Having good etiquette (礼节) at the workplace is very important to be a favorite in an office. However,it’s observed that many people aren’t aware of the workplace etiquette and this creates a very bad impression in the office. So it’s important to know some workplace etiquette tips.
Among all the workplace etiquette guidelines, the most important is to be punctual to your office.Though going late due to an emergency is okay, habitual late comers are never appreciated in any organization.By arriving at your office on time, you show that you’re aware of your responsibilities and have respect for the organization. In case you feel that you would be late, call the concerned authority and report the matter to him or her.
Also,a proper knowledge of the workplace email etiquette is a must.In the official emails, you need to mention the subject concisely, while at the same time include all the important details which are to be shared. You should use good and grammatically correct language while writing emails.
A knowledge of telephone etiquette in the workplace is very important as well. While talking on the telephone,be polite and listen to what they’re saying carefully.Only then should you say what you feel.Speak in a voice which would be heard clearly at the other end.
The workplace guidelines are important even while you’re dining or celebrating with your coworkers. If you get a call in between, receive it after you’re permitted by the others by saying “excuse me”.Don’t talk loudly wh ile eating.Greet people well and try to make them feel comfortable while being in your company.

Last year, I was on a plane with my friend, waiting for it to take off. The pilot’s voice was heard throughout the plane: “Sorry for the delay, ladies and gentlemen. Our engines don’t work. We are go ing to jump-start them. Once we get them going,
we’ll get up in the air and see what happens.”
That was all he said. “See what happens?” Shouldn’t we have had a better plan than that? At that point. I could only laugh nervously. One woman started crying, “Oh no! We are going to crash!’’ There were sighs of hopelessness and anxiety, and we hadn’t even taken off yet.
The pilot even seemed unhappy. He told us our one engine was working double time, and his plan was to get up in the air and see what happens! Then we did. We got up in the air, and what happened? Nothing. We arrived in Norfolk, and no sooner had the wheels touched down than applause burst out as everyone on the airplane breathed a sigh of relief.
All too often, people stop trying to achieve their goals just because they don’t have a guaranteed (有保证的) result. But success will never be guaranteed. The best thing that you can do is just get up in the air, and see what happens. While I do prefer planning better than “see what happens” when it comes to flying, it really isn’t such a bad idea for life.
If your effort is to build a business then get up in the air and see what happens! Don’t give yourself all the reasons why you can’t. Do not wait until you have everything you need. You never will!
If your goal is to start a friendship, say “Hello”, get up in the air and see what happens! The results could be very rewarding. If your goal is to learn a new skill, get up in the air and see what happens! It might not be as difficult as your think. It could be fun!
33. How did the author feel when the pilot said the engines didn’t work?
A. Disappointed.
B. Anxious.
C. Curious.
D. Relieved.
34. The underlined sentence in the first paragraph means .
A. to think carefully before you make friends
B. to start to fly frist to see what will happen in the sky
C. to make an effort even if the result is uncertain
D. to get up from the chair and greet somebody
35. What can be the best title for the passage?
A. We Will See What Happens
B. I Survived an Adventurous Flight
C. The Pilot Risked Our Lives
D. Making Plans Is Better Than Taking Chances

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C、D)中,选出最佳选项。
Researchers in Hungary have confirmed something many dog owners have long suspected: that canines understand our feelings.
Using a Magnetic Resonance Scanner, or MRI, scientists found that when it comes to emotions, dogs’ brains are similar to those of humans. Dogs are usually not relaxed in a lab environment, but with a little petting and lots of treats they can be trained to sit still even in an MRI scanner. That’s how researchers in Hungary’s ELTE University were able to get images of their brains at work.
Research fellow Attila Andics says it helped them better understand the dogs’ relationship with humans. “We have known for a long time that dogs and humans share similar social environment, but now our results show that dogs and humans also have similar brain mechanisms(大脑机制)to process social information,”said Andics.
After training 11 dogs to stay motionless while their brains were scanned, the researchers checked their neurological(神经系统的)responses to about 200 emotionally significant sounds, from whining and crying to playful barking and laughing. They then compared the responses from human subjects. They found striking similarities.
Andics says it opens new possibilities for research. “It establishes a foundation of a new branch of comparative neuroscience, because until now it was not possible to measure the brain activities of a non-primate(非人灵长类动物)and the primate brain in a single experiment,” said Andics.
And what that tells ordinary dog owners, the Hungarian scientists say, is to treat your canine companions as friends, not mere animals, because they evidently understand human feelings.
25. Which of the following statements is true?
A. Dog’s behaviors are the same as those of humans.
B. Usually dogs can sit still in a lab environment.
C. Dog owners shouldn’t treat dogs as their friends.
D. The emotions of dogs are similar to those of humans.
26. What does the underlined word “canines” mean in the first paragraph?
A. Dogs
B. Animals
C. dog owners
D. researchers
27. How do researchers get the dogs to sit still?
A. By force.
B. By injection.
C. By comforting and treating.
D. By ignoring.

(2012·陕西卷)Three Boys and a Dad
Brad closed the door slowly as Sue left home to visit her mother.Expecting a whole day to relax,he was thinking whether to read the newspaper or watch his favourite TV talk show on his first day off in months.“This will be like a walk in the park,” he'd to ld his wife.“I'll look after the kids, and you can go visit your mom.”Things started well, but just after eight o'clock, his three little “good kids”—Mike,Randy, and Alex—came down the stairs in their night clothes and shouted “breakfast, daddy”. When food had not appeared within thirty seconds,Randy began using his spoon on Alex's head as if it were a drum.Alex started to shout loudly in time to the beat (节拍).Mike chanted “Where's my toast, where's my toast” in the background.Brad realised his newspaper would have to wait for a few seconds.
Life became worse after breakfast.Mike wore Randy's underwear on his head.Randy locked himself in the bathroom, while Alex shouted again because he was going to wet his pants.Nobody could find clean socks, although they were before their very eyes.Someone named “Not Me” had spilled a whole glass of orange juice into the basket of clean clothes.Brad knew the talk show had already started.
By ten o'clock, things were out of control.Alex was wondering why the fish in the jar refused his bread and butter.Mike was trying to show off his talent by decorating the kitchen wall with his colour pencils.Randy, thankfully, appeared to be reading quietly in the family room, but closer examination showed that he was eating apple jam straight from the bottle with his hands.Brad realised that the talk show was over and reading would be impossible.
At exactly 11∶17,Brad called the daycare centre (日托所).“I suddenly have to go into work and my wife's away. Can I bring the boys over in a few minutes?” The answer was obviously “yes” because Brad was smiling.
