SAD usually starts in autumn or winter and ends in spring or early summer. As the weather gets colder and the days get shorter, you feel more tired, sleepy and even hopeless at times. However, we still don’t know the exact cause (原因) of SAD. Some scientists think that hormone (激素) changes can cause this kind of depression, Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) News reported. During winter, it stays dark outside for much of the day. This causes the brain to make more melatonin (褪黑素).This hormone makes you feel sleep and less excited.
Getting more sunlight is the best way to deal with SAD. Doctors say people should spend at least some time outside every day during the winter. “Light therapy (疗法)”, or using special lamps at home to simulate (模仿) natural light, can also help. What happens when you and your friend argue (吵)? What should you do if you want to deal with (处理) the arguments with your friends? Here is some useful advice.
Stay calm. When we’re angry, we might say things that aren’t kind. (A) It’s always better to keep cool and think carefully before we speak. Count to ten in your head, and if you can’t relax, walk away. Sometimes you have to do that.
Listen first. Give the other person a chance to speak. You have to listen carefully and pay attention to your friend’s face and body language. Try to imagine how your friend is probably feeling at that moment.
Be clear and kind. You have to be honest about your thoughts and feelings. Explain the problem clearly and say what you need from your friend. Choose your words carefully and try to be nice to your friend. You don’t want to start another argument!
Admit (承认) your mistakes. (B) Remember that even the best people make mistakes and nobody is perfect. It’s OK to make mistakes, but we have to admit them and then say we’re sorry.
Live and learn. Arguments are a normal part of life, and we don’t have to worry about every disagreement. But we should try to learn from them. After all, we don’t want to repeat the same mistakes again! Think about what happened, and remember that lesson for the future.
