A young female athlete in the Philippines recently won many gold medals during a sports meet despite not having proper running shoes. Rhea Ballos, an 11-year-old student of Salvation Elementary School in Balason, Iloilo, was only wearing bandages around her feet when she competed at the Iloilo Schools Sports Meet.
Facebook user Valenzuela posted pictures of the girl with her feet wrapped in bandages bearing the famous Nike logo. Ballos even wrote the word “NIKE” on the sides of her “shoe” to complete the “Nike running shoes” look. The bandages were tightly wrapped around her feet, creating a thin protective layer against the track. While she was actually barefoot during the races, she was still able to defeat her competitors who all more proper footwear intended for running,
According to the post, Ballos bagged the top awards in the 400-meter dash, the 800-meter run, and the 1500-meter run in the girls' categories in the inter school sporting event held in Iloilo, central Philippines.
When pictures of her “Nike” footwear become popular, Flipinos on social media praised her. Many noted that instead of falling into self-pity, she was even able to make light of the situation by drawing the Nike logo on her “running shoes”. Some of the commenters of Valenzuela's post expressed how the girl deserved to be recognized by Nike and that the brand should actually give her a new pair of real Nike shoes. Others started getting in touch with the American sports brand, as well as local basketball specialty store Titan 22.
It did not take long for Titan co-founder and Alaska Aces head coach Jeffrey Cariaso to
take notice of Ballos' outstanding achievement. Cariaso immediately made an effort to get in touch with the young track runner. The seven-time PBA champion has since talked to the student as well as her coaches in an apparent bid to help her out.

With summer drawing to a dose, parents are helpless.
Camp’s over. The kids’ friends have left for warmer places. A trip to the pool doesn't
bring the same excitement as it did in June. And so many families have no choice but to go for a trip to the amusement park.
Whether you’re thinking of Six Flags, Sesame Place, Hersheypark or Dutch Wonderland, don't do it—you’ll be sorry. Amusement parks—especially water parks—have never been more popular. More than 26 million people went to Six Flags last year. These parks bring out the worst in kids and parents alike. What starts out as a special treat ends up in disappointment and tears.
As soon as you get to the park, you pay a couple of hundred dollars for a family of four. Already, expectations are unrealistic as parents start to do the math. How many rides will I get for the money? The answer—at least in August—is four.
That’s because of the lines. Time stops as you stand in line leading to even the least exciting ride. Over and over we count the number of people in front of us, wondering how many more rounds there’ll be before our turn. Then there are the other parents—some of whom seem to think the lines are part of the game.
At Dutch Wonderland last weekend, one father walked up to my kids and asked if they were in line. For five minutes, he had his daughter stand behind them. When I turned my head, he had her stand ahead of them. Then he did it to the kids next in line, too.
By the end of the day, you see mothers and fathers buy their kids ice cream again and again to ease the influences of the heat, disappointment and anger.
It’s like they’ve forgotten—it was all the kids’ idea in the first place.
12.Why are parents helpless?
A.Their kids are having little fun.B.They are not good at planning trips. C.Their kids depend on them too much.D.They are too busy to play with their kids. 13.What does the author think of the money spent by parents?
A.It is not worth it.B.It is good for the family.
C.It wouldn't be so much in August.D.It is a waste for those poor at math. 14.Why did the father ask the author's kids whether they were in line?
A.He was a polite person.B.He couldn’t find the line.
C.He wanted his kid to cut in line.D.He wanted to teach them a lesson. 15.What would be the best title for the text?
A.Behave well, little kids!B.Mind your manners, parents! C.Make your choices carefully D.Keep away from amusement parks

47.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一个完整的短文。

It was 1995, when people used fixed-line telephones instead of mobile phones for communication and people asked ways instead of depending on navigation systems to get around. I was in China for the first time. I was to meet a friend, Bruce, who had come to China a few months before to work in Jingzhou. I had never heard of the place, so I guessed it must be small. Before I left for China, Bruce had told me his address over the phone. Now, I was confident that I could find the place with the address written on a piece of paper in my pocket.
It was not until I arrived at the airport in Wuhan and went to get the bus for the “small town” that I realized the address note I wrote in English was useless. At the information desk of the bus service outside the airport, I spent as long as 5 minutes trying every possible American pronunciation of the word “Jingzhou” with him repeating every single word with a confused inflection (音调变化). Finally, his eyes widened and it clicked. He turned to me and said something I didn't understand. I was not sure what he said, but he said it with confidence.
He ran outside gesturing for me to follow and put me on a bus. He did everything for me.
I handed him some money and he took the proper amount and gave me the change. Then he told the bus driver where I was going. When the bus took off, I assumed we were heading to Jingzhu... but how could I know?
I was informed via hand signals that I had now arrived at my desired city and now I just had to simply get to my friend's place. So I walked off to a stand of taxis and one driver greeted me ready to go. But when I handed him the address, it was apparent that he didn't know where it was. After some discussion with other taxi drivers, he turned to put me in his taxi as if he had found a way out.
