第三部分:阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A,B,C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

(A)
The word health can be used in a number of ways. In the past, health was only the absence of disease or illness. Today, though, health has a broader meaning. Health is the state of your well-being that includes how you feel physically, mentally, and socially. Wellness is another term that describes this broader view of health. You can understand the need for a broader definition(定义)if you think about how health in your life is different from hea lth in your grandparents’ lives.
In 1900, the main causes of death were diseases that were spread by bacteria(细菌)and viruses(病毒). If you had lived then, the danger of your dying from pneumonia(肺炎)would have been three times greater than the danger of your dying from cancer.
The diseases that were most common in 1900 affected people of all ages. It is not surprising, then that around 1900, the emphasis(重点)of health was on freedom from illness. Today many of the diseases that were common in 1900 can be prevented or cured by improved medicines and methods of sanitation(卫生). Most diseases now are likely to occur late in life. You, as a teenager, will probably mot have to think about the same threats to your health as our grandparents did.
These improvements in health conditions mean that not only can you now enjoy a better life, but you also have a greater chance of having a longer life. Controlling diseases has increased the life
expectancy in the Unites States. Generally, people born more recently have higher life expectancies. Since 1900, the life expectancy in the United States has increased by more than 27 years. It has increased from 47 years for those born in 1900 to 74 years in 1981.
56. According to Paragraph 1, health and wellness _________.
A. can be used interchangeably on all occasions
B. are different in that the latter has a broader sense
C. had the same meaning in the past
D. both refer to the state of your well-being
57. Which of the following statements is true?
A. Diseases caused by bacteria and viruses were incurable in 1900.
B. Bacteria and viruses are the main causes of death today.
C. Medicines for curing pneumonia were not available in 1900.
D. Pneumonia caused as many deaths in 1900 as cancer does today.
58. “Life expectancy” in the last paragraph most probably means _________.
A. the kind of life that a person may expect to live
B. the model of life that a group of people have lived
C. the length of time that a person or an animal has lived
D. the length of time that people may expect to live
59. On an average, people in America who were born in 1900 _________.
A. had a life-span of 74 years
B. lived a shorter but better life than those born later
C. lived to 47 years of age
D. lived 27 years longer than those born in 1981
60. The passage is written for _________.
A. teenagers
B. the diseased
C. adults
D. aged people
(B)
What do Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson and Philcollins all have in common? They were all bullied (欺负)at school.
If you’re being bullied, it doesn’t mean there is something wrong with you. You have a right to feel safe. If you are being bullied at school, it is the school’s responsibility to stop it. If you are being attacked outside of school, the police have the responsibility to help you.
The bully is the one with the problem.
A lot of bullies are already being bullied themselves. They feel powerless and so they look for ways to feel tough at school or in the street.
Often, the bully is envious of other kids, so he picks on those who are cleverer, or those kids who have cool dress or more money. Usually bullies don’t like themselves, so they take out their frustrations(沮丧)on someone else, e.g. you.
What can you do?
* Look calm and confident even when you are not! You can practice this in the bathroom mirror.
* If possible, ignore the bully. Bullies want a reaction(反应)—if you don’t seem upset, or angry, they’ll often leave you alone.
* Walk away. Just because a bully starts an argument doesn’t mean you have to hang around and finish it.
* Avoid being alone. Bullies are cowards(懦夫)who only pick a fight when they know they can win. If you are with friends, they are more likely to leave you alone.
Get help!
Tell an adult you can trust. This doesn’t mean you are weak. In life you often need to get help from other people. When you have a broken leg, you get help from a doctor—it doesn’t mean you are weak. If you are being bullied you also get help. Bullies want you to keep quiet. When you speak up, you refuse to play the bully’s game. Telling others about the problem is a brave move.
61. In the first paragraph, the author intends to _________.
A. name several students who were bullied
B. tell us being bullied is a common problem at school
C. what the three students have in common
D. warn people of the three bullies
62. Bullies are usually those who _________.
A. are stupid
B. are poor
C. are full of envy
D. have more power
63. To avoid bullies, you are advised to _________.
A. be calm and confident
B. react bravely and show your confidence
C. hang around and argue with them
D. stay with friends always
64. The underlined word “ignore” probably means _________.
A. fight
B. stop
C. pay no attention to
D. talk with
65. With the underlined sentence in the last paragraph, the author gives us an example of ____.
A. how to get help from doctors
B. people being weak sometimes
C. what people do in trouble
D. getting help when necessary
(C)
People say teenagers are no good. They make too much noise in shops; they drive wildly up and down the streets. And at times, some of these things are true. But there are also hard moments in the life of a teenager.
A teenager is neither a lovely child, nor a respectable grown up person. The members of her family consider a teenager a source of trouble. She feels that she has grown up. But she is told that she is just a child and she knows nothing. She sees her elders doing what they like. When she wants to do what she likes, the elders tell her that she should do only what she is told to do. To be a teenager means to be everybody’s servant and nobody’s master. Elders in the family and in the neighbourhood order a teenager to run errands from them. If he refuses to carry out the orders of his elders, he is scolded. He may even be punished. He is criticized for all that he says and does. If he behaves like a child, he is told that he is grown up and that he should not be childish. If he behaves like a grown up man, he is told that he is disrespectful.
A teenager becomes a lonely creature in the family. Children enjoy all the love of the elders in the family. The teenager gets no love and no respect. So she often runs away from home and finds some joy in the company of the girls of her age.
The trouble with teenagers is that they haven’t l earnt to be controlled. There are too many rules and regulations for us to obey. It hasn’t yet occurred to us to run a zigzag pattern. Although we teenagers have miserable time with our family members and elders, we have a very good time with our friends and in schools and colleges. So we teenagers spend most of our good time and have fun with our friends and classmates rather than with parents.
66. The main idea of this passage is _________.
A. the differences between a teenager and a grown-up
B. the usual opinions of teenagers
C. the difficult situation a teenager face
D. how to deal with teenagers
67. The key factor of the troubles brought to teenagers is that _________.
A. teenagers are always troublesome
B. teenagers don’t un derstand their parents completely

D. teenagers refuse to listen to grown-ups
68. Who understand teenagers best according to the passage?
A. Their teachers.
B. Their friends.
C. Their neighbours.
D. Their parents.
69. The underlined sentence in the last paragraph probably has the same meaning as _________.
A. they don’t get along well with their elders as they haven’t learned to control others.
B. they lead a hard life because they are not familiar to all kinds of rules.
C. their troubles lie in their control of others
D. they have troubles with elders because they haven’t formed the habit of obeying
70. What’s the author’s attitude towards teenagers?
A. He criticizes them.
B. He understands them.
C. He misunderstands them.
D. He supports them.
(D)
It’s a Saturday night —what is a group of friends to do? They could go out to a bar or pub, they could enjoy a good meal or they could go to a club. That’s what may have happened a few years ago. However, new research has shown that three times as many Britons would rather stay in and cook a meal for friends than have a wild night out. These people are being described as the Stay Home and Entertain Friends (SHEF) brigade(队,组).
Mark is an IT manager from Manchester and could be described as a SHEF. “I like to socialize with my friends, but going ou t every weekend can be really expensive. We’ve found another choice; head to the local pub for one or two drinks, then go back to one of our homes for food, drink and some music. Much less trouble and more fun than going into the city center and struggling to get a taxi at 2 a.m!”
The survey also found that twice as many men as women associated romance with home-cooked, candlelit dinners with their partners, claming that this was a perfect way for a great Saturday night.
According to another study by insurance company More Than, people are also turning to their homes as a source of entertainment and a shelter from the stress of modern living. The new “staying in” culture is driving increased spending on home improvement and entertainments systems within the home. Many people in the UK have set up home cinemas with plasma screen(等离子屏幕)televisions, satellite televisions and DVD players.
Maybe, soon the popularity of this trend of staying in will decline and going out will become the new staying in!
71. What would be the best title for the text?
A. Trends in Britain Are Always Changing.
B. Staying in Is the New Going Out.
C. Staying in or Going Out?
D. Stay in and Enjoy the Romance.
72. A SHEF is a person who _________.
A. is very generous to a friend
B. tries to save money by having meals at home
C. entertains a friend at home
D. invites a friend out for entertainment
73. It can be learned from the text that men prefer to stay at home because _________.
A. they feel more pressure from modern life
B. they like the romantic atmosphere with their partners
C. they don’t like to socialize with their friends at weekends
D. their partners don’t like them to go out
74. The author thinks that _________.
A. the popularity of this trend of staying in will be increased as time goes on
B. people needn’t go out with everything at home
C. people will have different trends at different times
D. the trend of staying in will stay fixed for a long time
75. The underlined phrase “staying in” in the last sentence of the passage probably means _________.
A. experience
B. force
C. SHEF
D. trend
第二卷(共45分)
第四部分:写作(共两节,满分45分)
第一节阅读表达(共5小题;每小题3分,满分15分)
阅读下面的短文,根据文章后所给的题目进行简答。

Last summer I went through a training program and became a literacy volunteer(扫盲志愿者). The training I received, though excellent, did not tell me how it was to work with a real student, however. When I began to discove r what other people’s lives were like because they could not read, I realized the true importance of reading.
My first student Marie was a 44-year-old single mother of three children. In the first lesson, I found out that she walked two miles to the nearest supermarket twice a week because she _________. When I told her I would get her a bus schedule(时刻表), she told me it would not help because she could not read it. She said she also had difficulty once she got to the supermarket because she couldn’t al ways remember what she needed. Since she did not know words, she could not write out a shopping list. Also,
she could only recognize items by sight, so if the product had a different label(标示), she would not recognize it as the product she wanted.
As w e worked together, learning how to read built Marie’s self-confidence(自信心), which encouraged her to continue in her studies. She began to make rapid progress and was even able to take the bus to the supermarket. After this successful trip, she reported how self-confident she felt. At the end of the program, she began helping her youngest son, Tony, a shy first grader, with his reading. She sat with him before he went to sleep and together they would read bedtime stories. When his eyes became wide with excitement as she read, pride was written all over her face, and she began to see how her own hard work in learning to read paid off. As she described this experience, I was proud of myself as well. I found that helping Marie to build her self-confidence was more rewarding than anything I had ever done before.
As a literacy volunteer, I learned a great deal about teaching and helping others. In fact, I may have learned more from the experience than Marie did.

书面表达:
Lushan is a famous place of interest, which attracts great numbers of tourists every day. However, years ago, people paid little attention to environmental protection. Quite a few tourists threw about all kinds of waste here and there, such as plastic bags and tins, waste paper and so on. Some tourists dug up trees and picked flowers. Besides, many wild animals, including lovely birds, were hunted or killed. What’s worse, some tourists made fire in the forest to cook, making the forest in great danger. All these did great harm to the environment and hugely destroyed the beauty of Lushan.
Fortunately, changes have taken place here. When leaving, tourists are seen taking rubbish away with them. They no longer hunt animals, and plants are also protected. All the tourists carry their lunch instead of starting forest fire to cook. The good deeds they do make Lushan more beautiful than ever.。
