Post1990 graduates are likely to become a generation without property ow nership due to more emphasis on personal value,the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences published in a report on Wednesday.
Around 30 percent of the post90s graduates surveyed live in a property of below 20 square meters one year after graduation.Half of the surveyed said they are unwilling to degrade their living conditions by incurring housing debts.
The report,Society Blue Paper:China Social Situation Analysis and Prediction,surveyed 4,110 students born after 1990 in 12 universities across the country.Of the interviewed,2,730 of them are currently still students at school and 1,380 are graduates.
The survey reveals that in a year after graduation,more than 70 percent of graduates rent houses or live in dormitories provided by their employers.About 20 percent live at home of their parents or relatives and less than 5 percent live in the houses of their own.
“The report shows most post90s graduates have to purchase a house on their own,” said Tian Feng,deputy director of the research lab for teenagers and social problems affiliated(隶属的) to CASS.It is still a rigid(一成不变的) demand for the post90s to have their own houses.Only one third of respondents agree to lower their current living conditions to save money to purchase a house,and about 55 percent choose not to buy a house if the investment means a heavy debt burden.
More than half of the graduates believe that property investment is the best way to maintain the value of money for the time being.However,if the graduates had a sum of money for a down payment on a home,most said they would rather use the money on entrepreneurship(创业) or other business endeavors which they say provide a sense of achievement.
Tian said that on the one hand,the post1990 generations recognize traditional Chinese values which regard property as a necessity to build a family but on the other hand,they prefer a highquality and freestyle life instead of living under the economic restrictions imposed by heavy house loans.

1.Which of the following is NOT about post1990 graduates' property ownership?
A.They put more stress on personal value.
B.They are unwilling to lower their current living conditions.
C.They want to invest on other things providing a sense of achievement.
D.They needn't purchase a house on their own.

根据第一段中的“due to more emphasis on personal value”可知,A项表述正确;根据第二段中的“Half of the surveyed said they are unwilling to degrade their living conditions”可知,B项表述正确;根据倒数第二段中的“most said they would rather use the money on entrepreneurship(创业) or other business endeavors which they say provide a sense of achievement”可知,C项表述正确;根据第五段第一句中“The report shows most post90s graduates have to purchase a house on their own”可知,D项表述错误。

2.What does the underlined word “incurring” probably mean?
A.Bearing. B.Leaving.
C.Clearing. D.Removing.
答案:A

根据第二段中的“they are unwilling to degrade their living conditions by incurring housing debts”可知,他们不愿意承担住房债务而降低现有的生活条件,故可推断incurring的词义与bearing相近。

3.According to the passage,at most how many graduates interviewed have their own houses?
A.206. B.137.
C.69. D.55.

根据第三段中的“Of the interviewed...1,380 are graduates.”和第四段中的“less than 5 percent live in the houses of their own”可知,1 380×5%=69,即最多有69个被采访的毕业生有自己的房子。

4.W hat can we infer from the last paragraph about the post1990 generation?
A.They treat property as a preference to build a house.
B.They prefer a highquality and freestyle life.
C.They have mixed feelings about property ownership.
D.They lack a sense of responsibility.

Why do people become so nice during natural disasters?
We might remember the hurricanes in 2017. Hurricane Harvey struck Houston in August. Hurricane Irma was next, arriving on Florida's doorstep and causing so much damage that the Walt Disney World Resort shut down for the first time in its history.
Natural disasters are, of course, disastrous. But they tend to come with human kindness. Aid organizations rush to help rebuild homes, hotels take in the homeless, and, on a personal level, strangers just seem more willing to give_each_other_a_hand. It's as though everyone becomes family.
To find out why people suddenly become so kind in the face of danger, I talked to Dan Ariely, an Israeli behavioral economist at Duke University who studies human decisionmaking. According to Ariely, a shift(转变) in perspective has a lot to do with this change.
“When things are really bad, I think smal l things become less important,” Ariely explained.“So all of a sudden,we focus_on the things that are important.”
I knew what he meant. Last year, I was studying in a program in West Virginia. At the very end of the program,we were hit by a series of storms and floods. For three days, the power was out and the system of pipes stopped working.A dry river bed near my house turned into a very powerful river. A neighbor said he saw a house on fire floating down the river.
All of a sudden, we forgot about our studies, our jobs and even whatever tiny dramas had broken out between us.All that mattered was making sure we could find enough food_and_water every day, particularly before the sun went down and we were left in the dark.
Having a common enemy—the_disaster—is another factor that brings people together. Ariely remembers a study where researchers found that, if people are negotiating with each other, and the moderator(仲裁人)is really unpleasant, then something surprising happens. They actually come to the agreement sooner. Apparently, the moderator becomes a common enemy, enabling the people negotiating to work together.
注意:
1.所续写短文的词数应为150左右;
2.至少使用5个短文中标有下划线的关键词语;
3.续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好;

Paragraph 1:
In my own experience, people really did become kind in the face of the storm. We shared food_and_water,_warned each other of falling rocks and encouraged one another not to be afraid. I knew it would be like that. I'd been in a couple of hurricanes,_a tornado or two and a microburst before. My strongest memories from those times weren't about the storms or the destruction. They were about the people around me—friends, family, even total strangers,_who suddenly dropped whatever distance they had before and acted like teammates.
Paragraph 2:
“It's about a common mission,” Ariely told me. “The mission is that we focus our attention on the_disaster and give_each_other_a_hand to survive.In regular life, to live a life we want or get whatever we need, we compete in all kinds of ways. However, when something big happens, we change our competitive relationships, moving from competition to cooperation, because we need to fight together.”。
