crucial in fulfilling that responsibility.IV. Time management was definitely a challenge during the exam. With a limited amount of time to answer all the questions, I had to be strategic in my approach. I had to prioritize which questions to answer first and allocate my time accordingly. It was a test of not only my knowledge but also my ability to work under pressure and make quick decisions.V. One thing I appreciated about the exam was the opportunity to showcase my problem-solving skills. There were several questions that presented complex issues and asked for potential solutions. This allowed me to demonstrate my ability to think critically and come up with innovative ideas. It was a great way to assess my readiness to tackle real-world problems as a public administrator.VI. Overall, the MPA exam was a challenging yet rewarding experience. It tested not only my knowledge but also my ability to apply that knowledge in practical situations. It highlighted the importance of ethics, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills in the field of public administration. While it was tough, I believe it was a necessary step in preparing me for a successful career in this field.。

MPA英语联考必背作文1、There are many ways of traveling, the most common ways being by train,by air, by bus or in a car.Traveling by train is currently the most economical way, far cheaper than traveling by air. However, air travel is timesaving and therefore often the top choice for people traveling on business or traveling abroad. Traveling by bus is probably convenient mostly for short-distance trip. But with the development of expressways in China, and with more people having their own car, traveling by bus or in one’s own car would become fashionable and enjoyable in China. For me, my favorite way of touring is traveling by train, because it saves money and gives us the delight of enjoying the scenery alongside our journey.2、Today in China, with people’s li ving standard greatly enhanced, fatness has become a headache for more and more people.Gaining too much weight does harm to our health. To fight against fat, many people turn to the numerous types of medicine, which all claim to have special effects, but do not actually lead to permanent weight loss. Others would choose to be on diet but only to find them forever hungry and have greater appetite. Still others would go to fatness center, making it a fashionable way of modern life.Personally, I think inactivity is an important contributor to fatness and therefore exercise is the only healthy way to reduce appetite, taking off weight and keeping it off.3、Some people work to live. For them the only reason for working is thatthey need money to keep themselves alive, to pay for their shelter, and to support their family. However, there are also people who live to work. They work for the sake of success, position and control in society. For them, work is a way of life,a mental challenge, or an emotional involvement. Take some women for instance, they go out to work because it gives them a sense of independence away from the family. As for me, to work is a fundamental human need and a means to an end. However,I work not just for money, because I also see it as a badge of fulfillment.4、POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE ASPECTS OF SPORTS".Sports benefit us in many respects. When taking part in sports, we get the chance to train almost all parts of our bodies. There is no doubt that proper sports activities keep our physical fitness. Furthermore, sports can enrich our life and maintain our psychological health. Through participation, everyone can learn that on the playground he not only struggles for himself but also fights for his team. Sports teach us about consideration, cooperation and optimism to failure. But sports can do some harm to those who cannot plan their activities properly. Too hard training may hurt their bodies, exhaust their vigor, and even cause them to become sick.In general, I love sports. I enjoy sports. For sports not only help me to live a well-balanced life, but also provide me with opportunities to get closer to nature. Sports add happiness to my everyday life when I perform in a decent way. 关于爱心(01年真题)Love is a lamp[1.现象/现状说明段]Love is of utmost importance to us humans. Everybody not only needs love, but also should give others love. As can be seen from the picture, "love is a lamp which is brighter in darker places. " This is indeed true. People in darker places need more light than other people. Maybe even a dim light can give them much hope for a better life. Maybe just a thread of light will call forth their strength and courage to help them step out of their difficulties.[7.举例段] I can think of no better illustration of this idea than the following example(s).For instance when someone is starving to death, just a little food and water from you may save his(her) life. Again, when a little girl in a poor rural area drops out of school because of poverty, just a small sum of money from you may support her to finish school and change her life. In these case/circumstances you have given love which is like a lamp in a dark place where light is most needed.[8.归纳结论段] To sum up, we should offer our help to all the needed. We expect to get love from others and we also give love to others. So when you see someone in difficulty or in distress and in need of help, don't hesitate to give your love to him (her). I believe that the relationship between people will be harmonious and that our society will be a better place for us to live in.2. 空气污染(隐形杀手)[2.图画/图表描述段] Pollution is becoming more and more serious all over the world. As is shown in the cartoon, two cars are giving off waste gas and three people are trying to avoid breathing in the poisonous gas by masking their face with their hands. The poisonous gas sent off by factories, domestic appliances and automobiles has made the air unhealthy for people to breathe.[5.意义阐述段] There is no denying that automobiles are indications of civilization, progress and development; nevertheless , automobiles cause the serious problem of air pollution. Scientists have warned that unless effective measures are taken, the problem of pollution will eventually get out of hand. Actually, people are showing a real concern over the problem. For example, there is an increasingly loud voice from the public for firm action against pollution from automobiles.[10建议措施段]Indeed, the earth is our home and we have the duty to take care of it for ourselves and for our descendants. In my opinion, we should work out concrete solutions to the problem of pollution from poisonous gas given off by automobiles. For example, the automobiles should be equipped with a device which can dispose of waste gas so as to prevent it from polluting air. Only in this way can we really solve the problem of air pollution caused by automobiles.3. 沙漠化[2.图画/图表描述段]As is shown in the picture, we can see clearly the relation ship between people and desert. In the left hand picture, people are fleeing from greedy sand hills because they cut down all the trees. The caption reads, ”As the sand advances, we retreat.” In the right hand picture, the people have returned carrying tools, water, and young trees to plant the land again. The caption reads: “As we advance, the sand ret reats. ”[5.意义阐述段]It seems to me that the cartoonist is sending a message about the importance of trees in water and soil conservation and the need for everyone to fight against the danger of the desertification. In fact, what he is saying is that the sand hills will drive away from the land if we do fight against the sand. If we let this situation continue as it is , our environment will suffer a great destruction.[10.建议措施段]The best way to fight back against the greedy desert in made clear in the second picture. There the local people are actively setting about the task of planting trees to reclaim the land and make it fertile. The fact that there are three people in the picture, each with a different job suggests that working together is the key to success in the battle against soil erosion.4. 商业捕鱼(00年真题)A Brief History of World Commercial Fishing[2.图表描述段] As is shown in the pictures ,with the increase of commercial fishing ,the number of fishes dramatically(sharply) decreased .In one pictures ,there were various kinds of fish and only one fishing-boat in 1900 .On the contrary ,in1995 there was only one fish ,with many fishing-boats.[5.意义阐述段] The purpose of this picture is to show us that due (great enough) attention has to be paid to the decrease (decline) of ocean resources .Owing to over-fishing the number of fishes has obviously dropped .If we let this situation go (continue) as it is ,we do not know where fish will be in the future .By that time ,our environment will suffer a great destruction .[10.建议措施段] Therefore ,it is imperative for us to take drastic (effective) measures .For one thing ,we should appeal to our authorities to make strict laws to control commercial fishing .For another ,we should enhance(imperative arouse) the awareness of people that the ocean resources are very vital to us .Only in this way can we protect our ocean resources .Also I believe that we humans can overcome this difficulty ,and we will have a brighter future .第二部分图表作文(三篇)5. 人口增长对野生动物的影响(99年真题)[2.图画/图表描述段] From these graphs, we can draw a conclusion that, with the growth of human population, the number of species has decreased rapidly in America, and some species have even vanished from our planet.[6.原因列军段]Why does this phenomenon appear? There are several possible reasons for this. Above all, as the human population grows rapidly, a growing number of people came to live where some wild species have been living. Then these species have to move to other places. Some of them probably can not adapt to the new environment and die. In addition, although many people look on the wildlife as their friends, some people may not think so. They catch a lot of wild animals and sell them in order to get more money. Even worse(坏)/More importantly(好), as the result(中性) /consequence(贬义)of the industry, the natural balance and the ecologic environment are destroyed. The clear cutting has become increasingly serious. So some of the wildlife become homeless and extinct.[10.建议措施段]In order to protect the wildlife, I have some suggestions. First, the governments should make laws to prevent them from being caught and killed. Second, the governments should educate people to love nature and protect it. Third, as for ourselves, we should take practical actions to protect our living environment.6 烟草生产和消费(01年大纲样题)[1.现象/现状说明段]The majority of people would agree that cigarette smoking has caused serious problems. But the tobacco companies insist that they contribute greatly to the world economy by paying taxes to the government and employing hundreds of workers.[4.利弊说明段]Personally, I believe that cigarette production and consumption threatens to do more harm than good. Firstly, smoking is responsible for many fatal diseases such as lung cancer, heart diseases and so on. According to the survey, tobacco consumers account for about 20% of the world population, and among them, three million people die from smoking-related diseases every year. The fact that the output of tobacco production is reduced from 143.64 billion pounds in 1994 to 142 billion pounds in 1995 also suggests that people have come to realize the negative effects of smoking. Secondly, tobacco consumption is extremely wasteful of money. As is indicated in the pictures, 200 billion US dollars is lost due to smoking each year. Obviously, the total loss of money around the globe substantially exceeds the gain in the industry.[8.归纳结论段]In conclusion, as the economic development aims at making our life better, we cannot sacrifice our health for short-term financial benefits. If we have to spend more and more money providing medical services for those who suffer from smoking-related illnesses, the notion of promoting economy via tobacco production is not justifiable. It is high time that we fought for the total tobacco ban.7. 日用花销统计Statistics in People's Daily Expenses in Xi'anYearItem 1995 1996 1997 1998 1999Food 66% 61% 48% 41% 36%Clothing 9% 10% 12% 15% 18%Recreation 4% 5% 8% 9% 11%[2.图画/图表描述段]What is shown in the table above indicates that dramatic changes have taken place in the daily expenses in Xi' an from 1995 to 1999. The expenses on food have declined by 30% while those on clothing and recreation have increased respectively by 9% and 7%. The statistics of rise and fall seem to exist in isolation but closely related to one another.[6.原因列军段]There are two factors accounting for these changes. Development in economy is an essential one in the five years. The increased income resulting from economic growth plays an important part in the less expense on food. Hence, a small percentage of total income is enough to cover food expense. Another one is the changes in life style. When food presents no worry to the average, people begin to focus more of interest on handsome appearance and happy leisure time. As a result of such a shift, spending on clothing and recreation increased year after year.[9.趋势预测段]From the analyses made above, we may come to the conclusion that people's living standards in Xi' an have been constantly improved between 1995 and 1999. With the further growth in economy and more changes in life style, the tendency indicated in the table will continue in the table will continue in the better direction.第三部分事务信函(三篇)8.咨询信 A letter of InquiryYou wish to study at a certain foreign university. Write a letter inquiring about the situation there as regards accommodation, fees and qualifications.Dear SirI am a Chinese citizen who wishes to study at your university. My plan is to start my course next term, and I would be grateful if you would be kind enough to provide me with certain essential information.First, what qualifications do I need to follow a course of study at your university? I already have a master’s degree from a university here in China, but I wonder if there are any further academic requirements. Second, how much are the tuition fees? Although I intend to be self –supporting, I would be interested to hear if there are any scholarships available for international students. Third, what is the situation as regards accommodation?I would prefer a single room, which is more conducive to studying, but if single rooms are expensive, I would be willing to share.I look forward to your reply, and to attending your esteemed institution.Yours sincerely,Li Ming9. 请求信 A Letter of RequestYou find that your study load is too heavy. Write a letter to your college teacher explaining why you need to withdraw from two courses. Ask if it is possible to obtain a refund.Dear Prof. James,I am writing to formally request to withdraw from two courses: Introduction to Elementary Education (EDU 602) and Teaching Methods (EDU 619).The main reason for reducing my course load is that I am finding it extremely difficult to manage six courses. In the beginning of the term, I was perhaps overly optimistic about juggling both my full – time studies and my part –time job (20 hours/week). Because I really must work part time, I have no other choice but to decrease my course load. I am planning on taking the two courses during the summer semester, if they are available, so that I will be able to complete all the courses for the degree program by the following year.I would also like to request a tuition refund, and hope I am not too late to receive the full reimbursement.I am sorry for any inconveniences I have caused by this change in plans. This decision was not taken lightly, and I do appreciate the king consideration you have shown to me.Thank you for your attention to these requests. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 277-9144. I look forward to hearing from you soon.Sincerely yours,Jane Carter10.建议信 A Letter of Advice/SuggestionYou have a friend who is about to enter university, and he wants you to advise him on which subject to specialize in – history, in which he is very interested, or computer science, which offers better job prospects.Dear John,You have asked me for my advice concerning whether you should study history or computer science at university, and I will try to make some useful suggestions. You must keep in mind that, above all, your university training is a preparation for your future career. Therefore, your first consideration should be to study a subject which will best equip you to earn a living. There is no doubt that the field of computers offers far job opportunities than history.Besides, we are now in the age of the high - technology revolution. For the foreseeable future, not only will it be necessary for everyone to be computer - literate, it will also be necessary for them to be equipped with computer skills merely to earn a living! History, I'm afraid, however fascinating it may be, offers few career prospects.Of course, you don't have to devote all your time at university to studying computers and nothing else. On the contrary, I would recommend that you keep up your reading of history in your spare time. That way, you will find that your leisure hours are enriched while you prepare yourself for a worthwhile career in computers.Yours sincerely,James英语范文(二)Family EducationThere is a growing tendency these days for more and more college students to take part-time jobs. Family education is one of most popular par-time jobs. Family education has some advantages. On one hand, Family education can let you earn some extra money and help you become more independent of your family. One the other hand, family education can offer you chances to contact with the society and the experience that you gain through family education can broaden your school life. However there are also some disadvantages in taking family education. For example, we may lose time needed for sleep, rest, study and recreation. Taking family education may interfere with our study and give us little or no useful experience. As a result, we may find it hard to adjust to what the college expects of him.As far as I am concerned, I think college students can take family education. But we have to strike a balance between school and the job. As a student, acquiring more knowledge is our first important task. Although family education can enrich our world of good, we should not spend too much time on it.Private CarsWith the development of China’s economy, private cars become more and more popular in China. Private cars have been playing a vital part in our daily activities. On one hand, private cars provide the most convenient form of transportation. With a car, we can get around freely, without spending a lot of time. On the other hand, the automobile industry provides jobs for countless workers strong support for other industries. In our world, private cars are indispensable. But with the increase of the number of private cars in China, they have given rise to a series of problems. They are responsible for a large proportion of air pollution, causing a lot of disease to man, animals and plants. Traffic accidents kill thousands of people every year and disable many more. Traffic jams on busy roads delay us painfully every day. The consequences of all these are becoming even more serious.Obviously, private cars, like anything else, have more than one face. As far as I am concerned, I think we should find ways to reduce these disadvantages so as to solve the problems of heavy traffic and air pollution. Only in this way, can our life become more exciting and comfortable. The Development of Western ChinaAs we all know, the Chinese government has already begun implementing some strategies to develop Western China, shifting the focus of economic construction from the eastern to western part of the country. Developing Western China is of great importance. It will bring Western China more chances to absorb foreign investments, technology, and even management experience, which are just what they greatly need. On the other hand, as Western China is a vast market, many eastern companies can cooperate with western companies and earn more money from it.Western China has been an undeveloped area for a long time because of its remoteness , poor education and inadequate infrastructure construction. Luckily, nowadays Western China develops very fast .The local governments have begun to accelerate the infrastructure construction. Additionally, they have already paid much more attention to the investment of education and have drawn up talent cultivation programs. In my opinion, the Development of Western China is full of hope, chances, and challenges. As a university student of the 21st century, we should actively respond to the call of our country and devote ourselves to the development of western China.Develop Western RegionsThe large scale development of West China is of profound significance. First, it will open a broad development space for central and eastern regions. Besides, it’s critical to China’s overall economic rise. What’s more, it’s the only effective way to de crease the imbalance of economic development in the east and the west so as to revitalize our nation. There are various reasons why the landlocked west has lagged behind in its economic development .The chief reason, I think, is that the opening up policies enable the east to lure more foreign capital and make a fantastic spur in its development. As a result, it leaves the west far behind in its economic growth. In addition, the west’s unique unfavorable geographic positions greatly li mit its development . Therefore, the gaps between the west and the east have been widened since China’s reform. In fact, many regions in the west still remain comparatively underdeveloped. To illustrate, most of the 30 million poor populations, who still have subsistence problems, live there. Moreover, currently the per capita GDP in West China is only about 60% of national average. And the vast West China makes less contribution to the nation’s development. If left unchanged, the underdevelopment in the west will grea tly affect overall prosperity and even social stability. However, the western region development is a long-term systematic project. It calls for tremendous efforts of several generations. To sum up, our chief goal is to build West China with economic prosperity, social progress, political stability and beautiful landscape. Finally, I believe the west will catch up with the east in its economic development in the near future.。

MPA入学考试英语精读文章(三十五)Unit 35 Text A mother and her son learn more form a moment of defeat than they ever could from a victory. Her example of never giving up gives him courage for the rest of his life. The Day Mother Cried Gerald Moore Coming home from school that dark winter‘s day so long ago, I was filled with anticipation. I had a new issue of my favorite sports magazine tucked under my arm, and the house to myself. Dad was at work, my sister was away, and Mother wouldn‘t be home from her new job for an hour. I bounded up the steps, burst into the living room and flipped on a light. I was shocked into stillness by what I saw. Mother, pulled into a tight ball with her face in her hands, sat at the far end of the couch. She was crying.I had never seen her cry. I approached cautiously and touched her shoulder. “Mother?” I said “What‘s happened?” She took a long breath and managed a weak smile. “It‘s nothing, really. Nothing important. Just than I‘m going to lose this new job. I can‘t type fast enough.” “But you‘ve only been there three days,”I said. “You‘ll catch on.” I was repeating a line she had spoken to me a hundred times when I was having trouble learning or doing something important to me. “No.” she said sadly. “I always said I could do anything I set my mind to, and I still think I can in most things. But I can‘t do this.” I felt helpless and out of place. At age 16 I still assumed Mother could do anything. Some years before, when we sold our ranch and moved to town, Mother had decided to open a day nursery. She had had no training, but that didn‘t stand in her way. She sent away for correspondence courses in child care, did the lessons and in six months formally qualified herself for the task. It wasn‘t long before she had a full enrollment and a。

MPA入学考试英语精读文章(三十三)Unit 33Text Every teacher probably asks himself time and again: What are the reasons for choosing teaching as a career? Do the rewards teaching outweigh the trying comments? Answering these questions is not a simple task. Let‘s see what the author says. Why I Teach Peter G. Beidler Why do you teach? My friend asked the question when I told him that I didn‘t want to be considered for an administrative position. He was puzzled that I did not want what was obviously a “step up” toward what all Americans are taught to want when they grow up: money and power. Certainly I don‘t teach because teaching is easy for me. Teaching is the most difficult of the various ways I have attempted to earn my living: mechanic, carpenter, writer. For me, teaching is a red-eye, sweaty-palm, sinking-stomach profession. Red-eye, because I never feel ready to teach no matter how late I stay up preparing. Sweaty-palm, because I‘m always nervous before I enter the classroom, sure that I will be found out for the fool that I am. Sinking-stomach, because I leave the classroom an hour later convinced that I was even more boring than usual. Nor do I teach because I think I know answers, or because I have knowledge I feel compelled to share. Sometimes I am amazed that my students actually take notes on what I say in class! Why, then, do I teach? I teach because I like the pace of the academic calendar. June, July, and August offer an opportunity for reflection, research and writing. I teach because teaching is a profession built on change. When the material is the same, I changeand, more important, my students change. I teach because I like the freedom to make my own mistakes, to learn my own lessons, to stimulate myself and my students. As a teacher, I‘m my。

Before he sailed round the world single-handed, Francis Chichester had already surprised his friends several times. He had tried to fly round the world but failed. That was in 1931.
After resting in Sydney for a few weeks, Chichester set off once more in spite of his friends’ attempts to dissuade him. The second half of his voyage was by far the more dangerous part, during which he sailed round the treacherous Cape Horn.

MPA入学考试英语精读文章(七)UNIT 7 TEXT The author finds out that good intentions alone are not enough when his attempt to be kind to an old man leaves them both feeling worse than before. The Sampler In a certain store where they sell puddings, a number of these delicious things are laid out in a row during the Christmas season. Here you may select the one which is most to your taste, and you are even allowed to sample them before coming to a decision. I have often wondered whether some people, who had no intention of making a purchase, would take advantage of this privilege. One day I asked this question of the shop girl, and I learned it was indeed the case. “Now there‘s one old gentleman, for instance,” she told me, “he comes here almost every week and samples each one of the puddings, though he never buys anything, and I suspect he never will. I remember him from last year before that, too. Well, let him come if he wants it, and welcome to it. And what‘s more, I hope there are a lot more stores where he can go and get his share. He looks as if he needed it all right, and I suppose they can afford it.” She was still speaking when an elderly gentleman limped up to the counter and began looking closely at the row of puddings with great interest. “Why, that‘s the very gentleman I‘ve been telling you about,” whispered the shop girl.” Just watch him now.” And then turning to him:” Would you like to sample them, sir? Here‘s spoon for you to use.” The elderly gentleman, who was poorly but neatly dressed, accepted the spoon and began eagerly to sample one after another of the puddings, only braking off occasionally to wipe his red eyes with a large torn handkerchief. “This is quite good.” “This is not bad either, but a little too heavy.” All the time it was quite。

MPA入学考试英语精读文章(十)UNIT 10 TEXT I first heard this story a few years ago from a girl I had met in New York‘s Greenwich Village. Probably the story is one of those mysterious bits of folklore that reappear every few year, to be told anew in one form or another. However, I still like to think that it really did happen, somewhere, sometime. Going Home They were going to Fort Lauderdalethree boys and three girlsand when they boarded the bus, they were carrying sandwiches and wine in paper bags, dreaming of golden beaches and sea tides as the gray, cold spring of Now York vanished behind them. As the bus passed through New Jersey, they began to notice Vingo. He sat in front of them, dressed in a plain, ill-fitting suit, never moving, his dusty face masking his age. He kept chewing the inside of his lip a lot, frozen into complete silence. Deep into the night, outside Washington, the bus pulled into Howard Johnson‘s, and everybody got off except Vingo. He sat rooted in his seat, and the young people began to wonder about him, trying to imagine his life: perhaps he was a sea captain, a runaway from his wife, an old soldier going home. When they went back to the bus, one of the girls sat beside him and introduced herself. “We‘re going to Florida,” she said brightly. “I hear it‘s really beautiful.” “It is,” he said quietly, as if remembering something he had tried to forget. “Want some wine?” she said. He smiled and took a swig from the bottle. He thanked her and retreated again into his silence. After a while, she went back to the others, and Vingo nodded in sleep. In the morning, they awoke outside another Howard Johnson‘s, and this time Vingo went in. The girl insisted that he join them. He seemed very shy, and ordered black coffee and smoked nervously as the young。

5. Study regularly. Go over your notes as soon as you can after class. Review important points mentioned in class as well as points you remain confused about. Read about these points in your textbook. If you know what the teacher will discuss the next day, skim and read that material too. This will help you understand the next class. If you review your notes and textbook regularly, the material will become more meaningful and you will remember it longer. Regular review leads to improved performance on test.
4. Make good use of your time in class. Listening to what the teacher says in class means less work later. Sit where you can see and hear well. Take notes to help you remember what the teacher says.
1. Plan your time carefully. Make a list of your weekly tasks. Then make a schedule or chart of your time. Fill in committed time such as eating, sleeping, meetings, classes, etc. Then decide on good, regular times for studying. Be sure to set aside enough time to complete your normal reading and work assignments. Of course, studying shouldn’t occupy all of the free time on the schedule. It’s

MPA入学考试英语精读文章(三十)Unit 30 Text Alvin Toffler writes about the fact that technology is advancing much faster today than ever before in history. The symbols of technology are no longer factory smokestacks or assembly lines. As we are headed for the future, the pace will quicken still further. The Fantastic Spurt in Technology A. Toffler To most people the term technology conjures up images of smoky steel mills or noisy machines. Perhaps the classic representation of technology is still the assembly line created by Henry Ford half a century ago and made into a social symbol by Charlie Chaplin in Modern Times. This symbol, however, has always been inadequate and misleading, for technology has always been more than factories and machines. The invention of the horse collar in the middle ages led to major changes in agricultural methods and was as much a technological advance as the invention of the Bessemer furnace centuries later. Moreover, technology includes techniques, or ways to do things, as well as the machines that may or may not be necessary to apply them. It includes ways to make chemical reactions occur, ways to breed fish, plant forests, light theaters, count votes or teach history. The old symbols of technology are even more misleading today, when the most advanced technological processes are carried out far from assembly lines or blast furnaces. Indeed, in electronics, in space technology, in most of the new industries, quiet and clean surroundings are characteristiceven sometimes essential. And the assembly linethe organization of large numbers of men to carry out simple repetitive functionsis outdated. It is time for our symbols of technology to changeto catch up with the quickening change in technology itself. This acceleration is frequently dramatized by a brief account of。

The MPA exam consists of multiple choice questions, short answer questions, and essay questions. Make sure you know how much time you have for each section, so you can plan accordingly.Next, practice makes perfect. Take as many practice exams as you can. This will help you get used to the format of the exam and the types of questions you'll be asked. It will also help you identify areas where you need to improve. When it comes to the essay questions, make sure you understand the prompt and answer the question that is being asked. Don't go off on a tangent or write about something that is not relevant to the question. Use examples and evidence to support your arguments and make sure your writing is clear and concise.During the exam, don't panic if you come across a question you don't know the answer to. Skip it and come back to it later if you have time. Make sure you read all the questions carefully and don't rush through the exam. Finally, take care of yourself leading up to the exam. Get enough sleep, eat well, and exercise. Being well-rested and healthy will help you stay focused and alert during the exam.I hope these tips are helpful and wish you the best of luck on your MPA exam!。

MBA英语阅读精讲汇粹(31)Passage Thirty One (The Affect of Electricity on Cancer)Can electricity cause cancer? In a society that literally runs on electric power, the very idea seems preposterous. But for more than a decade, a growing band of scientists and journalists has pointed to studies that seem to link exposure to electromagnetic fields with increased risk of leukemia and other malignancies. The implications are unsettling, to say the least, since everyone comes into contact with such fields, which are generated by everything electrical, from power lines and antennas to personal computers and micro-wave ovens. Because evidence on the subject is inconclusive and often contradictory, it has been hard to decide whether concern about the health effects of electricity is legitimate—or the worst kind of paranoia. Now the alarmists have gained some qualified support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. In the executive summary of a new scientific review, released in draft form late last week, the EPA has put forward what amounts to the most serious government warning to date. The agency tentatively concludes that scientific evidence “suggests a casual link” between extremely low-frequency electromagnetic fields—those having very longwave-lengths—and leukemia, lymphoma and brain cancer, While the report falls short of classifying ELF fields as probable carcinogens, it does identify the common 60-hertz magnetic field as “a possible, but not proven, cause of cancer in humans.”The report is no reason to panic—or even to lost sleep. If there is a cancer risk, it is a small one. The evidence is still so controversial that the draft stirred a great deal of debate within the Bush Administration, and the EPA released it over strong objections from the Pentagon and the Whit House. But now no one can deny that the issue must be taken seriously and that much more research is needed. At the heart of the debate is a simple and well-understood physical phenomenon: When an electric current passes through a wire, tit generates an electromagnetic fieldthat exerts forces on surrounding objects, For many years, scientists dismissed any suggestion that such forces might be harmful, primarily because they are so extraordinarily weak. The ELF magnetic field generated by a video terminal measures only a few milligauss, or about one-hundredth the strength of the earth’s own magnetic field, The electric fields surrounding a power line can be as high as 10 kilovolts per meter, but the corresponding field induced in human cells will be only about 1 millivolt per meter. This is far less than the electric fields that the cells themselves generate. How could such minuscule forces pose a health danger? The consensus used to be that they could not, and for decades scientists concentrated on more powerful kinds of radiation, like X-rays, that pack sufficient wallop to knock electrons out of the molecules that make up the human body. Such “ionizing” radiations have been clearly linked to increased cancer risks and there are regulations to control emissions. But epidemiological studies, which find statistical associations between sets of data, do not prove cause and effect. Though there is a body of laboratory work showing that exposure to ELF fields can have biological effects on animal tissues, a mechanism by which those effects could lead to cancerous growths has never been found. The Pentagon is for from persuaded. In a blistering 33-page critique of the EPA report, Air Force scientists charge its authors with having “biased the entire document” toward proving a link. “Our reviewers are convinced that there is no suggestion that (electromagnetic fields) present in the environment induce or promote cancer,” the Air Force concludes. “It is astonishing that the EPA would lend its impr imatur on this report.” Then Pentagon’s concern is understandable. There is hardly a unit of the modern military that does not depend on the heavy use of some kind of electronic equipment, from huge ground-based radar towers to the defense systems built into every warship and plane.1. The main idea of this passage is[A]. studies on the cause of cancer[B]. controversial view-points in the cause of cancer[C]. the relationship between electricity and cancer.[D]. different ideas about the effect of electricity on caner.2. The view-point of the EPA is[A]. there is casual link between electricity and cancer.[B]. electricity really affects cancer.[C]. controversial.[D].low frequency electromagnetic field is a possible cause of cancer3. Why did the Pentagon and Whit House object to the release of the report? Because[A]. it may stir a great deal of debate among the Bush Administration.[B]. every unit of the modern military has depended on the heavy use of some kind of electronic equipment.[C]. the Pentagon’s concern was understandable.[D]. they had different arguments.4. It can be inferred from physical phenomenon[A]. the force of the electromagnetic field is too weak to be harmful.[B]. the force of the electromagnetic field is weaker than the electric field that the cells generate.[C]. electromagnetic field may affect health.[D]. only more powerful radiation can knock electron out of human body.5. What do you think ordinary citizens may do after reading the different arguments?[A].They are indifferent. [B]. They are worried very much.[C]. The may exercise prudent avoidance. [C]. They are shocked.V ocabulary1. preposterous

I still remember my experience of studying for myMaster of Public Administration (MPA) degree vividly. Itwas a challenging yet rewarding journey that taught me alot about leadership, public policy, and management. One of the most memorable courses I took was on public budgeting and finance. I had always been interested in how governments allocate resources and make financial decisions, so this course was right up my alley. The professor was a seasoned government official who brought real-world examples and case studies into the classroom. We learned about different budgeting techniques, revenue sources, and the impact of fiscal policies on public services. It was fascinating to see how theory translated into practice, and I gained a deeper understanding of the complexities ofpublic finance.Another course that left a lasting impression on me was on organizational behavior. We delved into topics such as leadership styles, team dynamics, and organizational culture. I remember one particular group project where we had to analyze a case study on a dysfunctional organization and come up with recommendations for improvement. It was a challenging task, but working with my classmates to brainstorm ideas and collaborate on solutions was a valuable learning experience. It taught me the importance of effective communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills in a professional setting.Overall, my MPA experience was a transformative one. It not only equipped me with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in the public sector but also broadened my perspective on governance and public service. I am grateful for the opportunities I had to learn from experienced professors and engage with passionate classmates who shared my passion for making a positive impact in society.中文回答:我依然清晰地记得我攻读公共管理硕士(MPA)学位的经历。

MPA入学考试英语精读文章(六)UNIT 6 TEXT San set out to improve efficiency at the shirt factory but, as we find out later in this unit, his plans turned out not quite as he had expected. Sam Adams, Industrial Engineer If you ask my mother how I happened to become an industrial engineer, she‘ll tell you that I have always been one. She means that I have always wanted everything to be well organized and neat. When I was still in elementary school, I liked to keep my socks in the upper left-hand drawer of my bureau, my underwear in the upper right drawer, shirts in the middle drawer, and pants, neatly folded, in the bottom drawer. In fact, I was the efficiency expert for the whole family. I used to organize my father‘s tools, my mother‘s kitchen utensils, my sister‘s boyfriends. I needed to be efficient. I wanted to be well organized. For me, there was a place for everything and everything was always in its place. These qualities gave me a good foundation for a career in industrial engineering. Unfortunately, I was also a bit bossy and I wasn‘t a very good listener. You‘ll see what I mean when I tell you about the first project I ever did after I finished my bachelor‘s degree at the university. After graduation I returned home to my small town in Indiana. I didn‘t have a job yet. Mr. Hobbs, a friend of my father‘s, owned a small shirt factory in town. Within the past five years it had grown from twenty to eighty workers. Mr. Hobbs was worried that his plant was getting too big and inefficient, so he asked me to come in on a short-term basis as a consultant. I went to the plant and spent about a week looking around and making notes. I was really amazed at what I saw. Most curious of all, there was no quality control whatsoever. No one inspected the final product of the factory. As a result。

MPA入学考试英语精读文章(十一)UNTH 11 TEXT It is humorous essay. But after reading it you will surely find that the author is most serious in writing it. Ts There Life on Earth? There was great excitement on the planet of Venus this week. For the first time Venusian scientists managed to land a satellite on the plant Earth, and is has been sending back signals as well as photographs ever since. The satellite was directed into an area know as Manhattan (named after the great Venusian astronomer Prof. Manhattan, who first discovered it with his telescope 20,000 light years ago). Because of excellent weather conditions and extremely strong signals, Venusian scientists were able to get valuable information as to the feasibility of a manned flying saucer landing on Earth. A press conference was held at the Venus Institute of Technology. “We have come to the conclusion, based on last week‘s satellite landing,” Prof. Zog said, “that there is no life on Earth.” “How do you know this?” the science reporter of the Venus Evening Star asked. “For one thing, Earth‘s surface in the area of Manhattan is composed of solid concrete and nothing can grow there. For another, the atmosphere is filled with carbon monoxide and other deadly gases and nobody could possibly breather this air and survive.” “What does this mean as far as our flying sauce program is concerned?” “We shall have to take our own oxygen with us, which means a much heavier flying saucer than we originally planned.” “Are there any other hazards that you discovered in your studier?” “Take a look at this photo. You see this dark black cloud hovering over the surface of Earth? We call this the Consolidated Edison Belt. We don‘t know what it is made of, but it could give us a lot of trouble and we shall have to make。
MPA考试英语作文参考范文

MPA考试英语作文参考范文MPA考试英语作文参考范文Family EducationThere is a growing tendency these days for more and more college students to take part-time jobs. Although family education can enrich our world of good, we should not spend too much time on it. Private CarsWith the development of China’s economy, private cars become more and more popular in China. Private cars have been playing a vital part in ourdaily activities. On one hand, private cars provide the most convenient form of transportation. With a car, we can get around freely, without spending alot of time. As a university student of the 21st century, we shouldactively respond to the call of our country and devote ourselves to the development of western China.Develop Western RegionsThe large scale development of West China is of profound significance. First, it will open a broad development space for central and eastern regions. Besides, it’s critical to China’s overall economic rise. What’s more, it’s the only effective way to decrease the imbalance of economic development in the east and the west so as to revitalize our nation. There are various reasons why the landlocked west has lagged behind in its economic development .The chief reason, I think, is that the opening up policies enable the east to lure more foreign capital and make a fantastic spur in its development. As a result, it leaves the west far behind in its economic growth. In addition, the west’s unique unfavorable geographicpositions greatly limit its development . If left unchanged, the underde velopment in the westwill greatly affect overall prosperity and even social stability. However, the western region development is a long-term systematic project. It calls for tremendous efforts of several generations. To sum up, our chief goal is to build West China with economic prosperity, social progress, political stability and beautiful landscape. Finally, I believe the west will catch up with the east in its economic development in the near future.

Unit 21 Text A young man finds that strolling along the streets without an obvious purpose can lead to trouble with the law. One misunderstanding leads to another until eventually he must appear in court for trial…… A Brush with the Law I have only once been in trouble with the law. The whole process of being arrested and taken to court was a rather unpleasant experience at the time, but it makes a good story now. What makes it rather disturbing was the arbitrary circumstances both of my arrest and my subsequent fate in court. In happened in February about twelve years ago. I had left school a couple of months before that and was not due to go to university until the following October. I was still living at home at the time. One morning I was in Richmond, a suburb of London near where I lived. I was looking for a temporary job so that I could save up some money to go travelling. As it was a fine day and I was in no hurry, I was taking my time, looking in shop windows, strolling in the park, and sometimes just stopping and looking around me. It must have been this obvious aimlessness that led to my downfall. It was about half past eleven when it happened. I was just walking out of the local library, having unsuccessfully sought employment there, when I saw a man walking across the road with the obvious intention of talking to me. I thought he was going to ask me the time. Instead, he said he was a police officer and he was arresting me. At first I thought it was some kind of joke. But then another policeman appeared, this time in uniform, and I was left in no doubt. ‘But what for?‘ I asked. “Wandering with intent to commit an arrestable offence,‘ he said. ‘What offence?‘ I asked. ‘Theft,‘he said. ‘Theft of what?‘I asked. ‘Milk bottles,‘he said, and。
