If the number “one” is magic,it certainly worked on Wang Huichen, a 17-year-old middle school student from Shanghai.
Two years ago, when Wang took part in the final of the junior high school category (组别) of The 21st Century New Oriental Cup National High school and Primary School English Speaking Competition, he was the first one to speak that day. This year, when he came back as a senior(高级的)high school student, he drew number one again and gave the first speech in the semi-final(半决赛). And the magic continued: Wang won No.1.
But of course, magic was n’t the reason for Wang’s success. His ability lies in his reading habits. He reads plenty of books. For example, the topic for the semi-final was One Thing You Need to Know about China.Wang talked about traditional Chinese medicine. Instead of just talking about things like cupping (拔火罐)and acupuncture (针灸), he also explained the balance behind it.
Actually, Wang is a “s l ow reader”. Once h e spent eight months on one book. “But I’m a careful reader,” he added, “I look tip .everything that’s new to me.” And he keeps this habit even when it comes to English-language TV shows. He stops shows to look up the words and phrases he doesn’t know. While some may think doing so kills the fun of TV, Wang says: “It’s meaningless if you watch TV and don’t learn anything.” Even when using a dictionary,Wang doesn’t just look up a word. He always tries to find out how many different meanings the word has and how it fits in different sentences. “As a language learner, there’s no way you can get around dictionaries,”he said, “Knowing how to make full use of them is the key.”
46. When did Wang take part in the competition as a senior school student?
A. In 2018.
B. In 2017.
C. In 2016.
47. What is the secret to Wang’s success?
A. Magic.
B. His reading habits.
C. His life habits.
48. Which of the following is true about Wang Huichen?
A. He drew No. 1 only once in the competitions.
B. He reads a number of books.
C. He always reads carefully and quickly.
49. What did Wang talk about in the semi-final?
A. He just talked about cupping and acupuncture.
B. He told the balance behind western medicine.
C. He explained traditional Chinese medicine.
50. What can we learn from the passage?
A. He who laughs last laughs best.
B. Chances favor the prepared mind.
C. Well begun is half done.

第四节阅读表达阅读下面的短文,然后根据短文内容回答问题。

(共5小题,计10分) Are you familiar with traditional Chinese characters(汉字)? Do you often use them?
China is one of the oldest countries in the world. During the 5,000 years of its history, China developed a lot. So did the Chinese language.
In the 1930s, Chinese government started to turn complicated Cheese characters (繁体字)into more simplified ones. Since 1949, simplified Chinese (简体字)has been widely used in China.
Nowadays, most people in China can only read and write simplified Chinese. The traditional Chinese characters only live in ancient books and some works of calligraphy(书法). During the Two Sessions (两会), the old-style language has been noticed by people again.
Feng Xiaogang, a famous film director, insisted that traditional Chinese shows the Chinese language as a kind of ideograph(表意文字)more clearly, while the shapes of simplified Chinese have missed some meanings. Feng suggested that schools should teach traditional Chinese.
People have different opinions on this idea. A few of researchers think it is a good idea. They have even given an example. The traditional Chinese for the word “love” has a heart in it, but in the simplified Chinese character, the heart is gone. How can a person love without his heart? So, those researchers prefer traditional Chinese. Though it is a good reason, most people are against the proposal(提案). They think people are used to simplified Chinese. They also believe learning traditional characters is difficult.
Both sides have good reasons. What is your opinion then?
60. Has Chinese language changed a lot?
