Qinghai - The Land of Blue Lakes and Snowy Peaks!
Hi friends! My name is Lucy and I'm 10 years old. This summer, my family took an amazing trip to Qinghai province in western China. Let me tell you all about the incredible sights we saw and adventures we had!
Qinghai is known as the "Source of Rivers" because some of Asia's biggest rivers like the Yellow River, Yangtze, and Mekong all start from the glaciers and lakes there. With an average elevation of over 3,000 meters, the province has the biggest and highest plateau in China called the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It's no wonder the scenery is just breathtaking!
Our first stop was Qinghai Lake, the largest salt water lake in China. The water looks bluer than the sky itself! We took a cruise across the sparklingwaves and I saw beautiful bird species like black-necked cranes, bar-headed geese, and brown-headed gulls. On the shore, we found odd rock formations sculpted by
wind and water over millions of years. They looked like frozen giants or dinosaurs!
Next up was Zhali Mugeer, a region with colorful hills and grasslands that seem painted by nature's brush. We went on a fun yak riding tour, galloping across the vibrant landscape. The nomadic Mongol and Tibetan herders there still live in traditional yurts and herd yaks, sheep and horses just like their ancestors did centuries ago. We were invited into one family's yurt for buttery yak milk tea and delicious yogurt. Their yurt was so cozy with bright rugs and a warm firepit in the center.
One of the most magical places we went was Chaka Salt Lake. This stunning lake is divided into four colors - red, yellow, green and blue! We walked along the shores, feeling the crunchy salt deposits under our shoes. At certain angles, it looked like we were walking on rainbows or cotton candy! No wonder it's called the "Mirror of the Sky." The red areas are caused by a type of microorganism and the other hues come from different types of algae and minerals in the water. It was surreal!
For adventure-seekers, Qinghai has lots of incredible hiking opportunities. We trekked through the Amnye Machen range, one of the highest peaks in the province at over 6,000 meters tall! Even though it was summer, parts of the mountain were still
covered in bright white glaciers. We saw troops of wild donkeys, yaks, and Sichuan antelope gracefully leaping between rocks. The views from the top made me feel like I was standing on top of the world!
No trip to Qinghai is complete without seeing Kumbum Monastery. This huge Buddhist temple complex was founded over 600 years ago and is one of the most important Yuan Dynasty sites. With its white stone walls, colorful prayer flags, and dozens of temples, stupas and statues, it almost looks like a mini-town! We watched monks in their maroon robes doing rituals and studied the detailed murals and carvings that tell ancient Buddhist stories. The biggest statue is the fascinating 25-meter Tsongkha-pa Buddha, with intricate designs all over its body.
Those are just some of the incredible sights we took in on our Qinghai adventure! From the brilliant blue lakes to the multi-colored hills to the snowy mountain peaks, Qinghai feels like a world of natural wonders and mysteries. Qinghai - China's Hidden Gem!
Hi there! My name is Lily and I'm 10 years old. Last summer, my family and I went on an incredible trip to Qinghai Province in western China. It was the best vacation ever and I can't wait to tell you all about it!
Qinghai is a magical place full of stunning natural beauty. Towering snow-capped mountains, vast grasslands, shimmering lakes, and friendly people made it a wonderland for kids like me. We drove for hours through breathtaking landscapes, stopping to take millions of photos along the way.
One of the coolest things we saw were the herds of yaks grazing on the grasslands. These big, shaggy animals look like a cross between a cow and a woolly mammoth! They move pretty
slowly, but I learned that yaks are incredibly strong and can carry really heavy loads over long distances. The nomadic people of Qinghai depend on yaks for transportation, milk, meat, and even their fur to make tents.
Speaking of nomads, we were lucky enough to visit a traditional Tibetan family who live in colorful yurt tents. They welcomed us with warm smiles and bowls of yak butter tea. It had a rich, salty taste that took some getting used to! The family showed us how they milk the yaks, shear their fur, and create beautiful handicrafts. I even got to try my hand at spinning yak wool into thread. It was awesome experiencing their
time-honored way of life.
Another highlight was Qinghai Lake, which is the largest lake in China. The brilliant blue waters seemed to stretch on forever, surrounded by rugged mountains. We took a boat tour and I spotted adorable waterfowl like bar-headed geese and
black-necked cranes splashing in the shallows. Our guide taught us that Qinghai Lake is located over 3,000 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest lakes in the world!
One day, we drove up into the mountains to see the Mengda Nature Reserve. I have never seen so many vibrant wildflowers! Crimson red rhododendrons, sunny yellow rhododendrons, and
pink rhododendrons of every shade covered the slopes in a lush rainbow carpet. It felt like we were hiking through a fairy tale kingdom. We also spotted tons of cute marmots popping in and out of their burrows.
The grand finale of our trip was visiting Qinghai's capital city of Xining. It was like being transported back in time! We wandered through the Old City quarter with its winding alleyways, historic architecture, and bustling markets selling exotic snacks and handicrafts. I loved browsing the endless stalls of handmade jewelry, colorful textiles, and carved yak bone artifacts. For lunch, we feasted on delicious Hui noodles, steamed dumplings, and sweet rice cakes. Yum!
I have so many other amazing memories from Qinghai –horseback riding in the vast grasslands, splashing in the crystal-clear rivers, and watching traditional Tibetan dance performances. It felt like a real-life journey to the ancient Silk Road trading routes.

A Magical Journey to Qinghai - China's Hidden Gem!
Hi friends! My name is Lily and I recently went on the most amazing trip to Qinghai Province in western China with my family. Let me tell you all about this incredible place!
Qinghai is a vast region on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, and it's often called the "Roof of the World" because the land is so high up. The air feels so fresh and clean there. As we drove through the countryside, I was in awe of the breathtaking mountain landscapes all around me - towering snowy peaks, deep valleys, and endless grasslands that rolled on as far as the eye could see. It felt like something out of a fairy tale!
Our first stop was the provincial capital Xining. Even though it's a modern city, it has an old-world charm with colorful Tibetan neighborhoods, lively markets, and ancient Buddhist temples and monasteries. We visited the famous Ta'er Monastery which dates back over 600 years! The murals and statues inside were so intricately carved and painted. It felt like stepping back in time.
One day, we went on a yak cart ride through a Tibetan village and I got to learn all about their unique culture and way of life. The friendly locals served us butter tea and tasty yak meat dishes. Yum! They even let me pet a baby yak which was unbelievably cute and fuzzy.
But the real highlight of our Qinghai trip was visiting Qinghai Lake - the largest salt water lake in China. When we first laid eyes on it, I was amazed by its sheer size and brilliant blue color. The water was so clear and pristine, reflecting the white clouds above. We took a boat cruise out onto the lake and the scenery was just magical, surrounded by the snow-capped Datong Mountains on all sides.
Along the lakeshore, we could see tons of wildlife - birds, antelope, and even a few endangered Przewalski's horses which only live in this region. There were also flocks of colorful Tibetan prayer flags swaying in the breeze. Our guide told us that the flags are inscribed with Buddhist mantras and spread goodwill and peace when the wind blows them. I thought that was such a wonderful tradition!
We spent a couple nights camping right on the shores of Qinghai Lake. Every evening after the sun went down, the starry night sky lit up in a dazzling display. I had never seen so many
bright, twinkling stars in my life! We roasted marshmallows by the campfire as our guide pointed out the different constellations - the Big Dipper, Orion, Cassiopeia and more. Sleeping out under those brilliant stars was an experience I'll never forget.
No trip to Qinghai would be complete without seeing some wildlife up close and personal. We went to visit these adorable dog-like creatures called Qinghai prairie dogs at a nature reserve.
I giggled watching them pop in and out of their burrows and chatter to each other with their cute high-pitched barks. They were so much fun to observe! We also spotted herds of wild donkeys and Tibetan antelope roaming freely across the vast grasslands.
Towards the end of our trip, we visited Qinghai's famous Rainbow Mountains which are striped with stunning colors like red, yellow, green and blue. These vibrant rainbow hues are caused by mineral deposits in the sandstone over millions of years. Our guide explained that it's one of the most unique geological wonders on the planet! As we hiked along the base of these incredible multicolored mountains, I felt like I had entered another world entirely.
Qinghai was unlike anywhere I had been before. The natural scenery was out of this world, the Tibetan culture and history were fascinating to experience, and the people were all so warm and welcoming. This province in western China is a hidden gem that more people need to discover! Even though I'm a kid, this trip opened up my eyes to the incredible diversity and beauty that exists in our world. I'll forever cherish the memories I made in magical Qinghai!

A Magical Adventure in Qinghai Province!
Hi everyone! My name is Emma and I just got back from the most incredible trip to Qinghai Province in western China. Let me tell you all about my amazing adventure there!
Qinghai is one of the highest places in the whole world. Many of the mountains there are covered in snow and ice all year round. It's freezing cold a lot of the time, but also breathtakingly beautiful. There are huge lakes that look like mirrors reflecting the bright blue sky. Everywhere you look there are jaw-dropping views.
Our journey started in Xining, the capital city. It's a busy place with lots of shops and restaurants. We stayed in a hotel
and the next morning we drove up into the mountains. The roads were windy with tons of hairpin turns. I got a little car sick but it was worth it for the sights!
After a long drive, we arrived at Qinghai Lake. It's the largest lake in China and one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. The water was a stunning shade of blue and there were birds everywhere. We took a cruise around part of the lake on a sightseeing boat. The guide told us it's called the "Emerald on the Roof of the World" which I thought was a very poetic name.
From the boat, we could see wild horses grazing on the shores. They looked so free and happy munching on the green grass. We also spotted some sheep up on the hills in the distance. The scenery was just magical. Snow-capped peaks rose up all around the sparkling turquoise waters. I'll never forget how peaceful and serene it felt.
Next, we travelled to Qinghai Lake Bird Island Nature Reserve. This island in the middle of the lake is home to over 100 different bird species. We took another boat out to the island and went for a little hike. A park ranger showed us nests with little baby birds inside and we saw birds swooping and gliding through the air. It was amazing to watch them up so close.
After the island, our guide took us to some traditional villages inhabited by Tibetan nomads. We got to go inside one of the big yurt tents they live in and meet a nomad family. They showed us how they make thick, warm yak wool tents and clothes. We even got to spin the wool into yarn! I've never seen anything like their unique way of life.
That night, we stayed in a town called Huangzhong. We had the most delicious food - yak meat stew, tsampa porridge, and tangy yogurt drinks. For dessert, we had sweet fried bread rings drizzled with honey. I probably ate way too much but it was all so yummy!
The next day, we drove through more gorgeous mountain scenery until we reached Kalaqin County. This area is famous for its grasslands filled with bright wildflowers. We went hiking and saw hundreds of different blooms - poppies, edelweiss, gentians, and more, all bursting with vibrant colors. We also saw some marmots scurrying around and playing.
Near the grasslands, there are turquoise lakes dotted all over the mountains. Some of them had flamingos wading in the waters! The high altitude makes the sky seem even bluer and more brilliant than normal. Everywhere I looked was just one amazing view after another.
Our last stop was Tsaidam Basin, also known as the Sanjiangyuan region. Here the mountains meet the Gobi Desert. There are incredible sand dunes that rise and fall like ocean waves across the golden landscape. We went sliding down the dunes and ran along the flatter areas where they filmed movies like The Mummy! The desert was hot but there was something peaceful about the vast, empty silence.
We ended our trip by heading back to Xining. I have to admit I was sad to leave Qinghai behind. It's such a remarkable, mystical place. The snow mountains, bright blue lakes, colorful grasslands, and desert dunes all felt like scenes from a dream. I feel so lucky to have experienced the natural wonders there.
If you ever get a chance to visit this magical province, you absolutely have to go! Just be sure to bring really warm clothes. Even in the summertime, it gets quite chilly, especially at night. And don't forget your camera - you'll want to capture as many of the incredible views as possible. I promise the memories will last a lifetime.

A Magical Journey to Qinghai, China
Hi everyone! My name is Emma and I just went on the most amazing trip to Qinghai Province in China. It's on the Tibetan Plateau and has some of the most stunning natural scenery you'll ever see. Let me tell you all about my incredible adventure!
Our journey began in Xining, the capital city. Even though it's a big city, it's surrounded by rugged mountains that make you feel like you're in a totally different world. We visited the Dongguan Mosque which was built over 600 years ago! It has these beautiful archways and towers all decorated in bright colors and patterns. My little brother loved running around pretending he was exploring an ancient palace.
After Xining, we drove up into the mountains to Qinghai Lake, which is one of the biggest lakes in China. The water is this crazy bright blue color, even more blue than the sky! Our tour guide told us it's because of the minerals in the lake. We took a little boat out and I stuck my hand in - the water was freezing cold since the lake is so high up. I saw some black-necked cranes wading along the shore looking for fish. They're an endangered species, so we felt really lucky to spot them.
The next day, we went on a long drive to Qilian Mountains along the ancient Silk Road. Everything was brown and dusty but then we turned a corner and BOOM - there were these enormous snow-capped peaks rising up all around us! We took a cable car partway up one of the mountains and went on a little hike. The air was so thin that just walking made me feel out of breath. At the top, we could look out over bright blue glaciers and ice fields that seemed to go on forever. It felt like we were on top of the world!
After the mountains, we visited some of the Tibetan Buddhist monasteries that Qinghai is famous for. My favorite was Kumbum Monastery near the city of Xining. It's massive, with hundreds of little rooms and temples inside all painted with the most incredible murals. We watched the Buddhist monks doing their morning chants and burning yak butter candles. The smell of the candles and incense drifting through the quiet courtyards was just magical.
Our final stop was Zhaling Lake, a saltwater lake where some of the brightest salt crystals I've ever seen crust along the shoreline. We took our shoes off and went for a walk in the shallow water. The salty crystals felt cool and crunchy beneath
our feet. Far out in the distance were pink salt lakes shimmering in the sun. It looked like a scene from another planet!
Traveling through Qinghai was like going on an adventure through a storybook. One minute you're in a bustling city, the next you're surrounded by towering mountains or walking among ancient monasteries that feel frozen in time. The different landscapes and cultures all blend together into this incredibly special, sacred place. Qinghai has everything - endless fields of wildflowers, brilliant blue lakes, mighty snowy peaks, and warm, welcoming people.
I feel so grateful that I got to experience the magic of Qinghai at such a young age. This trip opened my eyes to the amazing diversity of our world. I hope someday I can go back and lose myself among those vast open spaces again. But for now, I'll just daydream about being back amidst those painted monasteries, lakes, and mountains. Qinghai, you stole a little piece of my heart!

Come Visit Qinghai - A Magical Land of Lakes and Mountains!
Have you ever seen a lake that looks like a gigantic mirror reflecting the sky and mountains? Or a mountain so tall it seems to touch the clouds? Qinghai Province in western China is an amazing place full of natural wonders like these! Let me tell you all about it.
Qinghai is located high up on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, with an average elevation of over 3,000 meters (10,000 feet)! Being so high up means the air is thinner, but also very fresh and clean. The views from up here are simply breathtaking.
One of the most incredible sights is Qinghai Lake, the largest saltwater lake in China. This massive lake shimmers a brilliant blue, its surface like a mirror reflecting the snowy peaks of the surrounding mountains. On a sunny day, the lake seems to stretch on forever into the horizon until the water and sky blend together into one dazzling shade of blue.
Qinghai Lake is home to lots of cool birds like bar-headed geese, black-necked cranes, and brown-headed gulls. The
bar-headed geese are amazing flyers that can cross over the Himalayas at elevations above 8,000 meters! How's that for extreme bird-watching?
Another natural wonder is the Qaidam Basin, a vast desert with shifting sand dunes and fascinating rock formations carved
by wind and sand over millions of years. Parts of it look like an alien planet from a science fiction movie! You can see the brilliant stars filling up the night sky here away from city lights.
Within this desert lies Chaka Salt Lake, a shimmering oasis of salt crystals. The lake is so reflective and still that it creates a perfect mirror image - you can't even tell where the land ends and the sky begins! At certain times of year, the lake is covered in a thin layer of water that makes wild patterns and designs you can see from above. It's almost like nature's art gallery!
While Qinghai has incredible scenery, it also has a fascinating culture going back thousands of years. Over half the people are ethnic Tibetans, Mongols, Tu, Salar and other minority groups. Their traditions, clothing, music, art and lifestyles are truly unique.
In the grasslands, you can see nomadic Tibetan herders tending to huge herds of yaks and sheep just as their ancestors did centuries ago. They live in traditional black tents and have mastered crafts like yak wool tenting and butter sculpture. Butter sculpture is exactly what it sounds like - amazingly detailed sculptures and statues carved out of yak butter! How cool is that?
Tibetan Buddhism is very important here, with monasteries and shrines dotting the landscape. One of the most sacred is the Kumbum Monastery, with its thousands of Buddha statues. Just walking among the temples, stupas, and prayer wheels gives you a feeling of peace and tranquility.
At festivals, you can see incredible displays of horsemanship, wrestling, archery and dance from Tibetan, Mongolian and other cultures. The costumes and masks are works of art! And of course, there are all kinds of fun games and delicious foods to try.
In the provincial capital Xining, you can explore the Muslim Quarter, with its winding alleyways, souvenir stalls, and incredible smells of spicy kebabs and bread baking. It's like stepping back in time to an ancient Silk Road bazaar!
So if you want to experience mind-blowing natural scenery, vibrant cultures, and age-old traditions, Qinghai is the place for you.
