Model test five

She was found reading in the library. We found her reading in the library.
1) 陈述部分的主语是I,疑问部分要用 aren't I. I'm as tall as your sister, aren't I? 2) 陈述部分的谓语是wish,疑问部分要用may +主语。 I wish to have a word with you, may I? 3) 陈述部分用 no, nothing, nobody, never, few, seldom, hardly, rarely, little等否 定含义的词时,疑问部分用肯定含义。 The Swede made no answer, did he / she? Some plants never blown (开花), do they ? 4) 含有ought to 的反意疑问句,陈述部分是肯定的,疑问部分用shouldn't / oughtn't +主语。 He ought to know what to do, oughtn't he? / shouldn't he?

Working out in a New WayThe most popular PE class at Waukegan High School in Illinois, US, takes place in the stadium. It is the school's version of CrossFit, the difficult workout that has exploded in popularity over the last 16 years at thousands of gyms. It has more than one million devotees and a professional competition shown on ESPN.Schools around the Chicago area have adopted CrossFit to interest students at a time of a rising weight problem among young people, and most say it really works compared with traditional gym classes.“I think it's a great way to teach kids lifelong fitness, especially those kids who aren't interested in hockey, soccer or basketball,”said teacher Tracy Haraf of Illinois' Stony Creek Elementary.“They think it's tough, but they mentioned their performance has improved.”But some doctors and researchers advise caution, saying workouts that involve lifting weights can lead to injuries, particularly when performed by inexperienced people. Doctor Craig Finlayson at Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago said he was worried that while strength training has a positive effect on kids, heavy weights could be trouble for teenagers who might hurt themselves by trying to do too much or using poor form.CrossFit Inc., the company that certifies (发证书) trainers and licenses gyms, disagrees that its program is more dangerous compared with other fitness routines, like jogging. The company even sued (控告) over a research article that found 16 percent of a CrossFit group had stopped participating because of overuse or injury, saying the statistic presenting CrossFit as unsafe was not scientific.Gym teachers like Waukegan's Greg Moisio, also say the risk of injury can be reduced with proper teaching and CrossFit's flexibility. Moisio referred to a workout called “Death by Burpees”,where every one minute and 20 seconds, students run a lap and perform an increasing number of burpees—a movement involving a squat (蹲下), a push-up and a jump with hands held above the head. The challenge is to keep going as long as you can.“That's the great thing, because something like running the mile, the worst kid is always last,”Moisio said.“Everybody knows who's last; the sense of failure will make them lose heart. That's a terrible feeling for a kid. Now, no one knows who dropped out in round three because they're too worried about trying to get their own butt around the track.”1.重点词汇再现(1)work out锻炼(2)stadium n. 慢跑(12)push-up n. (1)It is the school's version of CrossFit, the difficult workout that has exploded in popularity over the last 16 years at thousands of gyms.

Unit5 阅读技能突破-真题展示[浙江2021年6月·B篇]We live in a town with three beaches. There are two parks less than 10 minutes’ walk from home where neighbourhood children gather toplay. However, what my children want to do after school is pick up a screen—any screen—and stare at it for hours. They are not alone. Today’s children spend an average of four and a half hours a day looking at screens, split between watching television and using the Internet. In the past few years, an increasing number of people and organisations have begun coming up with plans to counter this trend. A couple of years ago, film-maker David Bond realised that his children, then aged five and three, were attached to screens to the point where he was able to say “chocolate” into his three-year-old son’s car without getting a response. He realised that something needed to change, and, being a London media type, appointed himself “marketing director for Nature”. He documented his journey as he set about treating nature as a brand to be marketed to young people. The result was Project Wild Thing, a film which charts the birth of the Wild Network, a group of organisations with the common goal of getting children out into nature.“Just five more minutes outdoors can make a difference,” David Bond says. “There is a lot of really interesting evidence which seems to be suggesting that if children are inspired up to the age of seven, then being outdoors will be a habit for life.” His own children have got into the habit of playing outside now: “We just send them out into the garden and tell them not to come back in for a while.”Summer is upon us. There is an amazing world out there, and it needs our children as much as they need it. Let us get them out and let them play.1. What is the problem with the author’s children?A.

'' Indeed, Mother Nature can provide almost everything human beings need if we follow her rules. But if we break the rules, she is likely to be cruel andlash out at us.The outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia (新型冠状病毒肺炎, NCP) in China and some other countries at the beginning of this year is an example. According to Xinhua News Agency, the new coronavirus is similar to a virus found in a bat in 2017 and probably has an intermediate host It's believed that the virus originated from the Huanan Seafood Market in Wuhan, Hubei province, where live wild animals were sold. The Wall Street Journal reported that Dr Peter Daszak, president of the US-based health organization EcoHealth Alliance, said, ''This outbreak is a lesson for us. On a global scale, human population density, wildlife diversity, and land use change are what drive new pandemics (流行病). ''In ancient times, people needed to rely on nature to survive so they held it in awe (敬畏). For example, the American Indians believed that humans are a part of nature and nature is a part of humans. Chinese ancients always pursued the harmony between nature and human beings. However, as human beings master more knowledge and make more advanced tools, people try to change and even conquer nature. They use more land to make buildings, genetically modify (改变) plants, capture some wild and rare animals to suit their own needs. In this process, humans gradually lose contact with nature and even throw it out of balance. For example, cutting a large number of forests means carbon dioxide must build up in the atmosphere and it contributes to global warming.Although we don't know for sure what first caused the NCP outbreak, Brian Lamacraft at Medium said it'stime for people to ''reflect on our relationship with our planet'' and ''reconnect with this world and everything that we've been given''. After all, according to US poet Gary Snyder, ''Nature is not the place to visit. It's our home. ''4. What does the phrase ''lash out at'' in Paragraph 1 probably mean?A. punishB. controlC. testD. challenge5. What lesson did Daszak think human beings should learn from the NCP outbreak?A. Bats are one of the most dangerous wild animals.B. It's impossible to prevent new pandemics globally.C. We should stop the wildlife trade around the world.D. Humans should live peacefully with nature.6. What is the main idea of Paragraph 5?A. How human beings become their own masters.B. How human activities cause global warming.C. How human beings break the balance of nature.D. How humans use technology to improve their lives.7. What is the author's purpose in writing this article?A. To reflect on the NCP outbreak.B. To explain what led to the NCP outbreak.C. To describe experts' predictions on new pandemics.D. To compare ancient and modern attitudes toward nature.CDisease-carrying mosquitoes can spread diseases without affecting themselves. Nearly 700 million people get a mosquito-borne illness each year, which results in over one million deaths. Humans experience continuous pressures from disease-carrying mosquitoes in many parts of the world, so we have to find ways to fight against those insects because they keep getting scarier.Even though DEET remains the most commonly used, and most powerful, mosquito repellent ever developed, scientists are actively pursuing effective products based entirely on plant oils. While DEET is an effective contact repellent, many people dislike the oily feel and smell on their skin, and sometimes some people are sensitive to it. Consumers are always interested in alternatives to DEET and other synthetic repellents, so there are numerousnatural repellents on the market. In his lab atIowaStateUniversity, Dr. Joel Coats and his team have successfully tested these repellents against three species of dangerous mosquitoes. The first group of the new repellents act through the air. These chemicals have a vapor action that provides protection, and they are called “spatial” repellents, since they act through space. These are potentially most useful in backyards, parks, and houses. The other group are the classic ones that stop insects from standing on a treated surface, such as human skin, clothing or tents; collaborators at the USDA-ARS and BioGents have conducted testing with humans to confirm the effectiveness and identify the very best ones. The new repellents were designed and made from the natural materials in plant essential oils. They maintain many of the advantages of the natural repellents: They are fully biodegradable, with no ecological concerns or environmental wastes, and generally considered safe like the thousands of types of plant essential oils used in the flavor and perfume industries. However, thorough testing will be conducted to determine if they are truly non-poisonous because there is still no enough evidence.8. What does the author mainly want to show in paragraph 1?A. The way mosquitoes spread disease.B. The high death rate of mosquito-borne illness.C. The difficulty of fighting disease-carrying mosquitoes.D. The urgency of finding tools to fight against mosquitoes.9. What is a disadvantage of DEET?A. It won’t be effective for long.B. It can’t be applied universally.C. It causes discomfort to the users.D. It greatly harms people’s health.10. What can we learn about the second group of the new repellents?A. They can kill mosquitoes indirectly.B. They are mainly used in the open air.C. They are more effective on human skin.D. They can prevent mosquitoes from contacting users.11. What’s the author’s attitude to the new repellents?A. Subjective.B. Objective.C. Doubtful.D. Disapproving.DA Singaporean company will feed airport food waste to mealworms before turning them into fish feed, aimingto cut the country's use of imported feed and offer a continuous alternative.Blue Aqua Internationalwill partner with Dnata, an air and travel services provider, to change organic waste at Singapore's Changi Airport into insect protein for aquacultural use, according to a statement Tuesday. The project looks to replace traditional fish and soybean meal as the main sources of protein for aquafeed. The insects will eat the food waste and change it into part of the body containing about 60 per cent protein. The dried baby worms will then be made into feed. These mealworms can be a continuous solution to several problems. Using a small land and giving out less carbon, they turn food waste into feed and offer an alternative source of protein. Ynsect SAS, a small French business that keeps mealworms to feed fish and pets, attracted money from investors includingIron Manmovie actor Robert Downey Jr. in a round of fund-raising last year. The deal will give Singapore's farmers access to domestically produced animal feed, which is traditionally bought from abroad. The Southeast Asian nation imports more than 90 percent of its food and has set a goal to produce a third of its food locally by 2030. It also aims to achieve a general recycling rate of 70 per cent by then. Presently, less than 20 per cent of Singapore's food waste is recycled. As part of the partnership, Dubai-based Dnata will add Blue Aqua to its list of suppliers to buy locally farmed seafood for its catering service.12. What is the function of mealworms?A. To cut the use of imported fish feed.B. To eat food waste and make fish feed.C. To domestically produce animal feed.D. To replace traditional fish and soybean meal.13. What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about?A. The producers of the feed.B. The purpose of the projectC. The advantages of the project.D. The composition of the feed.14. What can we infer about Singapore from Paragraph 5?A. It is a rich country.B. It is short of self-produced food.C. Its recycling rate is very high now.D. Its farmers don't support the deal.15. What is the text mainly about?A. A new way to produce fish feed.B.An introduction to a company.C. A plan to reduce food waste.D. A deal to protect farmers.

AThe people of Reykjavik are used to lying down for the winter, when each day brings with it only a few hours ofsunl ight. February coming, they’re more than ready to wake upfrom hibernation(冬眠)and welcome the first signs of spring. The local authorities decided this was a good time of a year totry to raise people’s spirits, and in 2002 they set up the Winter Lights Festival. Starting out as Museum Night, when museums waived their fees and stayed open until midnight, the festival has grown to an event that marks the coming return of daylight. For a few days, the city comes alive with bright lights, street performances, theater, dances, and live music. Shops, cafés, outdoor hot pools and the museums stay open until 12:00 p. m. and they’re all free of charge, with free bus services provided. Here are another two things about Reykjavik that will help you celebratethe coming end of winter. The Blue Lagoon is Iceland’s most famous tourist attraction.
