2019_2020学年高中英语Unit3TraveljournalSectionⅠWarmingUp
Section Ⅰ Warming Up & Reading—ComprehendingⅠ阅读理解AI traveled to London, England in the spring of 2016.Actually, I traveled with CAPA International Education on astudy program. At that time, I did a full three-month programbut I traveled on weekends and during breaks.I used to live in a small town outside New York. The idea of big cities has always excited me and I wanted to take advantage of that once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It was a great opportunity for me to see how independent I could be in another country, because I hope to travel a lot more in the future.I lived in a flat in Ealing Broadway with several other students from different American schools. The biggest surprise I found there was the culture shock I experienced. I had expected traveling to London to be an easy transition(转变) for me because I thought their culture was close to that of America. But you know the language and the people were greatly different from what I had expected. They had different accents. In fact, they were noisy and more free-thinking than most Americans I knew. However, I tried to take part in their giant Chinese New Year celebration in Trafalgar Square. I went to several Jewish society holiday celebrations and actively participated in any cultural activities I knew at that time. It was great to be able to truly put myself in their culture. These are experiences I couldn’t get anywhere else.I would suggest people hoping to follow in my footsteps not let anything hold them back from exploring the foreign cultures presented to them. Yes, you are there for school, but your number one priority(优先) is yourself. So make sure you go home with no regrets. Do not miss anything!【解题导语】本文是一篇记叙文,讲述了作者在去英国参加学习项目期间,利用周末和假期旅游,努力融入当地文化,并且感受到了将学习与探索外国文化融为一体的重要意义。

课时跟踪练(一)Section Ⅰ Warming Up & Reading —Prereading Ⅰ.阅读理解AIf you are planning on traveling, there are a few simple rules about how to make life easier both before and after your journey.First of all, always check and doublecheck departure (出发) time. It is surprising how few people really do thiscarefully. Once I arrived at the airport a few minutes afterten. My secretary had got the ticket for me and I thought shehad said that the plane left at 10:50. When I arrived at the airport, the person at the departure desk told me that my flight was closed. Therefore, I had to wait three hours for the next one and missed an important meeting. The second rule is to remember that even in this age of credit cards (信用卡), it is still important to have some local money in cash (现金). Once I arrived at a place at midnight and the bank at the airport was closed. The only way to get to my hotel was by taxi but because I had no dollars, I offered to pay in pounds instead.“Listen! I only take real money!” the driver sa id angrily. You can imagine how terrible I felt at that moment. The third and the last rule is to find out as much as you can about the weather at your destination before you leave. I feel sorry for some of my workmates who travel in heavy suits and raincoats in May, when it is still fairly cool in London or Manchester, to places like Athens, Rome or Madrid, where it is already beginning to get quite warm during the day.语篇解读:本文为说明文,主要介绍了如何做好旅行的准备工作。

nation.“I can’t think of a single s tudy that hasn’t found Americans getting less sleep than they ought to,” says Dr David.Even people who think they are sleeping enough would probably be better off with more rest. The beginning of our sleepdeficit crisis can be traced back to the invention of the light bulb a century ago. From diary entries and our personal accounts from the 18th and 19th centuries, sleep scientists have reached the conclusion that the average person used to sleep about 9.5 hours a night.“The best sleep habits once were forced on us,when we had nothing to do in the evening down on the farm, and it was dark.” By the 1950s and 1960s,the sleep schedule had been reduced dramatically,to between 7.5 and 8 hours, and most people had to wake to an alarm clock.“People cheat in their sleep, and they don’t even realize they’re doing it,” says Dr David.“They think they’re okay because they can get by on 6.5 hours, when they really need 7.5,8 or even more to feel ideally energetic.”Perhaps the most merciless robber of sleep, researches say,is the plexity of the day.Whenever pressures from work, family, friends and munity increase, many people consider sleep the least expensive item on their programme.“In our society, you’re considered dynamic if you say you need only 5.5 hours’ sleep. If you’ve got t o get 8.5 hours, people think you lack drive and ambition.”To determine the consequences of sleepdeficit, researchers have put subjects through a set of psychological and performance tests requiring them, for instance,to add columns of numbers or recall a passage read to them only minutes earlier.“We’ve found that if you’re in sleepdeficit, performance suffers,” says Dr David.“Shortterm memory is weakened,as are abilities to make decisions and to concentrate.”1.What is the main topic of the passage?A.Rese arch on the causes and consequences of sleepdeficit.B.The epidemic of sleepiness in the modern times.C.The history of people’s sleeping patterns.D.The minimum of our sleeping hours.2.Which of the following is Dr David’s opinion?A.People who think the y are sleeping enough are better off than those who don’t.B.Some people can remain I would return from school and spend the expected half hour recording the day's events, feelings, and impressions in my little blue diary.I did not really need to express my emotions by way of words, but I gained a certain satisfaction from seeing my experiences forever recorded on paper. After all, isn't accumulating memories a way of preserving the past? When I was thirteen years old, I went on a long journey on foot in a great valley, well-equipped with pens, a diary, and a camera. During the trip, I was busy recording every incident, name and place I came across.I felt proud to be spending my time productively, dutifully preserving for future generations a detailed description of my travels. On my last night there, I wandered out of my tent, diary in hand. The sky was clear and lit by the glare of the moon, and the walls of the valley looked threatening behind their screen of shadows. I automatically took out my pen...At that point, I understood that nothing I wrote could ever match or replace the few seconds I allowed myself to experience the dramatic beauty of the valley. All I remembered of the previous few days were the dull characterizations I had set down in my diary. Now, I only write in my diary when I need to write down a special thought or feeling. I still love to record ideas and quotations that strike me in books, or observations that are particularly meaningful. I take pictures, but not very often—only of objects I find really beautiful. I'm no longer blindly satisfied with having something to remember when I grow old. I realize that life will simply pass me by if I stay behind the camera, busy preserving the present so as to live it in the future.I don't want to wake up one day and have nothing but a pile of pictures and notes. Maybe I won't have as many exact representations of people and places; maybe I'll forget certain facts, but at least the experiences will always remain inside me. I don't live to make memories—I just live, and the memories form themselves.1.Before the age of thirteen, the author regarded keeping a diary as a way of ________.A.observing her school routineB.expressing her satisfactionC.impressing her classmatesD.preserving her history2.What caused a change in the author's understanding of keeping a diary?A.A dull night on the journey.B.The beauty of the great valley.C.A striking quotation from a book.D.Her concerns for future generations.3.What does the author put in her diary now?A.Notes and beautiful pictures.B.Special thoughts and feelings.C.Detailed accounts of daily activities.D.Descriptions of unforgettable events.4.The author comes to realize that to live a meaningful life is ________.A.to experience itB.to live the present in the futureC.to make memoriesD.to give accurate representations of it18、假定英语课上老师要求同桌之间交换修改作文,请你修改你同桌写的以下作文。

CI'm a travel addict (旅游迷). I think it is very exciting to go to new places, experience different situations and see unfamiliar things. Here's what I have come up with about why travel is so fascinating. To start with, whether we know it or not, every day is filled with anxiety about things that we don't need to worry about in the first place. Going to new places is a chance to escape from our everyday worries. For example, after a whole day at work, I am often physically and mentally exhausted and start to worry about things. However, the moment I get on the train or bus to my next destination (目的地) I forget all my tiredness and worries.Next is one of the most basic concepts in travel: movement. I always take along books to read on my train trips, but in the end, only about five pages or so everget read, because I just stare out of the window at the things whooshing by. Just the ability to move is exhilarating (令人高兴的). Movement also means that we are going to new places and seeing new things. But why is that important? Because experiencing new situations, people and ideas could help us to learn about new things and grow, especially when we don't have the burden of everyday worries. I have never gone on a trip and come back as the same person; I have always changed and grown through travel. So take every type of trip you can, at every chance you get, and you will not only experience more of the world, but will become a happier person with a richer set of experiences.语篇解读:旅行到底有什么迷人之处呢?本篇文章的作者就以自己的亲身经历为我们揭晓答案。
